That is what I was thinking. usually they do a bunch of encouraging things and then spring some kind of "fee" on the "winner" or require part of the "tax" be paid up front. Moreover, thousands of people in Oregon alone have received bogus checks, would you believe, from some fake bank somewhere out of state, insisting that they've won some damn' lottery or other. It's just too weird. We enable a spam-catcher called Postini at our ISP and it catches 99.999% of p*n*s enlargers, stock offers, Chinese gold investments, Rolex watch sellers, Software fakes, viagra come-ons, Free college degrees, and on and on ad nauseum. I subscribed to it officially the other day (an extra $1 a month) and I've only received one tiny spam out of dozens and dozens over just the past four days. The ISP does a good job of filtering weirdnesses altogether, but to have access to the additional layer is good, AND I can adjust the degree of filtering if I want to.
