Going from Recoil Master to FLGR

Hey all-

I picked up a Brazos Edge and am getting ready to take it out to do some testing. In the mean time, I have been reading about the Recoil Master it has. If I wanted to replace it with a solid gude rod, what would I need? Guide rod, spring, and reverse plug? Is that it? What do you recommend? I know It will have to be fitted, but right now, I am cuirous about the parts needed.

Here are some items I think I will need, please add anything I don't have:

http://shootersconnectionstore.com/STI-Reverse-Plug-5-in-P837.aspx

http://shootersconnectionstore.com/STI-Guide-Rod-5-in-P835.aspx

This is not my final list of parts, I am just trying to visialize all the parts I would need to replace the recoil master with a conventional guide rod/spring set-up.

Thank you

the regular STI guide rod wouldnt fit the Edge that I had. Ended up buying the EGW guide rod for STI's which has the head of the rod cut to fit the narrower STI frame. also used the reverse plug that came with the gun.

The ISMI 12.5lb spring is popular. I like the feel of the Wolff 12lb variable. springs are cheap so you can try both.

Will the Dawson toolless guide rod work in the Edge? Is there a separate one for a standard 1911?

Thanks

The guide rod for a 2011 has the 'back' of it (end that points towards the grip) turned slightly smaller, so it fits in the frame. A 1911 guide rod is slightly larger here, and some won't fit into the frame of a 2011. Many guide rods are turned small enough to fit on both 2011 and 1911s, including the dawson toolless guide rod.

The Dawson is a great choice. I've replaced 2 RM's with Dawsons and have never regretted it.

If you get a Dawson it'll include a reverse plug. If you get an EGW (or other), you can probably re-use the RM's reverse plug. I bought an extra reverse plug thinking the RM ones weren't standard, but they look identical to me.

Got a new STI Ranger II a couple of years ago and replaced the RM with Dawson FLGR. Since there is no FLGR for commander length guns, Dawson cut one up for me. That's great service. You can count on those guys!

I ordered the EGW FLGR and a bunch of different springs from Shooters connection while at the ER the other night. Should be here tomorrow. I got an ISMI 12.5# and a few different of the Shooters Connection Springs to try.

So that s all i need is a guide rod, reverse plug and a recoild spring? 3 parts?

Two parts, guide rod and recoil spring. Stock reverse plug should work fine with FLGR.

I'm running the EGW stainless guide rod - http://shootersconnectionstore.com/EGW-Guide-Rod-1-piece-stainless-5-STI-P352.aspx

FWIW: When I swapped the RM out of my MatchMaster I was able to continue using the stock reverse plug.

Hello: Another Option would be the Briley aluminum guide rod that Power Factor Shooting sells. It lightens up the front nicely. I like these for a nose heavy pistol and on my single stacks that are overweight  I would try a 12.5lb and a 14lb ISMI recoil spring as well to see what you like. The stock reverse plug will work fine as others have stated. Thanks, Eric

anyone have any problems with the RM reverse plug wearing faster than others or are they all about the same ?

What do you mean by wearing ???

I was curious if other plugs last longer, if they are made better or of different materials
