Shadyscott999
Can anyone tell me if there are actually any limits regarding lightening the slide on a 2011 for Limited? I looked at the rules and I didn't see anything. Just want to make sure I didn't overlook something. Thanks!
EkuJustice
Nope lighten away to your hearts content
twodownzero
The limit is when it gets violent and/or cracks the slide.
blaster113
for Limited guns you dont want to get too carried away on the slide cuts as the gun will be violent and longevity will be compromised as others have said. A 6 inch gun performs better with more lightening vs. a 5 inch gun, etc.
GunshineST
Does a lightened slide have any other impact on maintenance? More buildup around the barrel and slide? I guess it looks like those holes combined with oil would create a dirt / dust magnet.
Shadyscott999
Thanks everyone. Just wanted to confirm before I gave the go ahead.
anilson
Guns that have been lightened only get dirty at marginally faster rate, not really a factor in the shooting we do. I clean my guns every 3-5k and have no problems. If you were in a windy and sandy place you mite need to clean more often, but that would be true for any gun. Hope this Helps Adam

I couldn't see "dirt" being much of a problem on a game gun.
StravIs09
make sure if you lighten your slide... make the cuts rounded and not flat. most gunsmiths now will do this without question, but when they were all learning some did it the easy way and payed the price

Shadyscott999
^plus lightening cuts make awesome cocking serrations. and make your gun look cool I am having the gun Tri topped, slots cut in the flats, and the slide internally lightened. I will post pics when it is finished. BTW, Jeff Abernathy is doing the work.
splashdown
I think Stravis09 meant "avoid square corners" as these are stress risers that cracks will emanate from. Jeff Abernathy knows what he's doing, so I wouldn't be worried. I had a 6" gun that he built. Now it's my friends primary limited gun. I should never have sold it. StravIs09
yes i meant the corners. on a mill you have to cut it from the top and then clamp it down and cut it from the side. there is always some danger when taking material of a slide.
