which is better .... flat wire spring or round wire spring for Glock recoil rod ??

want to change the recoil spring on my Glock 26... don't like the plastic.... which is better ... flat wire spring or round wire spring on a recoil rod ?     TIA

What do you mean by "better"? Do you mean which one lasts longer?

I’m not sure I’d replace the spring in my 26, but I’ve always used ISMI flat springs in my full size competition Glocks. 
Just a couple months ago I picked up a Carver heavy tungsten rod for my Gen5 17 and it requires the Wolff round recoil springs so now I’m using those. I don’t have a lot of experience with it, but I really can’t see much difference between them. 
 

As far as what you mean by better, not sure how long they last would matter to me, they are cheap enough to keep spares on hand and replace when you clean the gun, which for me is every 18-24 months.

I've run both styles in my Glocks, can't tell much difference if any.

 

I prefer the ISMI, too bad they don't make them to fit the thicker heavier guide rods, though.

To me the flat ones feel smoother. When cycling the slide by hand. Can not tell the difference while shooting. Yes I have booth styles.

Do do most people just change out the plastic guide rod for a metal one and keep the flat spring?

I think if people are going to change it, they change everything. 
If the gun is a Gen4 or Gen5, then an adapter is usually installed so that a Gen3 type rod can be used.
