  1. +1 Same mentality here, which is why I distributed over 1,000 flyers this spring for our clubs IDPA and USPSA matches this year at various gun shops, police + fire departments, etc. Got to get those with "guns in the safe" out to realize that there is are sports for them to take part in. If I can get someone to try it, I WILL "hook" 'em. Church groups huh... never thought of that market!
  2. +1 I have one for my G21, the CR speed for the 35/ open 17.
  3. Can you elaborate for me? Not that Sweeeeeeeeeeeeeet doesn't pretty well answer my question, but can you break it down just a bit? How is the function, fit, finish, and what can I expect for longevity (how many rounds should I be able to get out of one before needing to start replacing stuff? I've been told by those in the know that a good 1911 Open gun can last 100,000 rounds). Thanks! I got mine in Jan. great shooter. Brand new to open class, and a dyed in the wool glock lover, so the S&J was an obvious choice. One of the better open shooters here in Maine watched me shoot it at one of the Smith and Wesson indoor matches a few weeks ago. He made a point to tell me that he was impressed with the comp and that the thing did not appear to recoil. (it doesn't). Needless to say I think he was impressed with the function of the gun. I have put about 3K round through it and it works great. I keep my OAL to 1.145 and it feeds fine, even in the 29 round 170mm mags. A sub 3 lb. trigger, very short reset, and the slide "tightening" that they do is very noticeable. The custom stippled grip work is very comfortable as well. A great shooter that shoots cheap 9mm range brass all day long.
  4. The only thing that would have topped this is if he would have video taped himself doing it. Pretty funny stuff.
  5. About 250 .45 mixed with 200 .40 mixed with about 100 ish 9mm rounds picked up at the range and thrown into the tumbler. (brain cramp) 3 hours later... cases stuck in cases stuck in cases! It took me a good hour to get things sorted out and "unstuck". ug! I will never do that again! How about you?
  6. Yes, one optic would put you in the class they call "scoped tactical".
  7. I got mine form S & J, it is a cut down 33 mag to fit the 170mm limit. Holds 29.
  8. rock, paper, scissors.. " low 5" ha!
  9. Coming from Maine, my ammo mailing budget was kinda hefty. I sent 1,000 rounds of .223 and sent 300 of it home. I sent 600 rounds of .45 and sold off about 150 at the range. I sent 450 rounds of #7 shot and left 25 rounds at the range. I purchased on site 30 rounds of 00 buck and spent time picking up other discared rounds from the ankle deep hulls on stage 1&2. (BRING BUCK!) I didn't focus to much on the "game" aspect of the stages, rather I was caught up in the event of shooting.. Most of the stages I didn't care what my time was AS long as I didn't time out or get DQ'ed for something stupid. This year, I will play the game more. Forget uspsa round counts, this match is a survival test of your gear (and you). I seem to recall several stages with 40 rounds of shot, 50 rounds of pistol and maybe 65 rounds of rifle. That is.... if you don't miss. My squad was following the Elpers and Burkett squad through the match, and as I recall, there were quite a few shotguns and blasters that just stopped working due to the high round counts, weather and dusty.. dusty sandy conditions. +1 A lot of guys were ripping off rounds at those distance targets. However, it was rewarding to clang two at 605 yards with the ACOG + 16" with wolf 55 grain ammo. Sinistral, You forgot to mention to these guys that the 605 and 500 yard tagets were uphill shots to boot!
  10. That is extacly why I made the decision that I did. CR Speed world shoot holster for my Limited G35. * works great * The same holster works for my open g17 made up by S&J Customs. I just need to slide the muzzle cup back. Their sight mount is different that the carver mount, which allows you to save your money for power and JHPs.
  11. +1,000,000 I went last year.. and am hooked. I am looking forward to this year. 5 minutes of straight shooting in a stage, well... that just rocks.
  12. +1 The send it to S&J Custom to make the thing rock!
  13. Sweet. The reset is very very short.
  14. Right on... just *another* STI...........
  15. Hey all, I worked up some rounds in the quest to make Major with this new Open 9AL, and found the following information: Disclaimer: * As always, this data is specific to my gun, measured on my scale, loaded off my press, etc etc.. use as a guide only * 1) Winchester SuperField (WSF) 6.9 grains 125 grain zero bullet = PF = 166.335 7.0 grains 125 grain zero bullet = PF = 166.4125 7.1 grains 125 grain zero bullet = PF = 168.66 Hodgson HS6 8.2 grains 125 grain zero bullet = PF = 164.041 (NOT MAJOR) 8.3 grains 125 grain zero bullet = PF = 165.335 8.4 grains 125 grain zero bullet = PF = 167.1843 8.5 grains 125 grain zero bullet = PF = 171.0825 Dillon Square Deal B press Dillon Electronic Scale Zero JHP 125 bullets Winchester Brass (Once fired) Winchester Primers OAL : 1.146 Reloading room temp: 65 degrees Range Temp when crono'd: 32 degrees PACT IV chrono S&J Custom G17 Major 9 AL with KKM barrel
  16. I forget the name of the game that we played in college, but we would get a group of guys together from a dorm floor and make a list and exchange names. When you drew someones name you had to kill them with a squirt gun. Class rooms were off limits, but everywhere else was fair game. I remember waiting for this guy to get out of class. Our eyes met outside of the class room and the firefight was on. Back then they thought we were nuts. These days they might lock your ass up. I worked in the caffateria and carried my pistol to work. More than one firefight in the lunch room. I hate to say it, but it was truly an adrenaline rush. You were paranoid of getting hit all of the time. I finished one of those rounds in second place. Ah, the good ole' days. Rick Was that game maybe called "Assassin"? Serious thread drift... I believe the version I played was called (un-pc) "killer", designed by Steve Jackson Games. I had the actual manual. Man, thinking outloud, playing that or even having the manual in school these days would not be fun/easy to explain.
  17. I did some looking in the rules, IPSCRifle Rules, January 2004 Edition 5.1.3.2 “Optical/electronic sights” are aiming devices which use electronic circuitry and/or lenses. 5.1.7 Competitors must use the same rifle and type of sights for all courses of fire in a match. However, in the event that a competi- tor’s original rifle and/or sights become unserviceable or unsafe during a match, the competitor must, before using a substitute rifle and/or sights, seek permission from the Range Master who may approve the substitution provided he is satisfied.
  18. I noticed the same thing this morning. (Sunny, 33 degrees, 15 mph wind, 6" of snow...what am I doing crono'ing rounds??) I had the timer right on the same shooting bench and was getting the "screens triggered together" error. Moved cables apart, plugged them in and out, turn off and turn on the device. I had a brain storm and put the timer in its case and on the ground a few feet from me. Worked fine after that.
  19. Looks like a fun one. If you get the stage description, etc, please be sure to share. It looks like a hoot.
  20. Great idea on the bullet and case "feeders" for your SDB, Rocket35! -Chet +1 LOVE IT!
  21. +1 Much better to spend more on the scope. You have to figure you will be running, diving to prone, you want your optics to be able to stay up to the task. Save the $ and get a good scope.
  22. That means we would have had to use cut and paste....
  23. A proper stage should have the fault line for steel set back at least 8 yards away, therefore the shooter can over run the fault line and get assessed a proceedural, but yet stay shooting the match as they are more than the 7 yards established for safety reasons.
