  1. I've had a lot of fun shooting the Hi-Power.......in fact it is my favorite Browning designed firearm after the 1919A4. Cylinder and Slide makes some quality aftermarket parts for the gun......used guns can be found at reasonable prices.......hi-cap magazines are inexpensive and reliable...... Given the pointability and low muzzle flip inherent in the Hi-Power design I think it can be a very competitive gun in ESP division.
  2. Let's see Austin.......that's TWO Glocks, a perfectly good Springfield, and TWO SVI's that have been sacrificed in your quest to make A Limited. I dub thee The Annihilator.........in your hands no gun is safe.
  3. Couldn't agree more.......drawing prize tables stink. Let the best shooter win......they usually practice the most and deserve it anyway.

    CM 99-44

Fastest way to shoot this stage that I have witnessed is to use knee pads and spin on one knee.......probably isn't the designers original intent......I will probably try it that way if I run across this one again. Never have shot this one up to my ability........
  5. Unfortunately Beven has been talking about a tungsten mag well for the Glock for quite a while.......I asked him about it last October and got the impression that it was more of an engineering challenge than he expected. Beven does fantastic work and I'll be one of the first to put in an order, but in the meantime I'm not holding my breath.......
  6. Calling it a slide lock vs. slide release is drilled into anyone going thru a Glock armorers course.......Why?.....cuz that's the way Gaston wants it.
  7. I belong to the Western Nevada Pistol League in Reno. Last year our PR director started a Production Pistol Series to help bring new shooters into the club and raise revenue. It has been an outstanding success. Last month we had 49 non club members attend this match which consists of four relatively simple yet challenging stages. The rules and equipment requirements are minimal to encourage the faint of heart and weak of wallet to participate. We have on average 10 to 15 regular club members who show up to RO the match and give as much help as possible. They then shoot their own side match using carry or self defense oriented firearms........or in my case a suppressed, full-auto Cobray M-11 on one occassion. How did we get the incredible turnout? By blitzing local gun stores with high quality flyers, talking with local concealed carry instructors who recommended it to their students, and by getting the area newspaper to do a story. We found sponsors to cover prizes for C class winners and have plaques for those that move up in class. We also post match results within one day of the match to keep up enthusiasm and encourage healthy competition. This has led to a steady increase in the number of new club members and has rejuvenated what was a somewhat stagnant club. You can check out the results and pics at our web site.....http://nnsuspsa.com/nnsuspsa.htm
  8. I played with the Lightning Strike trigger for about 2 months.......never really grew to like it. It does shorten the length of pull a bit, and it may have been a tad crisper.......Would've liked a trigger safety with a contour more closely matching the trigger's contour. Went back to my mildly tweeked o.e.m. unit.......which still needs work.

    Glock magwell

I've been using a THE Accessories mag well for about 9 months now.......very pleased with the quality. The brass model adds weight to the frame and gives my G35 a more substantial feel. I also like the fact that the grip is not constricted by the well and that all my mags will still drop free. And you can't ignore the cool color on an otherwise black gun.......terribly pimp!

