opticspecialist
anyone shooting a springfield trp? i shot one and liked it, now i'm thinking about the stainless model for a do all 1911. any experiences with said pistol?
Rob Tompkins
Had one for a while, bought it used. At the the time it was too heavy for IDPA with some mods (recently the rules changed, now its legal). I didn't like the screw on mag well, seemed cheap to me. I'm not a fan of the two peice guide rod, just another thing to potentially fail. Checkering was very, very sharp and not comfortable. I have to shift my grip for reloads so it was not a nice thing for me. It was accurate and ran fine, my issues are really just minor things. IMHO, for the same amount of money there are a lot of other options to look at, some you might like better. Shop around.
jdphotoguy
I have the TRP Operator with the full length dust cover. Awesome weapon and after about 2,000+ rounds through it, still very tight slide to rail fit. Sadly I'll probably be sell it.
Seth
Great gun. I put about 15k rounds through mine before I foolishly traded it away. It was dead nuts reliable.
mbopp
I picked up an almost new half rail TRP Operator. I like it, it's been dead nuts reliable, very accurate, and a joy to shoot. However, the Operator has a bushingless bull barrel so you can't use it in IDPA and you're in Limited for USPSA. But the stainless model has a conventional bushing so you're OK there. Marv Z
I have a TRP in armory kote with a bushing barrel and it's a awesome gun. Right now I'm shooting ESP in IDPA, but I'm going to start in CDP with the TRP. I like the agressive checkering and would only add an extended mag release. Jammer1911
I have a TRP Stainless and love it. I have had very good luck with it and it is very accurate. I shot it for two years in USPSA SS and it was fun. I still have it and it is certainly a do all gun. I am currently shooting a SA RO. I did not want to change out the sights on the TRP and the RO has an adjustible rear and I added a FO front. Is as accurate and as tight as the TRP. You can not go wrong with a Springfield Armory Pistol In My Honest Opinion
wmspdi
I have a TRP AK that I picked up used (like new, no rail, low round count and at a great price). I changed out the full legth guide rod in favor of a GI style plug and spring guide. I also changed to a slightly more aggressive version of Larry Davidsons grips (Thanks Larry). I have 5 Wilson 8 round, and 5 McCormick 10 round, plus the 2 factory magazines (used for Barney bullets). The TRP eats just about any load I feed it. It's a keeper and will be passed down to my son someday. Edited February 17, 2012 by wmspdi
Smo11
I used a trp at the 1911 honorific match here in mo and loved the stippling was perfect and it was all factory except for the grips it was a great gun if I start shooting L10 is ss I will be shooting a trp
Mr Player
The TRP is probably the best value in 1911s right now.
JACKAL
I should have mine sometime in the next week and can't wait. Been wanting one for awhile.
john58
I've had mine for a couple of years. I dulled up the front strap with a knife sharpening stone. Just to take the points off. Feels great now is a sweet shooter.
Boss1622
I have been shooting my TRP for 5 years in IDPA competition and it has been flawless. I would recommend this over any single stack 1911. The only thing I would caution you on is Magazine choices. My TRP will not lock the slide consistently if I use Wilson magazines, I have seen this in a few others and I have no idea why. I’m running Chip McCormick Power Mags and they work 100% perfect.
9X23Guy
I have a Professional and have had the same problem with Wilson mags. Its not the mags, the gun doesn't like them. The TRP is an amazing value and half the price of the Professional. To tell the truth most cannot shoot well enough to see the difference in accuracy between the two guns. As far as the checkering on the front strap it can be brutal and I like it that way. I do carry a roll of athletic tape for my fingers if I shoot more than a couple hundred rounds at a time. Boss1622
At first I thought the checking was too aggressive too but after shooting a few matches I wouldn’t want it any lighter. I find that I don’t need a “Death Grip” on the gun to keep it from moving around…
wgj3
To the couple of folk who mentioned trouble with the slide locking back on empty with certain types of magazines, I bought a couple of different slide stops and found that changing to an Ed Brown slide stop fixed the issue without any other changes.
