  1. I picked up Steve Anderson's book Refinement and Repitition and I was wondering how many of you use it? One of my mentor's recommended the book to me and I know that Steve is on Enos.com. I haven't really had a chance to delve into it yet, I just got my Pact IV (hope it works after reading some of the posts) yesterday. I was just curious how often you Competitive guys use dryfire as a daily ritual or once in a blue moon "when I'm bored" type of practice. Please, any and all feedback is welcome?
  2. It's sad that we're so behind Japan in the electronics industry! Reading your posts you sounded like you had a great time! Your comment about the pilot was really funny, I'll have to remember that one. What were you demoing the airsoft guns for? Accuracy, maybe sponsorship? Am I seeing Video #8 coming on? Airsoft Mastery?
  3. The book from what I've read so far has to do with shooting philosophy and mindset. It's deep!! It's the Brian Enos "Art of War" for shooting!
  4. Thanks a lot for your feedback guys! I have such a competitive mindset that I hate screw ups and I have a hard time dealing with them! I used to be on the Florida Tae Kwon Do Team and if I did something stupid and took a hit, I'd get angry at myself, fight harder and madder and it usually went to hell from there. My teammates knew when I was done. If I was able to catch and compose myself and then become aware and focused (I've been reading Brian Enos' book and this just came to me like a ton of bricks as I was writing this) of the situation, I could correct myself to win the match. Ironically, my thanks to all of your responses and my little story really helped clarify a lot of things for myself as well as all of your comments did. I totally forgot about my experiences in tournaments back then and how to get my head back in the game, until I opened up to tell you about them. My reply to you guys finally gave me clarity to my question. Wow! Thanks!!!
  5. I shot a match today and screwed up on the last stage really bad. Luckily I shot decently in the first 4 stages so it didn't kill my overall score, but had that been my first stage or in the middle of the match I would've melted down! How do you guys get back on top of your game and get your head right, after something like this happens?
  6. Wow! You scroll down to the bottom of that page and that guy doesn't even clean his barrel at all! I dunno if I can follow that. I'm not saying he's wrong, he did list some valid points, it's just that it goes against so many years of shooting and cleaning practices. That just seems weird to never clean your barrel. They say when something new comes along it's Strongly Ridiculed, then Violently Opposed, then accepted as always being true. Maybe he's on to something... I'd like to see what Brian Enos and Matt Burkett think and practice about their cleaning rituals. If they see this thread, either that or I'll call them on Monday.
  7. I was at an IPSC Match last night and I stumbled onto a conversation about gun cleaning. One guy had mentioned that he cleaned his weapon every 1000 to maybe 2000 rounds at a time. I'm talking about not doing anything, not even a boresnake! After hearing this I asked a few other people about it and they pretty much all said the same thing, "as much as I shoot, I can't keep up with cleaning the gun after every match and the 1911 can go without cleaning for a 1000 to 2000 rounds". A few guys I spoke with said they wouldn't even clean their guns before a match if they were around 500 rounds into the last cleaning. I've been shooting competitively for about six months now, I find this odd. I'm asking this question at the expense of my sounding ignorant either way, but I want to know if any other competitors practice the same thing.
  8. It's funny that everyone here that says they use a 12# spring uses a shock buff. I ran my PC1911 without it and it worked fine. A lot of the guys I shoot Single Stack Matches and IDPA don't like buffers because it can make the gun jam. I understand that the reduced recoil spring will make the slide to frame contact higher and harder. I guess it's the old debate of "Buffers" to "No Buffers" Running a Buffer makes sense, don't get me wrong, I just have a lot of conflicting opinions (from top notch competitors I might add) on not running a Buffer.
  9. I had the same concern about leading in the barrel on my guns. The guys that I shoot IDPA and IPSC with use LSWC's and say that with the slower velocities, there's not much concern for lead build up. The guy I get my loads from cleans his pistol after a thousand rounds (about 10 matches) with no concerns, says he runs a bore snake through it two or three times and that's it for the barrel. He's also one of the top shooters at the three gun clubs we shoot at so he is by no means a crappy shooter nor a beginner. Although I still clean my pistol after every match, I'll still look out for leading just to be on the safe side. They also have harder bullets, moly coating (from what I hear to prevent leading), and Jacketed Wad Cutters.
  10. Matter of fact I started shooting IDPA with a Glock 19. I really got into shooting 1911's again and now I just shoot CDP Class. When I started shooting CDP I used my fobus double stack mag carrier for my Glock 19 mags before I found my 1911 mag carriers. They'll work fine!!!
