Eyeglass question
dlcrouch replied to leam's topic in Miscellaneous Topics That Do Not Fit in Any Other Forum
I wear bifocals and for years would shoot (along with other sports) with my regular glasses and clip-ons. I just got a set of ESS Fly-Bys with prescription lenses and are fairly happy with them. -

dlcrouch replied to GlockSpeed31's topic in Travel, Locations, Ranges, etc.

New Cellphone Recommendation

My wife and i both have BB Pearls - mine for work, hers for personal use. 1) Mine is integrated with our corporate Exchange email system and gives me exactly what I need - email, calendaring and contacts. 2) My wife uses her phone for yahoo email access, text messaging, MMS (picture) mail and is quite happy with it - she upgraded from a Razr. 3) Web Access - ok for getting specific info such as sports scores, weather, movies. Not worth a darn for browsing. 4) We both use ATT - i'm happy with the service and rate plan. That said, i get a pretty good discount through my company. 5) To access email and access the WWW, you'll need a data plan. I went with an unlimited plan (29.99 + voice plan) 6) Depending on your tech skills and patience, configuring a BB for email access and other web features can be a bit trying. Try to find a dealer who can help you out. 7) Here is a great BB forum http://www.pinstack.com/ In regards to the IPhone 1) Wait for the 3g version - access over ATT's edge network is (according to reports) fair to unusable. 2) If you really want to stay with TM (or hate ATT), there are rumors about Apple releasing an unlocked version sometimes this year. -
Texas taxes the pole..
dlcrouch replied to eerw's topic in Miscellaneous Topics That Do Not Fit in Any Other Forum
$ 5.00 - that's a 1/2 a beer or 1/20 of a table dance at one of these joints - or so i've heard. there a number of these "special purpose" or "sin" taxes collected in Texas - they go into the general revenue fund and seldom to the original intended purpose. The state park fees are a classic case. Millions in tax revenue and our parks are in terrible shape! -
whatever you buy, spring for a 3 yr extended warranty - i've owned Dell, IBM, Compaq, Tosh, etc and most had some sort of problem after the 1st year. you'll make up the cost on the first repair. my daughter's Dell had a problem with the speakers and they send someone to the house for the repair (at night).

I won a new Dell laptop with Vista Ultimate and Office 2007 and i just don't see the value in Vista. It's a memory hog, i had to upgrade a number of software packages i already owned and the wireless networking locks up about once a day. What't that old line - "There's no there there" A new MAC is looking better every day.

Norton Subscription Due.

I've been using ZoneAlarm security suite and like it. It seems to consume much less resources than Norton. Tech support could be better. -
Windows Vista "Home Edition"
dlcrouch replied to EricW's topic in Computers, Cameras, and Electronic Devices of Any Kind
well - my free copy of Vista Ultimate cost me several hundred dollars for applictiion upgrades. I don't see any advantage to Vista at all. Same for Office 2007. -

Camera advice needed
dlcrouch replied to rtr's topic in Miscellaneous Topics That Do Not Fit in Any Other Forum
We just bought our daughter a S3 for her birthday. She did a lot of research and that's the one that topped her list and matched our budget. She was looking for a fast camera with a 12x or so zoom for sports, wildlife and action photography. CircuitCity and Amazon are discounting them because there is a replacement model coming out. You should be able to get one for around $300. -
