  1. He was told to holster, which he did. Then the MD told him what the issue was and the MD continued the discussion with the RO. At some point, the shooter thought he was DQ'd and left the box. Upon learning he could still shoot, he returned to the box and was told to make ready. When he charged the slide, a round flew out, as he had not cleared before leaving the box. That's when he was DQ'd.
  2. I assumed he's the match director. Signs people in, gives the squads their tablets, timers, pasters, etc... seemingly the guy in charge of the match.
  3. I think part of the problem was that the MD was also giving instruction to the RO over the bending over situation. And the MD said it looked like he had swept himself, but since the RO didn't call it, that there was no DQ... I think?? In any event, as the MD was discussing it with the RO, the shooter left the box thinking his day was over without being giving instructions to make his firearm safe.
  4. I was loading and didn't see the first part of what eventually became a DQ for a new competitor. I hear WHOA and look up to see the shooter in the box leaning down and picking something up. The match director, who was seated and watching the action, called for the stoppage and told the competitor to holster. Apparently, the shooter had dropped something on the ground at make ready and was picking it up before starting his course of fire. And he bent over with gun in hand to pick up the item. In the course of doing so, the match director felt that he had swept himself. Everyone was confused as to what happened and the shooter must have thought he was disqualified because he left the shooting box. Another shooter shot the course of fire and the new shooter learned he was not DQ'd and could come back and start over. At make ready, he charged the slide, and a round ejected. During the confusion over the bending over sequence earlier, he had followed the orders and holstered. And, during the discussions, had never been instructed to clear the pistol. So, he had left the shooting box with a live round in the chamber. May have had the loaded mag in the whole time as well. So, at his point, he was DQ'd for unsafe handling or something of that nature. Tough deal for a new competitor. My guess is he will probably not come back. Because I missed the initial part of what happened, I tried to discuss with another shooter in our squad and figure our what had happened. This guy obviously felt that it was a big fiasco and packed up and left.
  5. This year's mode of the Under Armour baseball turf has a more aggressive pattern than the previous model. Almost like the golf shoes that come with small rubber spikes. Basic black or a variety of colors. https://www.eastbay.com/product/~/23000002.html?source=shoppingads&locale=en-US&SID=7726&inceptor=1&cm_mmc=paid search-_-google-_-g-_-PLA-_-DPA-_--_-P-_-Prospecting-_--_-9239169973-_--_-96614061031-_-PLA-_-23000002-10.0-_--_--_-&gclid=CjwKCAjww-CGBhALEiwAQzWxOi7GMIKsEbiYWAfZ8KFgO14FuWiOf6QDX5eH6skW--VVsZt3iNLwXhoC7ToQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds
  6. I purchased both a Shadow 2 and an SP01 within a month of each other. My plan was to shoot Production and the SP01 was going to be my back-up gun to the Shadow 2. The SP01 was sent to CJ Maven for his Villain trigger work and it greatly lightened the trigger. However, I still preferred the feel of the S2 trigger and overall shot it better than the SP01. I later went to a 13lb hammer spring for the S2 which lightened up the trigger a bit but not to the level of SP01 with the trigger work. I've now gone to an 11.5lb hammer spring and find the two triggers comparable as far as pull weight.
  7. One of the local matches I shoot at currently has very low attendance. I shot there at the first of the year and there were 9 total shooters. I signed up there again for this weekend and their numbers are very low again. It's convenient as it is just over an hour to drive and they run a good match. However, there are only 3 in my division and none in my classification. There is another local match 2 hours away that is nearly full with around 80 entries. There are 32 in my division and 4 in my classification. I've never gone there because the other match is an hour closer. It seems as if I attend the small match, then it's live match practice. Whereas, if I attend the larger match, I can make a more realistic judgement of how I did against competition. Is that a correct assessment?
