  1. Be so kind and quote the rule. Appendix D4, 21.6, pg. 80 Exchange of minor EXTERNAL components Sights, firing pins, firing pin retainers, extractors and ejectors MAY be replaced with OEM or aftermarket parts. Any other components which are externally visible may ONLY be replaced with OEM parts which are offered on the specific model of gun or another approved gun from the same manufacturer except as specifically clarified below. Examples of external components which may only be replaced with OEM parts include (but are not limited to): magazine releases, slide stops, thumb safeties and triggers. Special Notes/Clarifications: • Barrels are considered “external parts” and are subject to specific restrictions in 21.4 and associated rulings. • A factory/OEM magazine release which extends only the length of the magazine release may be used. A magazine release which provides larger surface area (paddles, buttons) may only be used if it is an OEM part available on an approved model of gun. • Externally-visible parts from “custom shop” guns will only be considered “OEM parts” if the custom shop gun is on the NROI list of approved Production guns. FSS and Apex trigger are INTERNAL components. GTG for Production!
  2. Such common sense, compassion and dignity exhibited by your town. We all should take note!
  3. Where you are talking about hope, the opening poster is saying the RO missed the call (due to positioning or whatever reason). It happens. The question is...can another match official make a call that was missed by the primary match official? The answer there seems pretty logical. Level 1, 2 or 3, the rulebook is the same unless specifically stated. IMO, once you give up the timer or clipboard, you are no longer the RO for that stage. But, reading Nik's and Flex's posts, I am reconsidering my opinion. I think what we all want, especially with regards to safety rules, is to get the call right. If the correct decision is made, does it matter who makes the call? No it does not!
  4. Youngeyes, my heart is sad and I can't even begin to imagine what the families and your town are going thru. Please continue to post if it helps you...because I know it's helping me! May God Bless us All!
  5. My anger at this piece of human garbage scares me! How could someone do this to beautiful, innocent children. If we do not figure out a way to protect our children in school, we should be ashamed of ourselves. We must provide the training and tools (firearms) to those we entrust our children's safety to...it's sad, but thats today's society! God Bless us, we might not deserve it but we sure do need it! How can rational people not see that if a armed good person was at the scene of one of these massacres, they might not be able to save everyone, however the extent of the damage would be mitigated! Would the body count in Denver or at VA Tech been that large if a CCW holder was present? I don't know for sure, however some of those people might have had a chance instead of NO chance! I can't even bear to put the news on! I normally don't do this, but I think I am going to get numb tonight, after I hug all my kids!

    Finally!

Illinois' days as the only state in the nation to forbid public possession of a firearm could be numbered after a federal appellate court threw out a state ban and gave lawmakers six months to figure out a way to let people legally carry guns. The 2-1 ruling Tuesday by a 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals panel in Chicago affirmed a constitutional right to have ready-to-use firearms for self-defense outside the home

  10. I really hate it when I run out of kleenex in the office!
  11. Why don't we ever hear the media lamenting the fact that there were NO well trained concealed carry holders in that theatre, or at VA Tech, or any number of other places that could have stopped or at least limited the destruction!
  12. IDPA at Oak Park Sportsmans Club (Plainfield) this Sunday. Then next Sunday USPSA same place.
  13. Any one on Squad 18 want to trade, I'm on Squad 16 (same Sat PM/ Sun AM). Just trying to hook up with some guys I usually shoot with. Plus 16 has and awful lot of Open Shooters...not that there is anything wrong with Open, but boy will that BE LOUD!
  14. My son and I are headed to MDW tomorrow night to welcome home some of these heroes. An honor and a privledge!
  15. Chris, I was the RO you approached and I did appreciate the "constructive criticism" and the way you did it, it was thoughtful and well intentioned. The one question I have is, I know "Range is going Hot" is not a valid range command, however safety is a priority so how do you prepare the other squad members, spectators, etc. for the beginning of a COF without some sort of announcment. I for one, sometimes tip my ear protection up when taping and or scoring and you sometimes forget and get disracted, so hearing "Range going Hot" reminds you to put your ears on. looking to learn, that was my first major match, and had a great time shooting and RO'ing! John
  16. No there are not... but many of the ROs that worked that match may or may not have been USPSA certified - old school, or IDPA certified. Some were newer and just not used to doing it the "right way". On one of my stages, I waited till our squad was finished and pulled the RO off to the side to tell him nicely, that he was using the wrong commands. I called it "constructive criticism" just to make him feel better. He thanked me for helping remind him of the correct range commands, and even admitted he felt like a idiot when he looked down at the timer, still in his hand, and read the little white sticker on the side of it that had all the correct range commands, including ..... "Are You Ready?" LOL I also saw an instance of a shooter who thought he heard the RO say "Make Ready" so he took his gun out of the holster ...... when in fact the RO had, at that point, only said "Range Is Going Hot". The initial reaction was to DQ the shooter, but after some mild protest, he was reinstated because "Range Going Hot" is NOT A VALID RANGE COMMAND. This is another example why it's important to stick to the OFFICIAL Range Commands, and NOTHING BUT. No questions about "Do you understand the COF," or Taking an Unloaded Sight Picture, etc. should EVER BE USED.
  17. Saw the movie the evening after attending "Ranger School" graduation at Ft. Benning. Talk about a Red, White, and Blue day!We are lucky to have some incredibly talented and courageous young men (and women) in our Armed Services!
