SilverBolt
I have been experimenting with different powders. My current supply of Bullseye is just about gone. I need a consistent soft recoiling 9mm minor load. I just tried 3.2gr of N320 behind a 147gr MG CMJ bullet. My 10 shot string ranged from 815 fps to 974 fps. Shot a second 10 shot string that ran 815-947. Each load was hand weighed and cross checked on two scales. Most of my loads run about +/- 30 fps max. Anyone else experience this with N320? johnsons1480
Nope, my velocity spread was 951.5-979.3. So 27.8 fps extreme spread. 10 shot string, Bayou Bullets 135 gr RN, 1.125" OAL, 3.6 gr VV N320.

My results with N320 are similar, wide extreme spreads at lower charge weights. When the weight got higher spreads closed up...

Are you using the same headstamp brass? Case volume may vary based on brand.
bowenbuilt
Go to 3.4 to 3.6 to get the 320 in it's happy pressure range and you will be fine. Edited July 23, 2014 by bowenbuilt
pbosik
My experience with 3.5 N320 with 147gr BBI at 1.125 oal is only around 20 fps and yields a 133 ish pf in my Cz Edited July 23, 2014 by pbosik
rdinga
I know this might sound crazy....but are you lubing your brass and checking for consistency in OAL? My loads are in the 3.6 range, however I find them very consistent.
SilverBolt
I am using mixed brass, loaded to 1.15 OAL. I will try again at 3.4 & 3.6. Appreciate the input. For my load development rounds I measure the OAL on all and case gage all.
mjohn
I too think your loads are too light. I use 3.7 of N320 @ 1.140 and Zero 147 FMJ and am at 133 PF with all rounds above the 125 PF. I can not remember the spread.
Service Desk
VV320 plays strange games when used in light loads and cold weather, I found that Win 231 was basically like me...a lot more forgiving in small doses, but dirty regardless of how much you get. Butterpuc
I have seen the best extreme spreads and standard deviations from N320 com paired to all other powders I have tested. Extreme spread is generally ~20fps and the best standard deviation I ever got was a 2fps. If I could keep N320 in stock I would switch completely an never use anything else. 147 BBI 1.135" @ 3.2gr N320
dave33
If you want to stay with lighter loads I have found titegroup to be very consistent in even the lightest loads.
