  1. See, that's good design (and sounds like fun). Though 8-shots aren't technically allowed in IDPA, right? Six shots and then reload?
  2. Call it "Jerry M's Happy Place", lol. Unfortunately, I had unexpected expenses come up and won't be able to attend. It seems like the kids and the house just take turns eating into my fun funds in an endless loop.
  3. I just wanted to follow up... I recently changed to thumbs-over based on this thread and I did see an increase in accuracy despite having short fingers. It feels like pulling down with the support thumb snugs the backstrap into the webbing of my strong hand. My strong hand gets more control without needing to grip the everloving life out of the stocks, freeing up tension on my index finger for a smoother trigger pull. Thanks for all the insights!
  4. But... USPSA's rule book allows for varying shots on target depending on COF.
  5. Looks like I'll get to try this stuff after all! I'm finally switching to reloading 9mm and the SP looks ideal. I have 147 BBI flat points on the way; thinking I'll start at around 3.2gr and work my way up. Does anyone have a COL they'd recommend?
  6. Do you actually think that having flexibility in the shots on target per COF is what's killing it?
  7. Sorry to dig up an old post, but any long-term reliability thoughts on the Mec-Gars? I'd be using them in the same gun so I'm pretty intrugued.
  8. I use Specials too, though I don't know that my shooting would lend itself to convincing people that they're a good idea, lol.
  9. USPSA Classifier "Can You Count?" is two strings of five shots on the back target, reload, five shots on the front target. And they're very close. I just did that one with a .44 and boy was it fun, lol. Ballistic masturbation, though...? Well, I did say "fun", right? Because if it's not, you're doing it wrong.
  10. And, like, 33% of that is just the Production gear appendix, lol. I don't mind the occasional 3 on target. Actually, Pat designed a COF that way a few months ago at ICORE and I thought it was one of the better stages. It definitely makes you concentrate.
  11. I've jumped to Flickr. I cannot fathom what PhotoBucket was thinking. "Hey guys, lets screw our long-term customer base as hard as possible! OOOOO! I know! Lets also change the TOS so that the PRIMARY THING they've used our site for up until now is now 'illegal!' Surely, everyone will feel bad and shell out a $400 ranso- err, usage fee!"
  12. Just curious - does anyone here switch between optic and irons divisions? Do you think it helps your shooting? Or hurt it? I have a setup on my revolver that lets me do both (going to use the dot in ICORE and the irons in USPSA) so I'll be able to see on that front, but I wonder about trying to go from USPSA Open/CO to Limited/SS/Production where the guns are similar in shape but very different in behavior. I'd love to hear anyone's thoughts on the matter.
  13. Nope, haven't bought any yet. That's why I was hoping for some real world insight. I guess it's possible that it'll go the 100+ FPS over the stated load data I need to make PF. I'll probably stick to my other powders for now.
  14. However, it fails to make Minor for .38 Special. Hell, it doesn't even make ICORE's minimum out of a 6" barrel. It looks very comparable to Trail Boss for .44 Special, just a few FPS faster.
  15. Alliant's data seems to indicate that the bullet will be going slower than comparable data for N320. Have you found that to be true?
  16. To be fair, there's a whole division in ICORE that's 6-shooters with speed loaders. ...I don't shoot it, but some crazy people do .
  17. Sorry, I knew that. I don't consider snubbies when thinking of competition guns, lol. Sent from my STV100-1 using Tapatalk
  18. I use a short RSC latch on my guns, but I use my weak-hand thumb to depress it. I've tried all of them and that's definitely my favorite. Least favorite would be the California Competition Works with its pointless 45-degree ramp...
  19. Oh boy, I hope the outcome of this thread isn't that I inadvertently wreck something, lol. I would do this when I had my Rhino as it has a giant, flat blast shield and no cylinder release to interfere with my thumb (it's got a latch up high). On my Smiths, the combination of my short thumbs and the cylinder release means that I can only get the tip of my thumb on the shield, which is more painful than it is helpful.
  20. Thank you again! Your arm position sounds close to mine. JM seems to recommend holding the gun dead-center with your elbows out the same distance, but I definitely push my weak-hand elbow out further and keep my strong hand elbow straighter. As you indicate, this pushes back my right foot so my stance is slightly Weaver-ish, but ironically, I think it's close to what BEnos recommends in his book. I'm going to experiment with trying thumbs-over again. I find that my trigger finger starts to get fatigued when I squeeze the overloving crap out of the gun with my strong hand - using the weak hand to squeeze my strong hand/thumb should help with that. I've also been trying Robert Vogel's autoloader technique, wherein you torque your wrists inward to maintain control rather than push-pull or relying entirely on grip strength.
  21. Haha, I'm a big K Frame fan too. I use a 14-3 for ICORE Limited 6 and a 15-3 for IDPA. THANK YOU! I appreciate you posting all that - that's exactly the kind of insight I was looking for. So you're also doing thumb-over-thumb? If you're aligning the gun with your forearm, then do you have one arm straighter than the other or are your elbows pushed out the same? I haven't read any Stoeger - which do you recommend?
  22. For the record, right now I'm using a thumbs-forward grip on both my 627 and K-frames that I use in ICORE. I've tried JM's thumbs-over grip but I seem to get a lot more wobble; I think this might be because I have smaller hands and short fingers.
