  1. Question: Do Limited Major shooters drop to Limited Minor at full Classifier matches? It seems to me that higher level shooters - A or M, could gain an advantage by shooting 9mm to move up a ranking. Especially if you had a gun set up very similarly to your .40.
  2. I’m sort of jumping around right now. My last 2 matches have been Limited Minor, but I’ve got a classifier match coming up and I registered for Limited and then switched back to Production. My guess is that I’ll end up in Carry Optics or Limited. I’ve read that Production is really not a class for beginners and I sort of see that. In fact, it seems that the Beginner’s Class in USPSA is Limited Minor. I purchased sights and baseplates today to upgrade my stock Glock 22 and make it more user friendly for Limited Major. So, I plan to jump around a bit more in the coming weeks.
  3. I agree on the magwell, but I’m doing a cheap out version. I just bought sights and basepads to get this 22 ready for Limited. But I only bought two basepads, so a large/heavy magwell would only work for the extended mags. I’m planning to run the regular 15 round mags as backups and load mags. The plug was sort of an afterthought to add weight and was only $29. Another option would be a cheap Amazon rail light with the light removed. I’m basically doing this for fun and to compare shooting Limited major with a Glock versus Limited minor with a CZ.
  4. I’m about to start a barebones USPSA Limited upgrade for my Glock 22. I just ordered sights and a couple of extended basepads. Considering a grip plug for added weight. Anyone use the Thug Plug from the Glockstore?
  5. Well, there’s only so much you say about an oily mag! I’m in the Charlotte area and can find several matches each month within an hour. RDU is a three hour drive. You mentioned using your G19 for Carry Optics and your S2 for Limited, and that if you move to Production, you could use your S2. Curious as to why you wouldn’t try your S2 in Carry Optics? Seems like a lot of shooters like their polymer, striker fired pistols in the CO division.
  6. Had he shot Major, he probably would have won the limited class and placed 2nd overall to the first place who shot open. At least according to the Practiscore What If feature. I’ve messed around with the feature and if I had shot Major I might have moved up a spot in class and a spot or two in Overall. But, as a bottom half shooter, it’s really a moot point until I improve from where I’m currently at. Interesting, 13 in Production, but 11 out of 23 Limited shooters shooting Minor. Limited Minor is a class unto itself at that match.
  7. The old M&P’s used to auto forward, the 2.0’s are made not to do that. For competition where you go to slide lock (IDPA), it’s a good feature. If you shoot a lot of make-up shots in Production, Limited 10, SS, and always reload on the move, it’s a good feature for USPSA. I saw a guy shooting Production last night who regulary shot make-ups, went to slide lock, and reloaded on the move, Didn’t seem to hurt his time or accuracy. I know of one defensive/tactical instructor who always recommends an over the top slingshot for every reload after slidelock, even if the pistol autoforwards. His reasoning is that you can’t guarantee that the auto forward chambered a round. So, even if the slide goes forward, he automatically racks over the top, almost always ejecting a chambered round. He wants the muscle memory of the over the top slingshot to be ingrained every time.
  8. Yeah, I’ve had three shooters tell me to get the basepads, load up to 23 and just go with my Shadow 2 in Limited Minor. But, I’m on the fence on what I plan to do. I thought it was Production, but in reality it will likely come down to Carry Optics or Limited with a .40. If I end up going carry optics, then having the basepads, followers and springs; it will have been a good investment. But, if I go the .40 route, then I’ll need to do it all over again with mags for another pistol. But, if you’re going to throw money at something, it should be something you really like. At this point, I’ll stick with the SP-01 18 rounders. I should be able to get through most stages with 37 rounds and only one reload.
  9. I’ve ordered the 17 rounders before but they are hard to find right now. So, I ordered a couple of 16 rounders and they arrived in the plastic packet. As soon as I pulled them out, I found they had a sheen of oil on the outside that I wiped off with a paper towel. I used them as loader mags and back up mags last night and when I unloaded them, the rounds had a bit of oil on them and the followers were shiny wet with oil. I’ve never received mags that were covered in oil, inside and out. Is this normal?
  10. Decided to try Limited instead of Production last night and here are my thoughts. I was faster and it was nice to only have to chase one mag. I’ve been trying to concentrate on one main thing and that is going faster. Last night I added one more thing and that was trying to present the gun up at the target when arriving at the shooting point. Although that addition is really about going faster. Shot way more mikes than usual. As it turned out, I added another twist, using the safety instead of a DA start with my Shadow 2. Not sure that was a good idea but I was going to have to learn at some point. I’m signed up Saturday for an outdoor and I’ll stick with Limited Minor again. At this point, I’m just trying to improve and go faster. Used my SP-01 mags for 19 at the start with an 18 round reload. Never reloaded more than once all night.
  11. I know nothing about slide milling or machining. When looking at options, I see that the slide can be re-finished, or I can do it myself, or have it done. So, is this just the area of the slide that was cut for the optic, or does the whole slide need to be re-finished. And as far as refinishing, can it just be a coat of paint, or is it more involved? Secondly, I see options to media blast or not media blast. Is it better to have done, or not done? I really don't know what is involved and the pros and cons. If I have a slide milled, it will only be for competition and range. Any need for sights? Some milling options end up removing the rear dovetail. I would prefer not to do that in case I want to go back to iron sights. But, it seems like with some dots, that is required. Not really a question, just wondering why.
  12. Did the trigger work include the short reset disconnector installation? I had him do the Villain trigger package on my SP-01 and I’m very happy with the results. I didn’t have him do the short reset disconnector and don’t know how much of a difference it would make. But, I’m considering sending my Shadow 2 for work in the future.
  13. How did the dovetail mount work out? Which mounting plate did you use? EGW, etc.... Did the FF3 work reliably? Did it sit high? Could you get it to zero reliably?
  14. And I didn't know what I was getting into. I planned to go fast and then realized they were scoring like IDPA. So, on the first stage, I started out fast. But the targets were fairly close, it was a bright day and I could see the holes. And then I started slowing down mid-stage to make better shots. And then it dawned on me that this match didn't matter for anything, and what I needed to work on was going fast. So, I ran through the remaining stages fast and didn't worry about scoring. So, if I go back to this match, I'm just going to try and blow through it as fast as possible.