    Forum Nomenclature

Brian.... Any name for the guy who is always bothering/bugging the forum administrator????? FORUM PEST perhaps......
  11. Shot as a B Limited shooter on Jan. 7th 2001.......6.59 seconds, 49 points, 7.4355 hit factor, 78.268%. Love those classifiers with movement.......
  12. Chris--- My best advice is to move to open class when you can afford to do it right. Jumping into what is probably the most competitive class in USPSA with a gun that will hold you back is a bad idea. This may mean holding off for longer than you would like, but I think you would be happier in the end. Me personally......I like chasing Open shooters with my Limited gun......getting to where I can beat 98% of ALL shooters with a limited gun, like Taran Butler does on a regular basis, is my goal......for now.
  13. Most people shy away from the S&W series because of the difficult to master double action pull on the Smith......I haven't talked to many gunsmiths who are experienced at tuning them either, unlike the Beretta.......the reset on the single action is possibly the best of the bunch on an out of the box gun though........some have also questioned the durability of the Smith autopistols when you get into the tens of thousands of rounds.......because of the lower hand position on the gun they seem to have a bit more muzzle flip than the Glock and Beretta models......they tend to have short barrels and as a result a shorter sight radius than competing guns which makes them harder to shoot accurately at longer distances...... Just some reasons that jumped into my tired little mind......FWIW.
  14. Guys--- When I shoot this one again I won't feel like I have to get off every shot in order to get a M classifier. All 6 on string one freestyle is no problem, maybe 4/5 on the strong hand string with no mikes or no-shoots, and 3 solid A zone hits on the weak hand string. Unlike many classifiers you don't get any extra time on the strong and weak hand stages on this one. A new shooter feels like he has to push it and get the shots off to get a great score. I crashed because of mikes in the hard cover and 1 or 3 no-shoots. I also didn't have a good handle on the concept of no penalty mikes at the time.......thought I'd be penalized for any shots I didn't take......pays to do a little research beforehand.
  15. Well......since I put up two classifiers I was pretty happy with.......here is one I really FUBAR'ed. Hoser Heaven is shot at 12 yards and has lots of no shoots and some hard cover. There are three strings and each one is timed. Needless to say I went for speed over hits........and crashed and burned....... I shot this in August of '00 when I was trying to get classified so it was a good learning experience.......speed isn't always your friend when no shoots are in abundance. Got all my shots off though...... Unclassified limited, 22 pts, 24.444% classifier.......
  16. The last 3-Gun Nationals had a 275 yard popper stage that began with a run while shooting paper at 15 yards. I definitely changed apertures on the fly because there was plenty of time to do it while getting to the long range firing ports. Can't say I've ever had the need before or since. Get some good quality 30 round mags while they are still widely available. Lousy mags are the number one reason why AR's go down in competition. Hit AR-15.com to find out which ones work and which ones will leave you whining. I use a 50 yard zero also to take advantage of the flat trajectory at typical competition distances. I shoot Black Hills 68gr molycoated ammo exclusively.
  17. Eric--- Thanks for the advice.......I think I've heard that one before...... I've got to remember to stop sandbagging classifiers at clubs that never bother to send them in.......should help my overall results at the end of the day.
  18. B-Diddy--- In the long run I think you will appreciate the advantages of the ghost ring sight for 3-gun shooting. The ability to aim precisely comes in handy on slug stages with hard cover and no-shoots. The ghost rings when used properly will be just as fast as a bead on steel and static clay targets. The only time I might prefer a bead, or no sight at all, would be moving targets and aerial clays. Then all my attention is on the moving target and everything else is just a distraction. Go with a barrel in the 18" to 22" range. They tend to be quick enough for those stages with lots of prone/kneeling positions and tight ports. IMHO anything longer seems unwieldy and tends to overswing on quick transitions. I'm no 1100 expert as I am solidly in the Benelli camp, but I might think about a set of Trac-lok ghost ring sights of the type found on Scattergun Technologies/Wilson shotguns. They seem simple and bulletproof. Hopefully some 1100 shooters will chime in with suggestions. Good luck.
  19. This was in Limited......my first Master classifier.
  20. This one combined some of my favorite elements in a stage.....like turning and drawing to paper....and shooting at steel on a dead run. Time was 13.89 with 71 points for a hit factor of 5.1116......85.909%. Shot on 11-19-00. http://www.uspsa.org/classifiers/cm99-38.pdf
  21. Shot this classifier on 4-1-01, April Fool's Day......86.296%......no foolin'. 59 points in 8.06 seconds for a hit factor of 7.3201. Oh yeah......with a Glock. Just made A Limited when I shot this one. Gun is a mildly tweaked Glock 35.....AKA--the "Pimp Glock". (Edited by icer at 12:46 am on July 21, 2001)
  22. Kelly--- When was the last time they actually chronographed anyone at the 3-Gun Nationals? I shot the last two and no one was collecting rounds or pulling bullets. Do they just hit up the top competitors or have they been slacking? Just curious......
  23. Flex--- If your gun will run them I recommend either Remington Reduced Recoil or Federal Tactical slugs in a 2 3/4" chambering. They both are easy on the shoulder and also tend to group better than their more stout big brothers. Modified should be a perfect choice for slugs but you can never know for sure unless you take the time to sight in with each load. Know where the gun shoots at 3, 10, 25, and 50 yards. Obviously for slugs a ghost ring sight would be preferable but you can get by with a bead. Just not as easy to make tough shots with confidence. If you get a chance pick up an extended tube to up your capacity. A good shop will probably install it for you if you buy from them, or DIY. A 16 round stage will go by a lot faster if you only have to reload once. Good luck.....
  24. Flex--- I'd probably add a KKM comped barrel, Harrts rod, THE mag well, melted Bo-Mars, and play with the trigger. Might have the slide lightened up a bit also. Nothing too radical, similar to what I'm running for USPSA Limited now....except in 9mm. For some reason I just haven't warmed up to optics yet.....still like the irons......young eyes.....and I would be able to shoot more classes in our local man on man matches. The 34 would be a bit flatter shooting than the 35 I run now, especially since my .40 load made 181 pf at Area 1. Course the steel went down fast.......same load I use for Steel Challenge type matches......Glocks and ridiculous power factors, I should probably put hobbles on for those really long stages.... Ross--- Just curious.....what about the 34 didn't you like? Always looking for differing opinions......

    Area 1

Duane--- Nice meeting you at Area 1......sorry we didn't get a chance to talk more but I was mentally exhausted and trying to keep up with my shooting partners who were looking to get their gear packed. Hope you had a good match......it was quite an eye opener for me as it was my first big USPSA pistol match. I actually ended up with a 2nd in A class in Limited. Trying to give the big boys a run for their money with my piece of plastic. Hey Pat---- Was that the second door on Outland you assaulted? I was watching the super squad and it must have been you I heard inside the "teleporter" bulling his way through. The super squad really attacked those doors.......
