Secretariat
If I may ask,for those of you,who have tried out the Recoil Master, what do you think of it?Does it really control recoil as compared to an ordinary steel guide rod?Would recommend getting one? Thanks in advance. Edited January 7, 2014 by Secretariat
j0s3ph
I ditched the recoil master that came with my pistol so I could use different spring weights. Try it and see for yourself. Some love it some hate it.
lee blackman
I honestly can't tell the difference between the recoil master light in my STI Steelmaster and a 9lb recoil spring on a solid guide rod. I might not be like keen enough on it to really tell, but shoots the same to me.
Tino2212
I like it for me it feels better then a normal guide rod .
45 Raven
I like the recoilmaster on my STI 2011. I believe it shoots flatter than a normal guide rod/spring.
Ultimo-Hombre
I have run a recoil master for a year now, about 20k rounds, runs great. Replaced the large spring (heavy) once. Quite satisfied.

Albertl35
I ran recoil masters in my Brazos shorty, Bedell shorty and even the bedell limited and they all ran fine with zero issues.
bountyhunter
I have the dual spring recoil rod setups in about five different autos. I have never seen a reduction in recoil or muzzle flip, but they do keep the slide from hitting the frame which is worth it.

remoandiris
IMO there are so many different contributors to control recoil that singling out one item is dubious. Powders, bullet weights, comps, recoil spring weights, etc., all go into controlling recoil. I have a friend who uses a Recoil Master. It broke our last local match. Lucky for him he had another. BTW, when I shoot his gun it doesn't feel any different than mine.
RePete
I have in my Ranger II and dislike it. I'm changing to the standard FLGR, spring and plug. EGW and Wolffe springs.
IHAVEGAS
If you are talking STI, they changed the design a bit recently. Bought an Edge last year & the RM bound on reassembly after cleaning & locked up the slide. It was a real pain to ship back to STI as the local UPS place didn't want to ship because they couldn't rack it and verify an empty chamber. Had STI just get rid of the thing & send it back with a standard guide rod, which I prefer for the convenience of fiddling with springs. STI may have changed the design back to original or otherwise fixed the problem by now, don't know how often the issue occurred but do know that other folks have had the same problem. klee
I replaced the Recoil Master in both my Limited & Open guns with a standard steel guide rod. Problem with Recoil Master (especially in a open gun) is that they are only available in either light or heavy spring. With a guide rod, you have a lot of choices. Plus I really couldn't tell the difference in recoil between the two. Edited March 29, 2014 by klee
Jaxshooter
I am running a light Recoil Master in one of my 1911 45s with a 12.5 lb spring. The gun recovers quickly and there is no evidence of beating up the frame.
cecil
I use the STI stock recoil in my Steel Masters... right at 10,000 rounds in 2 guns ...not one problem yet...
