ysrracer
I have no idea what this means, but left to right are Hoosier/BBI/Bang&Clang/Bayou bullets. All are 160gr .357 bullets. All are sized .358 except for BBI which is .357 I'll measure the length, and get the weights. They were randomly pulled from boxes of bullets. I'll do my red-neck hardness test (smash them with a hammer) too. What does it all mean? Other than I'm retired and have too much time on my hands, I have no idea. lll Otto lll
Not a scratch on them. How did you pull them? Edit: Never mind, these bullets weren't actually pulled. Edited October 6, 2021 by lll Otto lll
GrumpyOne
I'd make a slide with a weight, drop from the same height down the slide. That way they all get hit pretty close to the same.
GrumpyOne
If you have a torch of some kind, you can do a coatings test. Drill a small hole in the side near the base and then heat with a torch till the lead melts. See if the lead runs out and the coating remains in the bullet shape... Batmo
Different molds = different lengths and weighs. The same mold can also be subject in weight...especially when mass produced.

ysrracer
Latest test, loaded over all length (oal) I load on a Dillon 750, but for this test I loaded them one at a time, not progressively. I know these will be .005 shorter than if I load them progressively. Hoosier: 1.202 BBI: 1.200 B&C: 1.193 Bayou: 1.194 My normal load is a Bayou loaded to 1.200, and that's what my dies are set up for.

ysrracer
Ok, here's my chrono results. I loaded all four test groups last night using the exact same settings. I loaded 8 rounds into the gun, shot 4 over the chrono, then shot 4 at a target for accuracy. Before the first shot I pointed the gun up, and tapped the cylinder four times. ysrracer
And here are the accuracy tests. I fired 4 rounds at each target. 25 yards, 2 hands unsupported, double action, left eye closed, 6-o'clock hold, and staged the trigger.

ysrracer
So what have we learned? 1. Pretty much any 160gr bullet will work 2. I should probably just order any bullets that are in stock 3. When I'm running and gunning in an ICORE match and I "mike" a target at 5 yards, it ain't a "bad bullet" 4. It's great being retired and having free time !! AzShooter
Good reporting ysrracer. Thanks for sharing your results. Yes, any 160 grain bullet will work. If you miss a 5 yard target it's you. Being retired is a great profession. Enjoy the heck out of it.

AzShooter
No, the only shooting I get to do these days is Steel Challenge at Ben Avery. I still shoot my S&W 617 for the match and have a lot of fun but I had to get rid of all my centerfire guns when I was in a wheelchair, looking for assisted living and non of the places would allow me to have a gun. As luck would have it I stayed in my house but never got back into centerfires. Now I shoot a Volquartesen Black Mamba or my 617 at two clubs at Ben Avery. l need to check out PRGC and Rio but Rio is a bit far for this old guy to drive to. AzShooter
If you get a chance come out and shoot Steel Challenge next Sunday at Ben Avery with Cactus Match ( practiscore registration). A couple of revolver shooters will be there that I'm sure you know, Todd ( I forget his last name ) and John Chafee. I'm Steven Bressan btw in case you want to squad with me. Thanks, can't make it on Sunday, but if you're free on Saturday swing by Phoenix Rod And Gun Club around noon. Catch the end of the revo match, and stick around for the BBQ.
