G-ManBart
I thought the whole idea behind XM and Sirrus was that you could listen to what you wanted, all the time, without commercials? Now they've added commercials and tout that you can go to their website for more information on the products that are advertised. Uh, didn't we all pay to NOT listen to commercials? Vlad
You're not kidding. And wait till they merge with Sirius and there is no competition. Also, oddly, they have commercials on some channels but not others?

That odd - i've had an XM radio for years and don't recall any commercials since they made the no ads switch. And compared to the crap on broadcast FM in the Houston area, XM is a bargin. G-ManBart
That odd - i've had an XM radio for years and don't recall any commercials since they made the no ads switch. And compared to the crap on broadcast FM in the Houston area, XM is a bargin. I'm starting to think that it depends on the channel. Now that I think about it, I hear them on some and not others. I'm not getting rid of it, by any means, as we've got about 3 stations here and all they play is 80s big hair bands all the time. When was the last time you heard Ronnie James Dio on a rock station four times in one day??? It happens here! That plus some long days/nights stuck in a car doing surveillance and XM is a life saver....the commercials are still annoying.
3GunF1Guy
Only on some channels like 21, 22, and 24 which are owned by Clear Channel Communications (I think) and they pay to have their channels carried on XM. I almost can not stand to listen to over the air channels any more. The amount of commercials is overwhelming. In my BMW I can scroll through the channels on the air and all 6 presets will have commercials about 25% of the time. I have never scrolled through and never gotten only music on my 6 presets. If XM was double the money I would still pay it. Until you live with CD quality music, the variety, the depth of the play lists and no commercials on all but 3 XM channels you will never know what a good deal $12.95 a month is. Of course it helps if you are a music lover. What is better than 40's big band, old school jazz, Blues, or 80 alternative. Scott
dajarrel
The news feeds (Fox and CNN headline news) are actually the audio feed of the television/cable program. They always fill the TV ad time with xm and viagra/cialis/whatever commercials. But depite the commercials, I wouldn't be without it for the world. I only hate XM lost NASCAR to Sirrius. bummer fwiw dj
kimel
No commercials on the XM channels I live on. Clear Channel is evil. They own just about every radio station in the local market.

ima45dv8
Clear Channel is evil. They ruined just about every good radio station in Atlanta.
Middle Man
There are about three "commercial" radio channels on XM that are actually FM broadcast radio stations sent over the XM satellites. And all but a few of the News and Talk feeds are the same one that are broadcast over AM or TV so they have to fill the commercial breaks with something. Remineds me of when they first brought out cable TV: "So.... you'll pay us money and we will let you watch TV." "OK.... so we won't have to listent to commercials?" "Actually, you will be getting MORE commercials." "But, the shows will be WAYY better.....?" "Some will be better, most will be crap and the VAST majority will be re-running really old junk shows that weren't any good even when they were new.... And, the bonus is, a "30 minute show" from the 70's will now take 40 minutes to watch because we are cramming in so many extra commercials." "SOUNDS GREAT! Where do I sign?" JFD
I remember MTV in 1981 or so. No commercials and they actually had music videos. Then the videos went to hell, the commercials started, and finally there were no more videos at all.
dlcrouch
yesterday on XM Fred, i heard a Paul Anka cover of Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit". You'll never hear that on Clear Channel. Here's a link to the concert video
