  1. Adding 9x18 Makarov to the mix.
  2. I honestly don't think I'm going to give up my Razor 1-6 unless Vortex comes out with a Razor 1-8.
  3. For me the big deal is reproducibility. I write down the settings for each type of bullet and changing bullets is just a 1 minute dial-in. Got the micrometer crimp die now also. Both are Redding. The sleeve of the seater die is modified to work on the 1050.
  4. You guys rock! Armed with .0005, .001 and .002 shim I went to install my 18" 308 JP barrel on an Aero upper. The sloppy hand fit pointed me to this thread. I tried .001 first and there still was play, .002 didn't go. Put the barrel in the freezer and heated up the receiver with the wife's blow dryer. tiniest bit of grease on the receiver and the barrel slipped right in. 5 Minutes later I couldn't pull the barrel for the life of me. Thanks!!!
  5. We started watching this show last week Thursday, tomorrow we'll finish season 3. I expect to end up in a "binge hole" until the final 7 episodes of season 5 air.
  6. Anyone watched this? We gave it a try and ended up binge watching the first 2 seasons. Wow! No comparison with any other series and comes with a healthy dosage of trial and error in the operating theater, addiction, abortion, bribe, blackmail and racism. Big Bang ending of season 2.
  7. Update: I'm quite happy with the accuracy so far. The .45 does not cycle Xtreme 185 FP reliably, but 200gr HP is as good as it gets for my skills at 25y offhand (20 rounds, the 1 flyer is operator error).
  8. My Syrac adjusts from the front (long hex included). Settings are repeatable through clicks.
  9. It's not that I didn't know better, but my wife had bought me a Dremel and I had an urge to Dremel something. Without safety goggles in reach I decided I didn't need them as I was well aware of the risk and was going to be very careful. That night I ended up crying and my wife insisted that excessive rubbing was what caused it. Anyways, around midnight an ER doctor used some kind of Dremel to drill the metal splinter out of my eyeball. Week later an eye doctor - again with kind of Dremel - removed the rest of the rust.
  10. I'm getting 2700fps with the smk 135 out of a 16" barrel and LC brass. With std primer and 45.0gr IMR 4064. Now if I use a mag or mil primer I can go down 1 grain and get the same velocity. That's enough to make the bullet feeder drop the bullet on top of the case mouth and not on top of the powder: it keeps the bullet from tipping over when the shell plate rotates..
  11. For the 750 AMAX it should not be too hard to change the design of the tip to HP.
  12. I have just started playing with these myself. First rounds I seated at OAL 1.230, but bullet dia right in front of the case mouth seems to suggest that's beyond the point where the taper starts. Got some loaded this morning to 1.245 and the bullet dia in front of the case mouth is now more realistic. I also tried some with OAL 1.255 but when loading them in a magazine (2011) they seem to hang up inside. First load was 5.3 and 5.5gr N320, cases came out rather black on one side after shooting. Bumping now to 5.6 and see what happens (test was done in 25F temp). No chrono data yet. Edit: I need to learn how to read; my bullets are X-treme brand.
  13. Gotta have balls to hang that on your rifle.....
  14. But so far nobody has been able to compare the 2 versions of the Apeiro and yet you seem to know that one is better than the other.
  15. At this point this is nothing more than your opinion based on your assumptions.
  16. pries81: IM sent. I've only taken them out once so far, I'm hoping to get some range time this weekend and test some loads. The first impression however is very good, the lack of recoil in especially the 9mm is ridiculous! These are my first 2011's, so I can't compare to anything but a plain 1911.
  17. To be honest it WAS a bit of a letdown at first. When I first started to read about the Apeiro, I'd never heard of Schuemann (I'm not a 1911 guy), but sources seemed to consider it a plus or even the determining factor. When I got mine I noticed they did not look like the pictures I'd seen, so I got a bit worried. In reality, I was just assuming I got inferior barrels. I got to play with them last Sunday and they seem to work well. Unless I would have an opportunity to shoot them side by side (Schuemann vs non-Schuemann) there is no way to tell which is better. Schuemann seems to have a good reputation. I just have them sighted in, maybe next time I'll shoot a few rounds from a rest, which doesn't really say much as some barrels simply don't like some projectiles. On top of that I reload using mixed brass, which doesn't contribute to bulls eye accuracy. I left the range satisfied and happy. For the first time ever I was able to shoot in some kind of cadence and hit my 5.5" target at 25y. Before I had to find the targets again through the sights; I'm not a racer by nature. At this point I wouldn't exchange the barrels if it was an option. Btw... I paid 2250/ea but the price was not different from the previous Schuemann price. Picture from the day I got them.
  18. I called STI today and per the tech rep they are using a 2nd source when Schuemanns are unavailable. He didn't mention the source and I didn't ask. Both guns shoot well and I am convinced that of all things that may hold me back, the barrels aren't among them. No regrets from my end.
  19. I'll ask STI and report back. - I did have a good time at the range today shooting them for the first time (also my first exposure to the island barrel concept).
  20. I picked up my new Apeiros last week and noticed the barrels are only marked "9X19" and "45 ACP". From what I'd seen on the web the Schuemann barrels are all marked as Schuemann barrels with a bunch of other stuff. It makes me wonder what the origin of the barrels is and if it has consequences for the use of non-jacketed ammo. Any insight is appreciated.
  21. After seeing low SD's (3 to 7.3) when shooting over the chrono, I stopped worrying about variations in metering IMR 4064 though a Dillon powder measure. I did polish the powder measure.
  22. I tried using the bifocal stick-on twice (only right eye). Somehow it's like I'm seeing too many front and rear sights and I'm getting lost figuring out which front sight goes along with which rear Gets better when I close my left eye but then the target gets too blurry (if I can find it). On a side note I got a pound of VV N320 to try as an alternative for AA #5, which turns my fiber front sight black in no-time.
  23. Update: So far the magwell doesn't feel like it's going to bother. The included magazine is a 12 rounder (fits 13). Its going to be 2 weeks before I have time to testfire it.
