  1. Definitely agree. Obviously, there is a strategic decision here with the .45 and 9mm. While they are missing the boat with the "shooting sports crowd that needs a high capacity major power factor single action pistol" (read: USPSA Limited), they know the facts about what people will buy. On a full size 1911, average Joe gun buyer wants a .45, 9mm, and .40 S&W in that order. To the defense minded, I know that I'm thinking "14 rounds of .45? Why would I need 16-17 rounds of .40SW when I've got 14+1 of .45? SOLD!" Of course, USPSA is getting more popular, so maybe the 9mm and .45 are more like test pilots to make sure the pistol can hold up? This could also be strategic in the sense that they may want the first round of shooters to be plinkers that don't put 1,000s of rounds through their guns per month. That way, the people that do buy the pistol (9mm is awfully tempting) and feed it 500 rounds at a time will be able to report on what is holding up and what isn't. I mean, at that price point, I imagine there's some MIM parts in there and some other things they did to save $. Not that MIM is inherently bad, just it could be the case that this gun won't hold up to 10k rounds / year.
  2. I think JMB is going to hex some of the members here for their comments...OP asked why the Trojan would be a better choice, not for reasons to go for the CZ. This is the 1911 forum, right? If you shoot a 1911 or 2011, I'd recommend sticking up for your sidearm, otherwise, be prepared for bad juju from a true believer
  3. "First, this pistol will be used strictly for fun at the range." Since it isn't a game gun, I personally find 1911's more enjoyable and fun to shoot as compared to striker fired or DA/SA auto pistols. Have you ever shot a 1911? What about the CZ? Have you fired a Beretta? Not sure if you can compare the CZ to the Beretta, but it's a DA/SA pistol that I personally dislike shooting. I find it clunky with an awkward trigger pull. YMMV. I'd take a glock over a CZ or Beretta any day of the week. What does a CZ blessed by Angus cost? Would that equal the cost of the Trojan? Make sure to compare fairly... Personally, I don't like the way CZ's feel. Notice a recurring theme? Personally...it's a personal thing, especially since it's for a fun range gun and not shooting competitively. The nice thing is if you buy one and end up not liking it, you can sell it at small or no loss and buy something else. That said, TROJAN. 1911's point better, feel better, are way cooler, and will shave full seconds off of your 1/4 mile. The only thing arguably better than a 1911 is a 2011.
  4. What caliber? Dawson Precision has a .45 Tactical in stock. I have one and it rocks; you wouldn't be disappointed.
  5. How's that shooting? Looks great! Dawson does still offer a Super Tuned Edge, too, aside from their CRP version. It's a little more, but well worth the additional cost. I have one, love it, and recently had Matt Cheely do some slide work...absolutely LOVE the gun! It's like butter, Joe...now it's like what to do with it next??? Shoot the snot out of it, make 'A' or M, then when bored sell it to me!

  7. What grip are those? Operator 2s? Just ordered some VZ grips, and can't wait to put them on my ranger 2!
  8. The fact that this happens on the first or second round seems to flag this as a mag issue, IMHO. I agree with others suggesting a longer load, but, it sounds like the OAL isn't an issue past the first or second round...right?
  9. Have you tried leaving the mags loaded for a few weeks? Let the springs settle a little maybe, that could help. Does it happen on less than fully loaded mags? I really want to make a car analogy somehow...like making e a Ferrari run 87 octane unleaded just because you have a few barrels, then trying to solve the engine timing issues. Buy some new gas! I'll second Jimmy....but... Is it likely that you'll buy the same bullets after you shoot this batch? Or will you find a new load? If you're married to this round, set the gun up for it...but to me it sounds like throwing good money after bad! If Virgil couldn't make it sing, sell the bullets...I know there are many good smiths out there, but he's certainly one of the best on a 1911.
  10. Honestly, you wouldn't be able to sell it separately for the value it adds to the package...that would need to be refitted to someone else's gun, and would likely cost them even more than just getting what they needed in the first place. How many .45 mags do you have, what size, and are they tuned at all? I may be interested in those if they'll fit a Tactical!
  11. Same here...crisp 4# on the .45 ranger 2. I've always heard that going lighter than 4# on a carry gun can really open you up to legal issues. Sure, you may have a justifiable self defense, but that doesn't prevent civil suits! Thankfully, North Carolina has enacted protection from civil suits by the bad guy or his family in the event of a justifiable defensive shooting. This came in the same time as the new castle doctrine and the removal of the need to retreat. We have something similar in Florida - keep in mind, however, that these laws do not prevent civil suits from being brought against you. They can make the suit go away quicker, but that's after the fact!

