Jayohee Posted May 5, 2014 Share Posted May 5, 2014 Noob here so pls bear with me I just finished my first AP orientation at a local range and I remember them saying we can't add any to the slide/trigger but nothing explicit about the frame. I have some on the left side of my frame for my non-shooting thumb and want to know if I should remove it before our match in Sunday. I tried searching on Google a few times but it seems like most topics were from several years ago. A few of you have said I'm ok for production yet others have said no. The rule book is pretty clear however so it looks like I will be taking it off. Given that we're allowed to add grip tape to the grip I would like for USPSA to consider allowing us to add it to other parts of the frame. Specifically I'd like to be able to put some in front of the take down pin/lever. I shoot thumbs forward and it would be nice to have a little something there for my thumb to grip. alma Posted May 6, 2014 Share Posted May 6, 2014 What tape or holster ate you using? If production division then I assume your holster (likely kydex) covers that area. That's not something I had considered when I was thinking about requesting the rule change and given that one of the AD's has expressed his opinion I'll save the BoD the time and effort of telling me no by not bothering to submit the requested change. I'm thinking of using chalk or some type of grip spray on my non-shooting hand. It's become one of my primary spots but this is getting more attention as I'm becoming more interested in USPSA. Stippling would do the trick but it would likely cause holster wear as well. My M&P is with the gunsmith right now so I can't check to see how much contact it makes with the side of the holster. Grip tape in the right place helps but you need to correctly position your weak hand on the grip and lock it in. I made this video for another shooter bit it keeps coming in handy. Perhaps it can help Thank you for the vid. This is indeed how I grip in general and as a result I've just switched the tape to the upper half of the weak hand grip area. Roger that. Plus it's a permanent modification and the next person buying the gun may not want it modified like that.
