Mike Dame
I have a itch for a new 'M4' ish rifle. I've narrowed it down to a Stag Arms or an Armalite based on price and availabilty up here. Just curious as to people's experiences with either company.
uscbigdawg
JP, DPMS, Cavalry Arms and CMMG from builders like JP, Triangle Shooting Sports and Accuracy Speaks. That's it. Rich
BBoyd
I have a 16 inch barrel Armalite, have shot it regularly for past 4 years, in 3 gun matches, and just plinking and I've had zero problems with it what so ever. did have a couple of mag problems with some cheaper mags, when I first got it, and didn't know better, but that's long past. it's a tack driver for sure. kurtm
Armalite would get my vote between the two. The fit and finish is very good on Armalite, Stag is good just not as good. KURTM
Huck
It really, really, really doesn't matter. If you want to look for premium and a noticable step up in quality, look at Sabre defense.
herky
Mike, given your location and availability, the Armalite is a good choice. I have a 16" flat top and it is a great shooter.
cking
I think both are equal in quality. I own both. However the armalite offers the mid length gas system which I think is a good advantage. So I would buy the armalite, or build a mid-length from stag parts.
Patrick Sweeney
I've had good luck with both. however, the Armalite is going to have a screw-clamp front sight housing, and the Stag will have the correct M4 tapered pin front sight housing. I just spent a week thrashing a Stag through a contractors course, close to 4,000 rounds. Worked like a champ.
chp5
I've had good luck with Stage lowers and parts.
Musky Hunter
Armalite has lifetime warranty from Wolverine Supplies Mike. I would get a 16" Midlength.
uscbigdawg
I'm picking up a couple of Stag lowers. While their support to USPSA/IMGA is not on par with DPMS et. al., they have been very pro-active in sending in lowers to California. Nothing like giving DOJ a big middle finger. I'll probably run one of these as a dedicated 22 rifle and the other will probably be holding my new rifle from Benny. Rich
Mike Dame
looks like a 16" mid lenth carbine from armalite is the way to go. Thanks guys.
chp5
Calvalry Arms also makes a complete 16" upper with mid-length gas system.
Pigdawg
IMHO its a toss up but if you get the Armalite spend the extra money for the match trigger. I have 1 on my AR10 and it is well worth it.
Derek45
STAG lower CMT upper SABRE barrel.
uscbigdawg
I'll throw in a +1 for Sabre barrels. I'm going to give them a try on my next build. Rich
Mike Dame
I went with the Stag for price point and availability over the Armalite. Very pleased with the result.
00bullitt
I'm gonna go with Sabre Defense. If you know how hard it is to obtain ISO 9000 quality standards rating......that says alot. What other AR mfg can claim that? Not to mention how much interest they show in the sport with their sponsorships. I've got one of their midlength 16" chrome line 1/7 twist barrels mounted to an A1 upper. 1 in 7 twist is something that can't be had from Armalite nor Stag. It easily holds 2" at 100 yards iron sighted with GA Arms 55 gr FMJ. Look at pkfirearms.com and talonarms.com for excellent pricing on their stuff. G17raider
I don't have any experience with Armalite but I do have a Stag lower and it's mighty fine.
Heavy Metal Only
You can make 500yard shots with an .308 armilite w/ iron sights pretty easily.
Cactustactical
Stag Arms for reasons purely related to business relationships.