  13. Except you'd still be scored Minor. I'll take boring .40 Major, thank you. So Limited guns are limited to being .40 to .45 bore to shoot MAJOR? If a smaller caliber is used, less points are available? Did i get this right? Sorry for the stupid question. Not a stupid question; it's not easy to find this info when starting out. For limited, .40 is the minimum bullet to make major. In open, it's 9mm.
  14. Brazos and shooters connection are both great, from the feedback that's been posted. I bought my ranger 2 and tactical from Dawson Precision, and both experiences were great. The ranger was dawson tuned, and is amazing. The tactical was on sale with free tritium night sights, and shipped within a week of ordering. Outside of price, I think it really only matters if you want work done to it in the future. Not sure about brazos, but Dawson only works on guns that he sells.
  15. I would keep it. Hell, I'll even offer to keep it for you! A full size 1911 is gun perfection, and unless you absolutely had to sell it, my vote is to hold on. You have a lot of options on what division to shoot now, and like others have said, you've put some time into it already. Keep it for a year, and then revisit the idea.
  16. LOL my philosophy and my vote. After I bought a Ranger 2, I had to sell my Glock, end of story. Now I have a Tactical .45 for Limited 10 - I just have no interest in shooting the .40 "Short & Weak" and if I ever did go to a .400 barrel it would be for the 10mm. Hmmm...Perfect 10 for Limited? Maybe in a couple years...ok, back on topic... I shot and loved my Glock for years; it just runs like a champ, mags are cheap, add-ons are everywhere, etc. Tried the XDm 5.25 and just did not like the way it sighted, felt in the hand, trigger...Not sure, but I just didn't care for it one bit. If you like Glock, stick with Glock for now. Since you brought up reloading, it took all of 15 minutes for me to find a used dillon Square Deal B in the classifieds, got it for $280. Just post that you want to buy one, it's that simple! Then, hit up Midway for a tumbler, scale, calipers, bullet puller, chamber checker, primer flipper and you are set to reload for under $500. Granted, you'll need powder, bullets and primers, plus time, but hey...it's the way to go and where you'll want to be someday, anyways. Still, my vote is either Glock, or check the classifieds for a 2011...they really are as sweet as you think, and the first time shooting one is almost a religious experience Seriously, the first time out with my Tactical, I put 300 rounds through it grinning like a mad man the whole time...best 30 minutes of my life The mags...yeah...those aren't cheap. So my new vote is save up another $500, sell your Glocks, organs, pets, etc. because it is soooooooo worth it.
  17. Congrats on retiring, and that's an awesome gift!
  18. Joel I still can't believe the great deal...I'm thinking Matt will get the call when it's time to lighten and chrome the tactical
  19. Will it be an amazing gun? No question! Could you get a Ranger 2 for carry and an Edge for competitive shooting for the same money? Well, yes you can! Personally, I would love to own a Wilson / NHC some day, but I decided to buy the Ranger 2 for carry and a Tactical for competition / house gun (I happen to prefer the .45 round, so the Tactical is for L10). Honestly, I've handled the high end 1911's and I really don't feel like I'm missing *much* when I pick up my Ranger right after. For close to $3k, you can have two SWEET guns, mags, pouches, etc. And while the Ranger 2 is a 4.15in barrel, it shoots and sights nicely out to 25 yards and I have a lot of fun with it at the range. Now the Tactical is just a silly amount of fun to shoot, but that's another thread. Bassman pretty much nailed it, but I thought I would chime in. If you want to shoot single stack competitively, he's dead on. If you want to play in Limited, then you can get an Edge or Eagle AND your carry gun, and have lots and lots of fun.
  20. Does a lightened slide have any other impact on maintenance? More buildup around the barrel and slide? I guess it looks like those holes combined with oil would create a dirt / dust magnet.
  21. Like, once a year? Or do you base it off of the amount you are shooting?
  22. It's on the 4th. Hmm, maybe somebody has a rig for you to use. Anyways, you can come hangout and ask questions to get a few ideas on what to buy. We also have RedDot which has belts, holsters, pouches in stock. Johnathan who owns the shop is super informative and will be able to help you make the right choices. He will most likely be at the Match too. Is this at the Titusville Rifle and Pistol club? Match from 9-3? I'll need to see what's going on for Saturday, but if I can make it I'll post back here. Thanks again! I love these boards...just great people!
  23. Lakeland...moved here 8 months ago for a new job The job ROCKS...Lakeland? But, I like that I'm close to Tampa and Orlando.
  24. Pistol, Rifle, Shotgun...Machine gun? Grenade Launcher? Whatever this mysterious 4th weapon is, in my mind, it's extra fun!
  25. Titusville on the 4th or the 11th? I've been buying in to the sport in stages, and have yet to secure a belt, mag pouches, and a holster...I guess I have a Mitch Rosen leather holster that could work though, and a good leather belt...either way, it would be cool to see a match either way. Thanks!
