  1. What grip* do you use when shooting revos in competition? How did you arrive on it, and do you change it based on the gun/frame size? *Grip being positioning of the hands, not the wooden stocks on the gun This is one of those topics that won't have one clear answer - and that's totally fine. I'm asking as I'm trying to figure out how I can start improving and one obvious place is consistency, both in group size on paper and in hitting steel. I've come to the determination that this is stemming from my grip being too loose and, possibly, wrong. I have no actual training so I have no idea. Naturally this lead me down a YouTube hole (largely of Miculek videos) looking for answers but the one thing I've learned from shooting is that there is no "one size fits all" solution so I'd love to hear some thoughts on the matter.
  2. Thanks for looking into this! I could never get this forum to show up in my Tapatalk combined notification feed for some reason, but now I can't even go to it directly in the app. Looks like I'm not alone.
  3. I'm leaning toward the ICE, though I guess I should decide if I ever intend to carry this gun before slapping that dinner plate on the bottom of it. Looking at the rules - can SS Minor shooters start with 10+1? They seem to state "no more than 10 rounds per mag after the start signal".
  4. Perfect! I'm looking at all of Techwell's offerings (as well as a few others). Any advice on whether I should do an open-front well like the TGO or a full funnel like the Dawson ICE?
  5. I'll look into those! Won't the BOSS hanger drop the gun too low for single stack rules?
  6. Well... I took the plunge. Relatively inexpensively. Picked up this guy used: RIA Ultra Tac II. It's actually the 9mm/22TCM model but didn't come with the TCM barrel or mag - totally fine with me since I don't get the point of that round. It included three 9mm mags (two Metalforms and one Chip McCormick) and one Wilson .45 10-rounder (?). Slide play feels pretty good and the trigger is surprisingly solid. It seemed like a decent choice for a division that I'm only going to do once in a while. I don't intend to invest a ton into it but the plan for now is: - Wilson Combat Shok Buff - 2 more mags (Dawsons) and Dawson baseplates for the other 3 - Slightly bigger magwell. This one is better than nothing but not by much. - Thinner grips with full "scoop" so I might be able to reach the mag release (short thumbs) - If I still can't, extended mag release (probably STI) Off to investigate cheap holster and mag pouch options!
  7. I should add that all loads burned cleanly. Also, I'm not responsible for whatever you do with this info, lol.
  8. Howdy, everyone! I'm a big fan of the Eggleston 148gr RN for .38 Special, but there's not much load data out there for it. So... I thought I'd provide some! Full test results are located here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1TD9LtYk8x4LHljzIY8YTDf4d4Ki8Hh_o9HxhYkwFvB0/edit?usp=sharing Load Info: - Eggleston 148r Coated Lead RN Bullets, .358 - Federal .38 Special Cases - Federal #100 Small Pistol Primers - Titegroup Powder (weights listed out below) - Bullet seated to crimp groove, medium-tight roll crimp (3/4 turn on a Lee die) Test Info: - Test Gun 1: S&W 627 PC 5" barrel (16 rounds per load) - Test Gun 2: S&W 14-3 6" barrel (12 rounds per load). This gun has the most narrow chambers of all of my revos so it's the most susceptible to sticking. - Chrono: Competition Electronics ProChrono with indoor lighting kit - All rounds were loaded into moonclips to test for sticking Results are shown as "Gun 1 / Gun 2". Load 1: EM 148gr / 3.9gr of Titegroup Average: 845 (125 PF) / 883 (130 PF) High: 859 / 901 Low: 827 / 884 Extreme Spread: 32 / 57 Standard Deviation: 9 / 15 Sticking: None / None Load 2: EM 148gr / 4.0gr of Titegroup Average: 862 (127 PF) / 891 (131 PF) High: 883 / 918 Low: 839 / 860 Extreme Spread: 44 / 58 Standard Deviation: 11 / 20 Sticking: None / None Load 3: EM 148gr / 4.1gr of Titegroup Average: 873 (129 PF) / 908 (134 PF) High: 893 / 935 Low: 846 / 887 Extreme Spread: 47 / 48 Standard Deviation: 10 / 13 Sticking: None / None Load 4: EM 148gr / 4.2gr of Titegroup Average: 889 (131 PF) / 919 (136 PF) High: 914 / 953 Low: 863 / 856* Extreme Spread: 51 / 97 Standard Deviation: 12 / 23 Sticking: None / Some sticking on ejection *This looks like a low charge Load 5: EM 148gr / 4.3gr of Titegroup Average: 909 (134 PF) / 942 (139 PF) High: 926 / 901 Low: 887 / 884 Extreme Spread: 39 / 65 Standard Deviation: 11 / 15 Sticking: None / Severe sticking on ejection Hopefully someone finds this info useful!
  9. I'm with you, Dean, though apparently I need to work on strong hand shooting?! I did the 5 weak-hand poppers in six shots, and then missed like crazy on the strong hand array. My main goal for next year is to win a single round in the shoot-offs after back-to-back first round exits, lol. Great match, as always!
  10. Bless their hearts, they try so hard... but you really do have to wonder sometimes. Hell, Taurus has more practical revolvers. Or they would, if they'd stop porting literally everything.
  11. Ah yeah, I see what you mean. Maybe I'll order mags first, then baseplates, then do the magwell last. It looks like the Mec-Gar 17 rounders are a good place to start - Greg Cote sells them with a +2 adapter, and you can add the Henning baseplate kits to take them to 23.
  12. Are there any magwells that work with the factory SP-01 basepads? Or is it just a requirement that you switch to something fancy/aluminum?
  13. I have all old K's, but I'd definitely be interested in a new N. I'd think you'd get the most interest from competitors if you went with the new-style N, as well (all of ICORE Limited and Open, most USPSA revo's).
  14. I'm still SO intrigued by this. I will wait patiently for news, lol.
  15. That's very true. I've been using 240gr truncated cones and they reload pretty fast, but they can occasionally land *just* right so that they hang up.
  16. I'm thinking of switching back to a 158gr coated lead bullet for my practice/match loads (I have a thing for cannelures) and I'm looking at powders that can toss them a little faster than my beloved Trail Boss and meter a bit better than 700-X. I had IMR Red and Target recommended and I like all of the numbers, but I can't find any reviews on how they meter or burn. Has anyone given them a shot?
  17. 8-shot makes sense in Production, but why a Redhawk over a gun already cut for moons like a 627?
  18. I finally saw some in the wild. I didn't pick it up yet since I have a big match coming up and don't want to mess with my loads but I will soon after.
  19. You got it. 240 lead TC over 4.7+ grains of Trail Boss. I've chrono'd it and it's good for a 172 PF.
  20. I took out the 629 for our last match. Boy... that was fun. I think it's going to be my go-to unless the classifier prohibits it (ie. more than 6 shots before reload).
  21. Glad I'm not the only one! I always try to find this out in advance, lol.
