JunotFranco
Hey guys, quick question. I have A LOT of 9mm plated bullets and I was wondering if they are good to go in a poly barrel. Have any of you tried it and what is the down side of plated bullets as far as speed goes. Thanks! Edited July 6, 2015 by JunotFranco
meanzbullet
Plated bullets are GTG. I have shot a few 10's of thousands. Some poly barrels have issues with bare lead but most plated and even coated are fine.

bfalcon00
Yeah I can't say I've ever had a problem. I use xtreme plated bullets though and they have a thicker better bonded plate coating than some.
JunotFranco
How about speed restrictions? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Adam B
I had issues with plated in my elite limited in 40, some would be dead on and others would look like you shot the target with a shotgun
Paul-the new guy
Too much crimp will cause that. I have pushed them pretty hard with no issues.
Adam B
These loads had very little crimp, I have no use for plated bullets
BeerBaron
I can't speak to other brands but I've shot thousands of frontier 124gn RN CMJs through my poly rifled tanfoglio open gun. Running them around 1375fps up to 1400fps. Works very nicely.
Adam B
The bullets I used were berry's and maybe they were just junk
ItZallGooD
Plated work just fine for me. I use Xtreme and have had nothing but good results.
tcoz
How about speed restrictions? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Keep them under 1200fps
z40acp
Speed depends on the bullet. Most say 1200 fps but Berrys claims 1500 fps with their thick plated bullets. Rainer has some thicker plated that they said were tested in a 38 super at around 1450 fps.
45 Raven
I have had problems with Berry's bullets in both 9mm and 10mm Glock pistols (OEM barrels) when pushed to around 1200 FPS. Shot okay out to 15 yards, but observed keyholing at 20 yards and beyond. Their .45 bullets (230 gr.) at 800 to 850 shot great. YMMV. JunotFranco
Cool, I really just wanted to load regular 9mm standard velocity. Thanks guys.
Adam B
my keyholing started at 950fps with 180gr 40 berry's
kevin c
I had tumbling of 147 grain Berrys through my stock Glock 9mm barrels. No xs crimp either. Also had tumbling (through the same barrels) of one brand of coated 9mm bullets (Bear Creek - same weight), but not with other brands. To be fair, if I'd tried other plated bullets they might have been OK, but I just settled on jacketed and later other brands of coated bullets that did work and left it at that.
