Optic mount screws

Are most loctiting there optic mount screws or checking them after each match?

I use blue lock tight and they still shoot loose every 3-400 rounds. I also have a thumb rest.

I have never used anything but red Lock-tite and this was on the advise of my gunsmith. I've never had any problems with it coming loose.

If you need to remove the optic mount you will need to use heat via a heat gun or pin-point micro torch. I've always used a heat gun and it has worked well.

I may use red next time. I think things heat up around the barrel more than the temperature of the blue can take so eventually they rattle loose.

THIS! Use red on them and forget about it. One less thing to worry about is always nice. Use blue loctite for other less critical screws such as attaching the scope to the mount, grip screws, etc.

Loctite 272 Red after cleaning the threads with primer.

I've never had one come loose but it does require heat to remove.

I've used blue with good results. I had one gun that I had to put red on but all my other guns, I use blue and they stay tight.

Red loctite and I mark the screws so I can visually see if they move.

Try sealing inside of frame with finger nail polish after loctite has dried.

All we use is blue and have never had a customer tell us their bolts ever came loose. Torquing to recommended spec goes a long ways as well.

Key is clean threads on both frame and bolt. No residue or oils.

After apply your choice of loctite, let it cure for 24hrs before shooting. Good luck.

You can also use N Primer with the 271 red loctite; a very firm seal. Once set, the material will, with heat, free with heat. At times, up to 450 degrees. Apply the primer to both mating surfaces prior to assembly, product directions are easily followed.

Get in the habit of checking all your screws every time you clean it. My experience is very inconsistent. Every screw on all my open guns has come loose at one time or another. Now that I routinely check it's a slight nudge on a random screw here or there. If one is consistently loosening up than I hit it with red Loctite.
