  1. Pardon me, but if you are referring to my post, I was not asking why Frank uses the classic target. I was trying to make a point. I see no reason why we couldn't move a little closer to IPSC by adopting the classic targets in the US. I see no real advantage in one style over the other, thus it would cost us nothing to do so. I used the Fla Open as an example of a major match where they are already used. I know that you weren't asking about the classics, I was agreeing with you and putting the "why" as a "sidebar" comment. I was just addressing where the Olympic conversation came into play and how a lot of people took my post the wrong way.
  2. The whole Olympic coversation evolved from my answering a question about the Florida Open and why Frank Garcia uses the Amoeba Targets. Not that the USPSA/IPSC collaboration was moving towards the Olympics, that just took off by itself. I have yet to get my Front Sight Mag to read the article. What are the major differences in rules between IPSC and USPSA that everyone dislikes so much?
  3. I agree with what you're saying, but if we would like to be an Olympic sport maybe we could change some of our paradigms to adapt. Because if we keep doing what we've been doing, we'll keep getting what we've been getting. Change is not always bad. What if the combination of IPSC and USPSA works out, what if we do like the IPSC rules after all, what if we get twice as many member as we currently have, what if... You never know until you try.
  4. One of the reasons Frank Garcia told me he runs the Florida Open with the Amoeba targets is because he'd like to see the sport adopted into the Olympics. They don't like the classic "Silloutte style" targets, because it's too human looking. By trying to get shooters to used to amoebas, as they become more widely used, hopefully it will move to an Olympic event. I haven't received my Front Site yet, what are the major variances between the IPSC rules and USPSA rules?
  5. I use a 14# spring in my TGO1 and PC1911 4.1 Tightgroup (168pf) and 230 ball or 4.4 Tightgroup (168pf) and 200 LSWC 4.1 Clays (168pf) and 230 ball I prefer and love the feel of the 12# springs, the gun cycled great and recoil was non existant, but I was replacing chewed up recoil buffer pieces after every second match. I think with the load you're talking about (5.0 tightgroup) combined with a 10# spring might be a little too harsh on the gun.
  6. Is there much of a difference in using the Hardend Hammer Struts? Are these ever prone to bending, or is just to assure that there's 0% flex to assure 100% Hammer fall?
  7. After shooting a pair shooting glasses from Wal Mart I ventured out and purchased some Oakleys. The shooting Shooting Array set up that they have was designed specifically for shooting and exceeds ANSI standards for impact protection. You can buy these lenses seperate as well. In night and low light and overcast the VR50's work really well and they have a brown tint to them. In daytime I use the G26's, which which I think work really well. These a whole better than shooting my old yellow lenses in bright sunshine days! I don't know how I did it!
  8. Where exactly on the USPSA site do you go? Walkthrough?
  9. I'm going to replace the internals of my STI (Disconnector, Sear, Hammer, and Spring). The gun was going full auto on me on a several shots, I tweaked the Sear Spring in a little and I think that was more of a band aid fix more than anything, I was able to shoot a small match later that night. I'm thinking that I might want to replace all of the internals for the added peace of mind. I know a lot of you will probably say I don't need to replace this or that, but if it gives me the pychological assurance that all of it is replaced, I wont worry about it during the Area match and I can shoot at my normal pace witout worry of a malfunction. What brand recommendations do you guys have on these parts? Is the Hardened Sears like EGW and the Titanium Hammer Struts worth it to get. I don't care about the money, I want to know that I've got the best parts in my gun. I'll pay for the peace of mind!
  10. Generally, how far do most competitors sight in their Limited gun? Mine's sighted in at 25 yards. I didn't know if people try a further distance or not.
  11. But...Remember the Marlboro lawsuit? Millions were awarded because cigarettes cause cancer...and there's another one starting again as of Januuary of this year. Everyone needs to blame someone else. Accountability for our own actions is not what most people like to do, therefore they sue for their own negligence and stupidity. I have no confidence in our justice system for allowing trials like this to be awarded. He'll probably win. I'd be more surprised if not shocked if he didn't.
