I am getting into the sport of 3-Gun. What are the advantages, or your experiences, with 9mm carbines versus a .223 rifle?

I just received one of these and after about two days of dry fire, it started binding. I was worried something was wrong with the holster, but it sounds more like something is wrong with the shooter... Thanks all!

Although I have significant experience with firearm, and I can say I have been a competitive shooter for two decades (I was a nationally ranked archer) I am new to 3-gun, IPSC, IDPA etc. Can anyone point me to people, clubs, or matches in the Central Illinois are?
