jskd82
I just received 5 ASC colt style mags all are 32 rounds, When i load the 8th bullet into them they all rattle from one of the previous rounds somehow coming loose in there. Is this normal? I don't have my gun yet, it's supposed to arrive this week but I went ahead and ordered some spare mags beforehand. But if I depress the the top round, it stops rattling so I'm assuming it will not do it when it is loaded into the gun. It's just annoying having that round rattling around in there and was wondering if these are defects or if others have the same problem. I figured they were good mags because it had over 140 reviews with almost 5 star average on gunmagwarehouse, but after searching it now seems people don't think they are good mags. Link to comment
OPENB
It's normal, it's just the rounds stacking in the mag. But, Metalform is your best bet for reliable Colt mags. Brownells sells them with their brand on them that have a coating that makes them slicker. I bought several dozen blued MF from Palmetto when they were $12-$14. Link to comment
jskd82
Good to know thanks! just curious if the Metalforms also have the rattle? Edited December 9, 2018 by jskd82 Link to comment
M1A4ME
Lots of double stack magazines do that. On a pretty regular basis people on the CZ Forum ask the same question - why does my magazine make a rattle noise when I shake it? Different magazines/calibers do it at different round counts in the magazine. Link to comment

Tampa-XD45
FWIW - I've had the inside of the welded seam rust which causes roughness for the orange plastic follower and can bind. I only use the ASC mags for practice. I only use metalforms in matches. Link to comment
M1A4ME
The stainless steel ASC's rusted? Link to comment

Florida humidity and sea breezes are tough on metal. From Google for those interested in metallurgy: The chromium in stainless steel when exposed to oxygen in the atmosphere forms a thin invisible layer called chromium oxide. This invisible layer covering the entire surface gives stainless steel its ability to resist stains and rust. If this layer is damaged rust is formed on the surface at the point of that damage. M1A4ME
I'll have to keep an eye on mine. I'd assumed they were more rust resistant than the blued metalforms I also use. I wipe both types/brands down with the same oily cloth I wipe the surfaces of guns down with, but figured the ASCs were still not as likely to rust. Link to comment
Matt1911
Yep it's normal. And as mentioned above, check Palmetto for their $12 deals. I have a few those as well as a few brownells and trust all of them when the timer beeps. Link to comment
Beef15
I don't recall if my ASCs rattle, but I have other double stacks that do for sure. I beat on the feedlips of my ASCs a little bit to make them seat easier and drop free empty, they were wide at the back, otherwise trouble free. Link to comment
