BangSwitch
I'd like to shoot Steel Challenge with a Ruger MK IV 22/45 and need a good competition holster. With a thumb-rest on the frame, kydex holsters are out. So I'm looking at open class / universal adjustable holsters. I've been looking at race holsters from CR Speed and maybe Ghost. I'd love a Double Alpha holster, but none of their inserts claim 22/45 compatibility. Any suggestions?
Shootingaggie
You don’t need a holster for steel challenge.
BangSwitch
I suppose it's that I'm used to drawing from a holster in every other form of competition.
AzShooter
The Double Alpha for a standard 1911 will work. I was using a Guba Rebas for the past year but I decided to make my own from leather. I too like having my gun on my hip instead of having to bag it after every stage. The Striplin Thumb Rest gets in the way on most holsters but you can use a Kydex and a Dremel to make one work. I've seen it done but didn't like the way mine came out. I had to cut the back side down real low and the thumb rest no longer gets in the way. There is plenty of retention. I mounted a QLS fork to it to attach to my Safariland rig. It worked - until I got the Striplin Thumb Rest, just like you said. I stashed it away last year and haven't thought to dig it out. I suppose I could notch it for thumb rest. ....if it doesn't work - it's was only $

There is no drawing from a holster for 22s in SCSA. You will shoot from the low ready, as per the rules. There is no rule preventing you from carrying your 22 pistol in a holster during a match. You just will not be allowed to draw from it.
BangSwitch
Just to close the loop on this thread. I was able to modify a CR Speed WMS II holster to fit a Ruger Mark IV 22/45. Naturally they don't have a .22lr barrel nub, so I had to get creative and fabricate something from a snap cap and a nylon bushing. In the end, I found a workable solution. Joe4d
Hummm, I used a Bianchi M9 flap holster before I got high speed lately and bought a tandemcross.
