  1. Just won a case of these at a shotgun match and not a moment too soon! My slug stash had dwindled and I was not looking forward to buying more. I’m pretty pumped about trying these to see how they perform in my 19” Vepr 3 MOA 12 and razor red dot. anyone else have more experience with these and how they do with various chokes?
  2. Lucas Oil brand Unicorn Semen! But seriously its just some good old fashioned elbow grease and Russian Black Magic. In a short time Michael Whitesides has taken this platform farther than it has ever gone before. I'm fortunate to work by his side. For the past 5 years I have put in many many many hours into understanding the AK shotguns because I saw their potential as soon as I bought my first one. Michael's vision and our partnership with Briley Manufacturing is pretty special and I'm proud to be a part of it. -V
  3. Just bought a copy of it waiting on it to come in. Pretty excited to read it a lot of people talk about it. I wish it came in a downloadable audiobook that I could listen to in my car/at work. Anyone been able to find that? -V
  4. 80 yards with the ole Red dot M&P. Apex flat trigger. love that thing.
  5. Hey just thought I’d finally introduce myself formally. Ive been on this gun kick for about 5 years now. Quickly went from collector/buyer/wannabe hunter to cashing all m my chips in and competing in open division multigun. some of you may know me as “the Vepr 12 guy” from YouTube Vepr12AllDay. That’s my main passion is the open division AK shotgun. Im pursuing USPSA with about equal effort currently just running my glorified carry Optics m&p with red dot no comp just a slide ride red dot. Moved down here to Texas from Ohio just recently and started working for Dissident Arms. Having a blast shooting as many matches as a can and trying to make the most of this crazy ride im on! I love forums and discussion and I’m finally starting to scratch the surface on the wealth of info found here. thanks for having me! -V
  6. I do about 15 million walk throughs on every stage. This really helps me. I view shooting as an individual performance like public speaking. No-one wants to stumble or stutter over their words. Everyone wants to impress the crowd and look their best. Its just human nature. So I look at the walk through as learning my script on the spot and practicing it as many times as I possibly can to figure out what movement I can eliminate, what might look/feel more smooth, etc. I'm not a "great" shooter by any stretch but I usually come in anywhere from 5th to 10th at any given match multigun or pistol. I usually focus on shooting a clean match without few penalties even if my times aren't blazing, and that relaxes me as well, along with the fact that I'm doing something I really enjoy. -V
  7. indoor match I went too had duct tape on some stages and then a metal start box duct taped down on 2 of the 4 sides. It was angle iron with the "legs" of the angle touching the ground, if you follow me.
  8. Let me know if you have any questions about the Vepr 12. Dissident Arms does the finest conversions in the business and is always innovating to drive the platform forward. These things are built like tanks on light machine gun AK receivers, the durability and speed is unmatched. I can get you the best possible pricing and discuss options for your build! -V
  9. The external threads on most AK shotgun platforms Including the Vepr 12 is M22x.75 Dissident Arms has partnered with Briley Manufacturing to internally thread the AK shotgun barrels for briley thin wall chokes. A long choke wrench is used to change the chokes without having to remove the compensator. I am not sure how extensive the work would be but I do believe it's possible. And if anyone can make it happen it's us and Briley. Contact me at Vadim@dissidentArms if you are interested. -V
  10. Key points - The muzzle devices I chose, which are true brakes, and not just flash hiders/tactical Timmy door breaches are all EXTREMELY effective. Eliminate more recoil and rise than Anything I've seen used on ANY other shotgun, including other mag Feds. Even with budget value brick federal target ammo. All 7 I chose shine in their own way, and the data tables I made at the end of the video leave it to the end user as to which brake best fit their needs. It's worth every bit of 28 minutes to watch it and I won't be offended if you watch it while you're on the crapper. Currently, on my gun, I'm using the Dissident Phoenix. -V
  11. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qufs6-IngdE I've been working on this bad boy for months. The footage was filmed in an afternoon. The editing.....was pretty painstaking. 7 brakes reviewed, with a stock vepr 12 rigged in a sled, with 2 different kinds of ammo, and every shot slo-mo'd and annotated. Authentic Molot Illyn GK 01, 02, and Custom Guns GK 03 Dissident Arms Phoenix Sutaev Bad Boy Gunz V6 Carolina Shooters Supply American GK-01 clone and of course the baseline was set by testing the gun first with a naked muzzle. Enjoy! -V