  12. In Jim Cirillo's book "Guns, Bullets, and Gunfights" he stated that he's had 3 AD in his lifetime. Accidents happen, his just happened to be in a classroom with a bunch of kids which was extremely bad, although I don't condone his sueing the US, but the tape shouldn't have made it out to the public. He is ruined, and he'll be paying for that mistake for the rest of his life, with his carreer, his friends, and his co-workers.
  13. I individually clicked on each shooter on the self squadding page that was in Limited to see what class they were in. I guess that takes too long but when you're bored at work, you'll do almost anything IPSC related to keep yourself occupied. Too bad I can't dryfire in my office...
  14. How do you index your grip on the gun so quickly??? I was playing your videos back and forth in slow motion and it looks like you scoop the gun with your middle finger and as it comes out, you assure your grip on the gun during presentation. I know one thing that slows me down is that my draw is done in two movements: hand goes to gun for grip, then present. I do have a decent reaction time to the buzzer (.12 to .13 seconds everytime), and being rather new to the sport I can hit a small pepper popper at 30 yards at about 1.5-1.6 seconds, but I'd really like my draw one swift motion. I know you were looking for insights on your draw with this post could you give me any recommendations? I'm off to dryfire...
  15. Something that helped me train to not listen for the steel is shooting small paper plates. I'll line them up four in a row and move them 15-20 yards and shoot one, move to the next, shoot one, move to the next. Just like Keen said, you want to call your shot rather than listen for it, sound travels slow and you're wasting time listening for the acknowledgement of the bullet connecting to the plate before you transition to your next plate. If you try shooting paper plates, you'll be surprised at how fast your transition from plate to plate becomes and then you're clearing the rack in a fraction of the time that it took you to shoot and listen, shoot and listen, etc. Good luck. P.S. To answer your original question. I have the Pro Ears Dimension 1's by Ridgeline. They're great for matches, they don't cut out when shots are fired but rather the loud noise is filtered. So you can have a normal conversation standing next to a guy shooting an open gun and the headset doesn't shut off the electronics. I think for a headset you can't get any better than those, plus they have a five year warranty.

  17. That's really nice! Those slide cuts really show off nicely. Are you going to Hard Chrome it or keep blued?
  18. Kim, So he'll "Activate" the wait list on the 29th to be ready for us to sign on to the wait list on the 30th? Am I getting that right? How long does it take to find out whether you made it? Chad
  19. I just had to copy this and post it on here before the auction ends.
  20. If EricBudd can get 18+1 in a Para I guess that's not bad at all. Eric, is the length of your mag at 140mm? One thing that I didn't see mentioned is recoil. I've never shot a .45 Limited gun but I shoot a 1911 at Single Stack Matches and shoot a Limited in .40 and I would say that my .40 Limited gun produces lower recoil than my 1911, both shooting a 168pf load. My splits are a tad faster in the Limited gun. I was told when I first got into the game to shoot .40 due to lower recoil and higher round count. What would be some of the benefits to shooting .45 in IPSC other than the size of the bullet hole?
  21. I was told that I should try to go on the waiting list at the end of the month and see if I can get on for the Nationals. Can anyone tell me exactly how this works?
  22. I sent in my application about a week and a half ago. How long does it normally take to show up on the squad sheet?
  23. Congrats to Jack Suber and Cliff Walsh and the rest of the winners. Cliff, you shooting Ruskin next week? Chad
  24. Flyin, Did you decide on any of them? I'm kinda interested in the Earinc's digitals I'm going to call them Monday and see about ordering them. I use electronic muffs now and although they work great, they're hot in the summer! I need more comfort.
  25. I would check with Derek Janowicz at Millennium Custom. He does great work and a lot of the top shooters at my club shoot his guns. http://www.mcguns.com/
