-JQ-
how about the mini- clubman with a little longer wheelbase?
cryptoprocta
One of my Bosses has the Cooper Works edition that's apparently super-tuned. He traded his Cayman for it and hasn't complained about the switch at all.
38supPat
Do not....DO NOT...buy one with a CVT. They are fragile and expensive and have a history of problems, buy the 6 speed and you'll be happy. My wife had a Cooper and it was a really great little car until we started having problems...then it got real bad.
Matt Cheely
We ordered one today, Steptronic transmission... I didn't think it was a CVT?
Neomet
Yep, sorry Matt.... that is the CVT. As Pat said the 6 speed is much better. Got the package. Thanks man!

38supPat
Ahhh It'll run fine until you take it for the first transmission flush...at 45,000km...after that, good luck!
Matt Cheely
Maybe I'll just not change the trans fluid.
38supPat
It's probably not a big deal, you'll have to change the tranny soon enough and they only go for $11,
38supPat
This is typical of most years: http://www.northamericanmotoring.com/forums/stock-problems-issues/173082-cvt-transmission-woe.html North American Motoring is probably the best Mini forum for anything you need to know
Matt Cheely
Well if that happens, then I'm swapping in a 6 speed. Ha, just read that it would be 14K for a manual swap. I guess we hope that the new cars have a better trans. Edited June 29, 2010 by Matt Cheely
bdpaz
On the bright side, working CVTs are cool. Had a Nissan and then a Lexus with CVTs and I liked them, particularly when going up hill. They just dial in the necessary gear ratio to keep the engine in its best rpm range.
Matt Cheely
We drove a Subaru that was like that, but the Mini was actually shifting "gears", couldn't tell it was a CVT.

Aircooled6racer
Hello: We had the Mini Cooper S and now we have a Jetta diesel. The Jetta gets between 50-60 MPG on the highway at 80 MPH It is fun to drive as well and you can put it in sport mode and spin the tires at the lights when it turns green. I love doing that to Prius's Look at Mini Madness stuff. It will be a great car for you. Thanks, Eric
Tiny Warrior
Well, like Matt said, we ordered one! Views/opinions from people I've asked, searches on the internet & of course, people here, made me make the decision to get one. As to the issues that may arise with the transmission, well I can't worry too much about it. Many cars have their issues & I want to enjoy it! I'll post pictures when I get it....in 6 weeks

Tiny Warrior
They discontinued the CVT trans in Mini's in 2007. Which was probably a good thing....
Tiny Warrior
So here she is! I've had it for less than 24 hours & I love it! Couldn't get to sleep last night I was so excited, hehe.