  11. Thanks for the input guys! A buddy that got me my loads shoots a Springer amd gave me a 12# spring to see how I like it. I shot it in a Single Stack Match that night and it's a world of difference!! I also had no jams, FTF's or FTE's. I can't believe that there's that much difference in recoil and control.
  12. Mike, I got my start shooting IDPA and I really like it! I still shoot it now but have also ventured out into IPSC shooting as well since they only have 2 IDPA Matches a month here where I live. One thing that you need to bring is an over shirt, you could buy a vest but try it out first with a shirt. See if you like it before you buy a vest. In IDPA they start off everything as if you were carrying a weapon in public for real (gun is out of sight, gun at the middle of hip and magazines the same on the other side). Magazines, get a few Wilson Combat 8 rounders. In IDPA I carry 4 mags with me (2 reloaders, main magazine to start with, and 1 magazine that I load my first round with so I'm loaded at 8 + 1 rounds). The guys at most local clubs are going to be willing to help you out, so you don't have to worry about having all of the right equipment on your first shoot. It's very laid back and fun. I've made a lot of great friends throughout the sport and have drastically improved my overall shooting and gun handling abilities. Keep us updated. Chad
  13. I'll second that! I was going to put a big mag button on my Edge and noticed that my left hand kept dropping the mags. Luckily I never used it in a match with the big mag button.
  14. I love that everyone shoots with standard sights not Scopes! (Everyone always commends the guy that blasted through a stage in 2 seconds hit almost all A's and has a Targeting System set up for an F/A 18 with Laser Guided Smartbombs!) Scoring system is easier to eyeball where you're at. (And I thought they were full of it when they said "one day you'll use Calculus in the real world") My wife can shoot it without feeling pressures of the competition It's how I first started shooting
  15. Boo Radley, I just thought of something to do for practice drills kinda like what you're doing. Instead of hitting the board that pops, or slapping the timer. What about using a cap gun? At least you can get your movements, transitions, and somewhat (firing) down. It's not going to come close to dry firing and your trigger control on your specific gun, but at least you wont have to recock the hammer everytime. Just a thought.
  16. Great! I hope I don't develope any problems with my MKIV! I wish I had placed my order form Brian's store yesterday than going to directly through Pact so I can get Brian's support and "pull"should I have a problem. It scares me when I buy a product after I read such rave reviews about the customer service.
  17. I have two different choices for .45 ammo loads. 1) 200 grain SWC, 168pf 2) 230 grain Ball, 168pf What springs would you IDPA or Limited 10 guys recommend for a Smith & Wesson PC1911 and a Springfield Leatham Legend TGO1 running that kind of load? Since dropping Recoil Spring Weight, would it be safe to assume that a Buffer is a must?
  18. Thanks again for all of your responses. I ordered the Pro Ears Pro Slim (+), Dimension 1's. These are brand new and coming straight from the Pro Ears Company. The ( + ) is their brand new design that's coming out in January 2006 (ordering it straight from Pro Ears you can get it before January). It Takes the standard Pro Slim design from a NRR (Noise Reduction Rating) rating of 21 to NRR rating of 28, as well as added comfort. I picked these because I found that Pro Ears have the highest gaurantee (5 years) on their Dimension 1's, and seem to have all of the performance and comfort I'm looking for. I did search the out the Sordin Supreme Pro's. They were the same price as the Pro Ears ($230, but cost wasn't the concern, performance was) but the warranty was for only 90 days and the NRR Rating was lower at 22. I'll be getting them tomorrow (thank god for overnight shipping since I hate waiting for anything), and I'll take them to the range tomorrow night. Thanks agin for all of your responses and help!!!!
  19. Thanks a lot for all of your responses! Now I have a lot more to go back on. I didn't know at all how many brands were out there and I wanted to get a shooters point of view when it came down to comfort and quality. Thanks for all of your help, and I'll let you know which I decide on. Thanks again and Merry Christmas! Chad
  20. Hey guys. With so many different brands of Electronic Ear Muffs out there, what are some of the best ones out there? I'm tired of wearing earplugs at the matches! I'm looking for a headset based on a few factors. 1. Quality of performance (outside use only). 2. Comfort Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

  22. I shoot a Springer Custom Loaded (stock). I liked it so much I wondered what the Leatham model could do so I ordered one. I thought of taking my Loaded Custom to Bob Cogan and having them rework it but decided to spend the money on another gun ie. the TGO1. I should recieve it in a few weeks.