  8. OK, I'll throw in a little something here. Due to various reasons, I didn't shoot or dry fire from January until this month (June). Prior to the end of January, I was shooting and competing with a dot regularly. Meaning 3-4 competitions per month, plus dry fire with a dot, and 3-4 range sessions per month with both dot and irons. For the most part, the dot had become instinctive, however, I would always lose the dot on one or two arrays per match. I recently shot my first match since January and I could tell the layoff from the dot and competition had really hurt my reaction time. I never lost the dot, but I was a tad slow to trust it and let the shot go down range. What that tells me is that if you do use a dot on a carry pistol, you better train with it regularly, meaning shooting at the range, dry fire, and competition or regular training. Otherwise, you may be slow to trust what your eyes and mind are telling you. On another note, one of the shooters at the competition is a law enforcement officer. He was joking around with one of the PCC guys about running a dot on his carry pistol. Basically, he told him that the dot was good for competition but could get you shot in a combat situation. And that was why you need to run irons on your carry pistol. It sounded like a continuation of an ongoing conversation and the two were kidding each other.
  9. O.K., OP here. I've removed the Swampfox. I may purchase another optic later and try it out. Thanks.
  10. Swampfox is back in the box and the cover plate is back on the Hellcat. I may try another dot on it at some point, but I'm much happier with that dot off of the pistol.
  11. Recently had my Shadow 2 milled for the Holosun so I had to zero again. Put the dot on the x at 5 yards and I was a little low and right. Quick adjustment and dead on. Kept moving the target back, made minor adjustments and was good at 15 yards. Easy. I'll shoot again with my son and let him get a feel if he thinks it's zeroed accurately. The Swampfox + Hellcat was a different story. The little tool was hard to use. Acceptable for windage but nearly impossible for elevation. Kept worrying that I was going to strip the heads. Borrowed a screwdriver from the RO and got it where I wanted at 10 yards and shot it out to 12 yards. I was pretty sure the dot was just above the front sight as I dialed it in. Got home, and practiced from low ready to various points. The dot was impossible to find above the front sight??? It was now high right. So, I'm not sure what happened? Perhaps I turned the pistol at an angle on the bench to make the dot float above the front sight or adjusted my grip? In any event, after I had it where I wanted I shot freehand and made hits. So, I'm not sure where I went wrong. Zeroing is a tedious process and not nearly as fun as just shooting. But, it's pretty frustrating to think that I wasted time and ammo and I'm still not zeroed. Dealing with the tool was such a frustrating process that my initial thoughts are eBay it and be rid of it.
  12. Anyone running a red dot for competition but still use irons for your carry pistol? I'm using a Holosun 407 for USPSA carry optics on my Shadow 2. And I purchased a Swampfox Sentinel for my Springfield Hellcat. I thought I had the Swampfox zeroed but when I got home from the range the dot is not where I thought it should be - high and right. Thought I was co-witnessed and dialed in, but apparently not. I'm beginning to wonder if the dot should be used for games and the irons for short range self defense.
  13. I seem to screw up when practicing reloads in dry fire. Usually hitting the mag on one side or the other. But, in matches, I seem to do ok. Not great, but better than in dry fire. I’ve previously practiced reloads with empty mags. Today, I loaded up a couple of mags to about 3/4 and topped them off with snap caps. The added weight really made the difference. I was able to guide the mag in place nearly every time without issue. I think the weight will allow me be more consistent in practice and improve speed.
  14. Ha! I was at a match last weekend and a guy in my squad was shooting with a 6 shot revolver. It seemed to be no fun at all, but he was a big talker and seemed to enjoy telling match stories more than shooting. He had a blast. Clay shooting and a shotgun purchase are on hold for now. I had some available cash to spend and instead of a shotgun for clays, I’m spending it in this order: 1. Red dot for my carry pistol 2. Steve Anderson’s first book on dry firing 3. Pocket Pro II shot timer 4. Lyman Digital trigger gauge 5. Optics slide milling for my Shadow 2
  15. I added I added the CGW 11.5lb hammer spring, the extended firing pin with softer spring, and an 11lb recoil spring to my S2 last week. It has ignited all the factory ammo I’ve tried so far. My Shadow 2’s trigger internals have not been polished and the only changes have been the addition of a 13lb spring and now the 11.5lb spring. I figure as much as I fire and dry fire, the trigger components will smooth out on their own, maybe/maybe not in comparison to polishing???? I compared my S2 trigger to my SPO1 trigger which has been worked on my CJ Maven. The SP01 trigger is estimated at around 7lb +/- in DA and 3lbs in SA. With the 13lb hammer spring in my S2, the worked SP01 trigger was lighter in both DA and SA. Now, with the 11.5lb spring in the S2, the DA in the S2 is lighter. I would estimate the SA is around the same weight. I’m placing an order for a shot timer with BSPS today, and I’ll add the 10lb Ultimate hammer spring to my order and try it out.