    TS/TSO vs. 2011

Seems like you'd only need two with basepads. If you need a 3rd mag to get through a stage, the 17 rounders should be plenty. Assuming you didn't add the larger magwell.
  16. It was all good. It was actually called a defensive pistol match. And it was designed to get members of the club into practical shooting. There were about 5 competition shooters, a group of 8 or so that shoot regularly but not competitions, and a group of 3 older folks who were new to shooting altogether. Those 3 required a lot of guidance. The concept of the match was good and it was good practice for me. The match generally followed a USPSA format for rules, but it was scored like an IDPA match. I will probably only shoot that match again if my son wants to do it.
  17. Was at a local match that followed USPSA rules but wasn't an actual USPSA match. However, they followed Production or IDPA mag limits. My son was also shooting and we both had a starter mag that we loaded to 11. The other mags had 10. On one stage, we were required to deload all mags to 8 rounds. Except he forgot to deload his starter mag. He tooks some extra shots and ended up going to slide lock on the 11th round, reloaded and finished the stage. Pretty sure he deloaded one of his 10 round mags to 7, thinking it was his starter mag. However, the RO's didn't count or weren't paying attention. When I asked him about it, he had no idea as he wasn't counting or thinking about it. At that point, I wasn't sure what had happened since no one seemed to notice.

    TS/TSO vs. 2011

How big a deal would that be? Starting most stages with 17+1 with a 17 round reload? Would it be that much of a disadvantage versus those with extended baseplates? I'm guessing most with extended would start with 20+1 with a 20 round reload, or maybe 21 in a mag?
  19. I put the green in on Friday and it really popped outside in the sunlight. Indoors, I don't know if there was much difference. Shot a match on Saturday and noticed it was very bright in the safe area. Then, when the timer went off, I never through about it again or noticed it. At the end, I went to the safe area and thought, wow, this green is really bright and wondered if it helped during the match. I'll shoot an indoor match on Thursday and see what I think about it in darker conditions.

    TS/TSO vs. 2011

How do the CZ Tactical Sport and TSO compare to 2011 Limited guns in .40 S&W.? From my standpoint, the CZ's seem easier to use for the person who doesn't want to work on their guns, mags or reload. Just shoot the CZ's out of of the box using factory ammo. The one add on would be a couple of basepads to increase capacity, but no mag tuning. And cost wise, the CZ's seem cheaper than most 2011's. First, are my assumptions correct? Secondly, why do so many Limited shooters choose a 2011?
  21. I really like this video where she shows how she compares to the stage winner. Excellent video.
  22. Another YouTube channel of interest is MTG Firearms. Gregory Fiddes has several videos shooting Limited Minor and winning. I’ve seen at least one comment asking “why minor” with no response. I guess if you can win Limited shooting Minor there’s no need to run .40.
  23. Yes, Singleton is fun to watch. I had seen one of his videos previously. Also, I can find plenty of Production Class videos of Ben Berry and Ben Stoeger.
  24. Nope, I was simply entering my member number. I’ve now logged in with member # and password and the calculator now works. Thanks.
  25. I tried but it tells me I must login to use that feature. I had already logged in with my member number so I’m not sure what the issue is there?
