Open gun for beginner

Shooting 9mm here. I just hate having to pickup my brass every stage and 38 super brass is a lot harder to get and a lot pricier. 9mm I can pick some up from the last stage or so at the match if at all or even just work a GSSF match etc and get plenty. If I do need to buy it is cheap to do so.

Tony, I love the Tanfos but if you're looking to save money I don't think a Match is the way to go. There are a precious few gunsmiths willing to do this work for you.

If you want to do it just to walk the path less traveled I can commiserate

You can pick up a used 2011 for under $2K and you'd be hard pressed to turn your match into a decent Open gun with a big stick for that kind of money unless you want to do the work yourself.

The comp is the tough/expensive part

Because there are no threaded barrels available for Tanfoglios, nor decent comps you can just buy, so custom machining is needed.

The classifieds won’t be available until one has contributed 50 (I think that’s the number) real and contributing posts and after those posts have been reviewed by one of the moderators who do a great job of keeping this site going and focused.