  16. Typically take 250 rounds to a match and most list 150-175 rounds per match. So, I always have extra rounds. In the last couple of months, the local matches are now running 125-135 rounds per match. So, I only took 200 rounds with me to my last match. And of course, this match had a round count of around 160. So, I was still good, or so I thought. I ended up having two reshoots. The first was no big deal as I would have had enough ammo to finish. But the second one was going to leave me short. But my carry pistol, a little SA Hellcat and extra mag were in my vehicle. With 11+1 in the pistol plus the extended mag with 13, I had 25 hollow points still available. I ended up finishing the match without having to drop out or borrow ammo. Lesson learned. Take more than you think you’ll need. And make sure you have your carry pistol and an extra mag just in case.
  17. Don’t know if anyone noticed or not. I’m assuming no hit on target either time, but I didn’t look. I can only assume they hit the ground.
  18. That’s kind of what I thought as well. But, I’m still fairly new to shooting as a whole and the type of malfunctions that can occur. I have had 2 squibs where the bullet was stuck in the chamber previously. Never had one that exited the barrel.
  19. As I’ve mentioned in other threads this week, I just switched out my Shadow 2’s hammer spring for an 11.5lb from CGW along with the extended firing pin. I tried it out with different factory ammo earlier this week including 100 rounds of CCI Blazer Brass. All fired with no issues. Today I shot a match and took 124gr Blazer to shoot. Twice I had “squib like” occurrences, both deep into stages. Both times, I pulled the trigger, heard the tell tale pssst sound, followed by the RO telling me to stop. Both times there were no rounds lodged in the chamber. The guys in my squad believed it to be a squib that exited the barrel in both instances. The consensus was that ammo companies are cranking out ammo so fast that quality control is down. My concern was that it could have been a light strike that didn’t ignite the primer enough to fire the round completely. However, light primers usually go click. And squibs go click...pssst. Based on this info, does it sound like a squib that exited?

The thin bogies arrived after I went to the range this week. But they feel very good dry firing. Probably should have done this already but I really like the thin feel of the originals. I will try them out in live fire at a match tomorrow with highs in the mid 30’s They should be a welcome addition over the aluminum grips which feel very chilly in cold weather.
  21. Are you running the extended firing pin?
  22. Just replaced my 13lb Cajun Gun Works hammer spring on my Shadow 2 with the 11.5lb CGW spring. I also dropped from a 13lb recoil spring to an 11lb recoil spring. I added the extended firing pin and softer firing pin spring. Went to the range this morning and ran factory ammo: CCI Blazer Brass, Aguila, and a few Winchesters without a failure.
  23. Back from the range. No issues through 125 rounds. Ran 50 rounds of Blazer 115, 50 rounds of Blazer 124, 20 rounds of Aguila 124, and 5 rounds of Winchester White Box 115. Live fire felt the same as dry fire. The double action felt a bit lighter, but if there was any difference in the single action, it wasn’t much. Or not enough for me to really notice.
  24. Going to the range this morning. I have been running a 13lb hammer spring, 13lb recoil spring, and factory firing pin/spring in my Shadow 2. It has ran without issue in this configuration with all factory ammo that I’ve tried. Last night I installed the 11.5lb hammer spring, an 11lb recoil spring, and the extended firing pin and softer spring. Will be running CCI Blazer Brass 115 and 124 grain this morning. If it doesn’t set those off, I’ll try some different factory ammo. After installation, the DA felt lighter. As for the SA? Maybe... a little lighter. I don’t have a gauge to test. But, the switch seemed to have a bigger difference on the DA pull.
