Charging handle failure pics

After 4 years and thousands of rounds, I had this failure occur in a match last week.  I dropped the bolt and the latch flew 8 feet forward. Finished the match with no furthur issues.

PSA handle. The Badger Ord. latch is fine.

Kind of like some of us old shooters. Wore plumb out.

yeah....the day you start using aluminum.....is the day it starts to fail. Putting a tac-latch on REALLY puts a lot stress on that pivot......good thing is....charge handles are cheap and somewhat consumable.

Although I still have the stock P.O.S. on my MPX, I changed to steel charging handles, years ago, on all of my ARs.

I would guess its the 6061 version (the oversized latch didn't help either). I have seen this before with them. I have not personally witnessed this with a 7075 Mil-spec charge handle.

I thought about doing this once.  And then I looked at my existing aluminum charging handle.  It was a little worn down on one side from a surprisingly small amount of shooting / dry firing.  It left me concerned as to whether or not my charging handle was damaging my upper receiver (it looked fine).  With a steel charging handle, it seems like that might really hurt your upper receiver which I think is aluminum.

 

This is all just speculation on my part and I could be totally wrong.  I am curious what your actual experience has been.  Any damage to your upper receiver?
