jeremy kemlo
Can I convert from 38 super to 9 mm or 40 for shooting USPSA? If so average cost, reliability, best gunsmith,?
konkapot
I'd post this in Gunsmithing. More eyes on it there, and some of the regular posters in that section are super knowledgable.
Joe4d
make sure you can get magazines... Also para parts are getting hard to come by and the platform is losing alot of aftermarket support. Honestly IMO as you mentioned smith and not doing the work your self, its a losing proposition. Especially considering cost of magazines. Compared to selling what you have and buying another platform.
HCH
It should just be a barrel swap to go to 9mm. I assume this is a double stack? If so, the Remington mags should work and they seem to be easier to find in 9MM than 40. I have had 3 Para 16-40s. The oldest one would not run STI mags, but the other two run them just fine. MBX also makes mags for Para.
P Taylor
Check the breechface cut , some makers use a .40 cut for 9mm , Super 38 and .40 caliber. If it has the .40 breech face it is just barrel , mags and springs to go to 40 or 9mm.
P Taylor
....and I think it was Sarco that bought out the PARA inventory. Last time I looked the inventory was getting low but some things still available.
vegaspete61
My Para is a P14 40. I bought a slide & barrel in 9mm & 45acp. Makes the conversion as easy a swapping top ends. As has been posted...Remington mags work. SPS mags work great in mine. Slide/barrel kits are on ebay pretty regularly. Try Bruce at adlertax@earthlink.net, I bought my 45 top end from him directly.
