Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. I carry a 442 No-lock on a daily basis, have the past 4.5yrs. It resides in a Sticky pocket holster and is light, comfortable, and beautifully concealed. It sports an XS Big Dot front sight, Altamont classic style grips, Wilson Combat internal spring kit, Cylinder & Slide ext. firing pin and I fitted an SDM cylinder release. I love the little gun, it carries like a dream, shoots nice and has a nice trigger & feel. I let a couple buddies of mine try it and both retired their bottom feeders and bought J-frames!
  2. Clean the threads thoroughly, new degreased screws, use the proper primer and some Loctite 2701. It won't come loose again!
  3. Always good to have options! Much better to have competing manufacturers than a monopoly and no choice! I'm going to start buying parts here and there to build a 9mm open gun. I'd love to have Adam's external extractor slide for it. Might get a slide & frame for Atlas for it. Possibly Tripp or PT too.
  4. I know Adam is big on doing his own parts so i wouldn't be surprised if they are doing their own frames. I saw here the other day they are doing an external extractor slide now.
  5. The new 320 Legion has a tungsten matrix blended in the polymer making it significantly heavier than the standard 320 frames. Cool idea for a polymer competition gun.
  6. I think Atlas might be doing their own frames too. My freshly built Open gun doesn't have any PT markings on it at least. It has the Atlas logo where it would say PT at least. I don't know if PT has any distinct marks or cuts to identify it otherwise.
  7. I put about 150rds through the Atlas yesterday practicing and the new deflector is a huge improvement with keeping soot off the optic. It had just a trace after I was done but it was hardly noticeable. So it didn't cure that 100% but id say it's 90% better. Before I built/installed the shield it would be sooty enough into a 30rd field course to effect my ability to see & shoot. Im quite happy with that but I can see already that its a limited lifespan part. Theres some pretty stout errosion that's going to take place with an aluminium baffle. Its not directly over a popple hole but its close enough for unburned powder to impinge onto it. Already planning to make a replacement, possibly from inconel, monel or 6AL-4V Ti. I could also just put a wear face of it on the aluminum. Decisions, decisions...
  8. Used to use the race masters, im a DAA fan. But my newest rig I put my previous racer pouches back on. They are just smoother, the masters have metal to metal contact and can be draggy but the all plastic racers ars slick. Eventually ill get the Alpha X pouches to complement the holster. They are lined inside so they are slick and have the extra adjustability I like. Can't speak for the CR's but a lot of people run them. They must be pretty good too.
  9. Nothing like being the sacrificial lamb huh! Especially when its your turn to go first and everyone missed the, "best 3 hits per target" in walkthrough but you saved them. Been there done that!
  10. Just got an entire Atlas open with their new 510C mount. I like mine. My buddy that just got an Akai transferred over his Tevo and had some issues with brass hanging under it. Example of one but considered no less. Not going to be a problem with the Atlas mount, its quite a bit lower. My only gripe and same on his Tevo, is with popple holes you get soot on the glass, it needs a deflector. Someone is making them, I made my own from aircraft aluminium.
  11. Chad, do you think we're going to churn up some mud as we race? Just wondering if some different shoes might be in order. I still have my clod-hoppers I got for Gator Classic last year but I hope that is overkill! That was some serious mud truckin' I hope never to repeat! Along with accidentally kicking the hotel room dresser and breaking some toes the morning of match day.
  12. I just took delivery of my brand new Atlas Custom a couple weeks ago, absolutely love the gun, fit & finish is superb. Its run 100%, not a lick of trouble so far, 600rds in.
  13. Ove got about 15,000rds of 9mm minor through my SFX andcit has been stellar. Started as a production gun, dawson sights, Grey guns P320L guide rod and 1911 commander spring. I did my own trigger tuning/polishing, glock 31 newton striker spring. When it went class legal I put a Freedomsmith trigger in it and eventually I stuck a DPP on it to go CO. Its great, reliable, shoots well, feels great (grip taped) and easily the nicest striker fired trigger Ive had and better than a lot of hammer guns. Its a great option!
  14. I was going to get a Chaos but ended up going full custom because I decided to spend the extra cash and get exactly what I wanted in an open gun! Adam & his guys did an amazing job on my gun, turned out better than I expected! The fit & finish is impeccable and so far, about 900rds into it, not a single failure of any kind! Its run 100% from the start! It is a 38SC and I'm loving the Holosun. The C-more is obsolescent now. If it wasn't for the 510C I would have gone with a DPP or SRO. For what its worth, one of my best buds has a CK 9mm major gun that cracked the slide about 4000rds or so in. I know of at least 3 more CK's that have cracked and one was a limited gun that was repaired and cracked again right after it got sent back. My buddy is still waiting for his to return after 4 months and no contact. Its going to be sold soon as it gets back, he's already bought an Akai. Something with CK's metallurgy or heat treat is wrong. They are nice guns but they don't have a very good reputation around here and custom service is lacking. Go with the Atlas, you won't be disappointed!
  15. Thats completely understandable, no reason you can't do it that way. I do the shake n' bake method in the bag for a couple reasons. One is im a neat freak with my 650. The DCL when dried is kinda tacky so it keeps the casefeeder and feed mech. a little bit cleaner. Using the bag method after a few loads the bag accumulates dried lube and you can use less DCL and the mist of alky I spray in softens that leftover lube. Looking at the brass, i can see where case mouths scrape lube up in tiny amounts and that transfers onto the powder funnel and keeps it smooth. Loading 9mm Major at 9gr of 3n38 left almost full to the rim brass so any sticky/snappy motion would jolt the press and spill powder so that smoothness is well appreciated! So I do the brass treatment 1st and dump if in and load primer tubes while the alky flashes off. Its an extra step but I don't mind in the grand scheme of things and it has a couple advantages im my experience. I will say use good heavy mil bags for this. I work in aviation and get plenty of really nice, rugged parts ziploc bags from Aviall.
