I think that is an incomplete argument. The current winners will continue to win because they learned to be fast and accurate. I assert that future shooters will have a harder time reaching the pinnacle of shooting via IDPA because they will never be able to go through the realization that it's OK to take some points down in exchange for learning to shoot faster. True winners learn to be fast and accurate, but it's been argued that it is easier to learn to be accurate after learning to be fast, and much less so for vice versa. My fear, as I've already stated, is that the new blood in the sport is going to bypass IDPA, or migrate out of it very quickly. Neither is going to help the long-term success of the sport.

True, but if you have the fundamentals down, a smart competitor uses the gear that is going to work best if they want to win the game. Full-length dust covers are illegal in ESP unless the gun meets all the criteria for SSP (including weight). This was the issue with the SP-01 in the past, but IDPA upped the SSP weight limit in the last rulebook. As someone else wrote, the Target model's slide has been cut by the Custom Shop to fit the target sight (IIRC). Because the CZ Custom Shop is not owned by CZ, this means that the modification is not legal for SSP.

That's what I use for REV division. I initially used Blade-Tech, but I absolutely hated them. The Ready Tactical pouches are much better (and cheaper).

I bought the 5" because I like the extra front end weight and increased sight radius.

If it is not limited to members only, then it is a public event (even if it is on private property). It's probably legal, but it might be a thoroughly douchebag move. There are some people who do not want images of them shooting being recorded. Basic courtesy would be to get their permission before posting online any pics of them shooting. Some people don't care. Others care very much. Do the right thing and ask before you film (and especially before you post).

This pretty much nails it. The FNS might be a competition gun if you're willing to do the work yourself. If you're not, there are better options available.

Sorry...not willing to drop hundreds of dollars on a gun that I might be able to modify into the configuration that I want it. I have other solutions that work (M&P and XD), so it's not worth my time and money to invent the wheel. If, some day, somebody develops a drop-in trigger improvement modification (like what exists for the big three striker-fired platforms), then I'll look in an FNS-L. Until then, it stays in the "too bad/would love to have it if only" category. Nice looking gun. Hope somebody can make it a viable competition platform, eventually.

A lot of us who shoot competition do want it lighter than that. Personally, I want it down around 3#.

Trigger kits and recoil springs of different weights. I was very interested in the FNS-L until I found out that there are no real options for getting the trigger down to a weight I want for competition. As long as you can do so with the XD, M&P, and Glock with drop-in kits at a sub-$150 price point while the FNS can't, the platform will never take off in the competition arena. And that's a real shame, since it seems to be some aspects about the gun that are quite nice.
