Guardian
I just started reloading and I'm aware that a chrono is essential for getting the PF that you need and also double checking that a load isn't too hot (before a bad load blows up your gun). My question is WHERE do you guys usually run your chrono? Do most of you shoot outdoors or indoors? And if you chrono outdoors, is it at a outdoor range or just "in the woods"? Thanks for any and all replies in advance!

bigdawgbeav
Outdoor range. Indoor range would require a light box, plus a range that will allow you beyond the line.
Poppa Bear
Both. Prefer the indoor because I do have a IR light kit.
RePete
I've used both. For indoor you can't have florescent lights on.
Steve RA
Outdoor range. Years ago indoor with a Oehler and light kit. Got a Pro Chrono a little while back and I've got to say it is a handy little devil and real rapid to set up. I just read the velocities - write them down - do all the stats later at home. bagdad45
Outside on an unsupervised range. I have shot out the screens and had issues with sun angle here in AZ. Found a big sun umbrella from outdoor patio and use that over the screens. When done with the chrono move the shade so I can practice standing underneath it. RePete
I'm now using this over the chrono http://www.walmart.com/ip/Ozark-Trail-9-x-9-Express-Canopy-Blue/22402171 Just lower it so that it's 2 or 3 feet over the chrono. I shoot from under one of these. http://www.walmart.com/ip/Ozark-Trail-10-x-10-Mesh-Screen-Tan/21063168 I can raise and lower them alone, a PITA but it can be done. okieSteve
I've chrono'd at a local public outdoor range during a weekday when not usually crowded, but don't prefer that. Mostly at the gun club I belong to, further drive but much better and private access to an empty bay.