  12. Left handers are actually ahead of the game! An AK has a Right sided charging handle, but for speed most righty's get a Left side handle mod so that you can grip the gun, load a mag with the off hand, and rack the handle on the left as well, without a reach under AK method, or breaking your grip. If shooting with your left hand, the handle is already there for you on the right, just add whatever charging handle extension you want. Dissident also has factory ambi safety selectors (might take some practice or modding, but very doable), and ambi mag releases. If you can tolerate shells flying in front of your face you're in good shape. -V
  13. Pretty sure we were talking on Facebook and it looks like you went with the ALG UL, a fine choice! CMC was kind enough to send me a couple of their AK-Elite flat faced units to test, including modding one for the Vepr 12. The short answer is, it requires a very advanced level of modification to fit in a Vepr 12. It is a superior trigger, and produces a 1lb 14 oz crisp break, very short reset, very little uptake, and just a slight hint of overtravel. CMC also supplies my AR triggers, and having tried both the flat and curved, I like the flat quite a bit more. It feels more responsive and 1911 ish. When it comes down to those 70 yard slug shots with the Vepr, I think this is where that CMC will really shine. I've handed the project off to another interested party, and in the meantime, the Vepr 12 Modified ALG AKT-EL and AKT-UL are very much available from 4range.com -V
  14. I just never installed a bolt catch to begin with lol
  15. I made a Vepr 12 28 round big stick magazine. It works flawlessly, and they will soon be available from Dissident Arms. Here is the video, tested on 112 rounds of 3 dram federal value pack ammunition, using FACTORY recoil springs and guide rod.https://youtu.be/KI3FnUjLi-wEnjoy! -V
  16. Another vote for Dissident Arms. They are the name when it comes to competition worthy Vepr 12s. The are awesome guys to deal with and are doing some big things in the shooting sports world!!
  17. Dissident Arms is indeed a good choice. There used to be a company that sold the mag coupler so that you could make it yourself by hacking and stacking mags, but they disappeared. And dissident sells the 15 and 20 rounders for what you would have paid in parts to make them yourself. I've heard mixed reviews about the +3 taccoms. DA will be releasing their own +3 pads soon. As for the drums, they are a really good product. They run exceptionally well. I made an in depth review video for my youtube channel. It gobbled everything I threw at it 100% besides winchester bulk pack(notoriously horrible). But in matches I am running AA winchester 1350fps so it is good to go. However it is not droppable like the old saiga drums. It says specifically in the instructions not to drop it. People I know are working on a solution for this . So for stages with 25 rounds or less it is a great mag to start and finish with. For other stages you are still better off using the big stick 20 rounders and reloading into 12s or 15s. A good friend of mine who runs the Vepr 12 and is really starting to light up Open division swears by that drum and uses it in matches frequently.
  18. Also I have tried the mag cinch couplers and they do work pretty damn well. Very sturdy. And they can sure take some abuse. I keep a couple of OEM 10 rounders on hand as they are just so buttery smooth on the reloads, although I will eventually make the switch to tuned up SGM's. I haven't tried coupled mags for mixing slugs and shot quite yet. I tend to just live on the edge and use the Matt Loganbill strategy - load my big stick with mixed ammo in the order I need to shoot It sucks if you miss. But it is sweet if you don't. The coupled mags might be good if you happen to start in a car or some confined space/etc.
  19. I really need to check this forum more often lol. I made the 20 round big stick Vepr 12 video when HigherCapacity was still in business(The makers of the coupler). They seem to have fallen off the face of the earth. Website vanished. If you need a ready to go big stick RIGHT NOW, you can get one from Dissident Arms : http://dissidentarms.com/index.php/store/ I will be beta testing some couplers very soon for a good friend of mine That will be good for people that already have SGM laying around. All you need is the coupler and an R&R 20 round spring, and then you can just follow the instructions in my video:
