  1. 3-5 boxes of 9mm is lighter than 3-5 boxes of .40 in the range bag.
  2. That's pretty trick, obviously you see value in the airsoft pistol as a training tool. Mind giving some pros and cons for using it in backyard training? I'm considering trying one out.
  3. I think that depends on who does the stippling. I've seen some complete hack jobs of both. The SC I've seen done by reputable companies (IE Zev) looks pretty good. For OP, you should definitely put your hands on both prior to deciding. I used to be pretty insistent on stippling for plastic guns, however for 9mm I use a factory frame unless it's extremely hot (sweaty hands) or raining these days. For .40 I use a stippled frame, but I'm planning on SC for my next one.
  4. I just bought a Stock 2 as well. Also using a Glock, not planning on competing with it until next season, but figured I start building it out now. Just messing around with it my perceptions were: -draw is slower out of the box, probably .1-.2 slower, also the different grip angle effects presentation. Going back to my Glock after playing around with the Stock 2 and my front sight was appearing way above the rear for the first couple draws. Definitely not going to practice with the Tanfoglio until I'm happy with the mods I'm doing and ready to dump the Glock for good. -reloads immediately about the same speed. I'm about 1.3 with either gun at this point, not sure if it's because I'm slow that there isn't a big difference. -transitions and drills such as blake, el prez etc are hard to read, dry-fire is different with the DA 1st shot and then not letting the trigger reset for subsequent shots. Seemed about on par. -The gun is HEAVY, recoil is kind of a joke with the G34 shooting gamer ammo, it seems like it will be non-existent with a gun this heavy. -the ergos really support getting the support hand into a vise grip for me. More so than the Glock I feel like clamping down comes very naturally, so going along with the above, I imagine that this gun will be shooting very easy once I get it dialed. -feels like there is more room for bigger hands, very comfortable, and the beavertail says no more Glock thumb. -fit and finish are good. I would say top notch if the the checkering wasn't kind of shitty, apart from that it looks and feels every bit as good as my STI 2011. -prior to shooting the Glock I shot a Beretta (not in competition) for several years, so I've had some level of experience with DA/SA, I don't anticipate a problem once I get the trigger dialed. My digital trigger gauge is in the mail, so I don't have the poundage yet, but DA seems real heavy, 10# plus, and there is some "stacking." SA is light enough and buttery smooth out of the box. There's enough threads on here of baller Tanfo triggers that I don't anticipate a problem getting it dialed. I'm not a USPSA shredder, but am planning on shooting two more major matches this year, so I figure I'll wait to switch until after those. More because I think that a Tanfo will require more work to get set up and I don't want to rush it and end up with a bad taste for the gun trying to shoot it in a sub-optimal configuration. My unrefined technique isn't going to take months to get used to a new gun, maybe a couple weeks.
  5. Just picked up a new S2, marked 2016, so I'm guessing it's the new version. Everything looks great except the checkering. More attention to detail on the checking of the barbell I have in my garage than the front/back straps of the Tanfo. Other than that it feels very good in hand, natural, and VERY heavy.
  6. It's $877 vs $873 at Buds. Four dollars isn't a good reason for me to choose a gun. Anyone prefer a stock 3 over 2 that has shot both.... If so why?
  7. I shot two matches last weekend. On Saturday every stage was 32 rounds except the classifier. On Sunday there was a mix from 20-30 rounds per stage. Both had stages that I thought were awesome and others that were just "there." I don't think the round count is that big of a factor in how fun or challenging a stage is. Some 32 round stage offer little in regards to challenge or creativity, and some make my brain hurt during the stage walk.
  8. Has anyone been using the Dual Illuminated RMR? It seems like it would be cool to never have to worry about making ready and having a dead battery. On the other hand the Vortex offerings are about half the price and I've had good luck with the Strike Eagle on my AR.
  9. I shot production with a G35 several times while getting my Glock 34 sorted out for production. I initially used Zev uncaptured springs (the colored ones) with a steel guide rod and had all sorts of trouble, mostly not feeding. After getting down to a 12# Zev spring I began encountering the slide not going all the way back into battery. The uncaptured springs seemed to wear down excessively fast and unevenly (the coils would get blown out and lopsided). I switched to an IMSI spring on a captured guide rod and haven't had any issues since. I was using 13# pounds while using the gun for production with minor ammo and have since switched to a 15# IMSI spring with good results using major ammo. *Edited to add, this was with a standard slide and barrel.
  10. Thanks for the advice... I've been shooting factory rounds with my glocks with no issues. I saw that the ammo I've been generally using was 1.125 OAL, and had several failure to feed issues during my first day at the range with the DVC. I've never had to pay much attention to ammo beyond what felt the best in recoil, so this will be new to me. I probably wont begin loading my own ammo in the near future unless I simply can't get anything to run reliably. I will find some longer rounds per your advice though.
  11. Thanks for the magazine advice, I've ordered an additional 2 STI factory mags for a total of four, along with two sets of 11 coil springs, followers and base pads to experiment with.
  12. Thanks, it was the only .40 DVC in the shop, ( backwater guns in Wilmington, NC). They had a 9mm for the same price.
  13. Thanks, I'll probably start with STI and see how that goes. It's almost the same cost to get a mag vs just the tube anyway.
  14. So I found a DVC for 2300 and scooped it up. I have mostly shot production, but have done a few limited matches with my G35. Obviously I'll be focusing on limited shooting now, what are the must haves? Can I expect good results using the STI mags (one or two more at 63 bucks each is pretty easy vice another 600 for 4 Brazos tuned mags)? I'm thinking a race master holster with my ghost 360 pouches for now. Upgrading my mag pouches seems to be my lowest priority right now. I'm used to guns that are pretty easy to keep going, do I need a bunch of spare parts and springs in my range bag? Thanks for the help.
  15. I went with the 17 for a carry optics platform as well. It's a gen 3, and decided to use it out of the guns I have for three reasons: -I hate shooting Gen 3 glocks without a beavertail, and I believe I can add one for carry optics -I'm not concerned about sight radius -The total initial entry cost was a JPoint slide mount, as I have a holster set up for G34 production, I've owned the G17 for over a decade and had a JPoint 4 MOA sitting around from an old AR build. If I decide I like carry optics then I'll have the slide milled for a red dot and possibly invest in a better/bigger RDS. Regardless I'm interested in furthering Carry Optics discussion, since it's mostly been the haters being vocal, but I think the division sounds like a blast.
  16. Yes. There should be 4 extra backstraps. Two beaver tails and two non, each will have a medium and large. The jig that holds them together should have the longer pin, on the side of the jig. Thanks!
  17. Is there a longer pin that comes with them. I bought my 35 new, however the beaver tail seems to come off pretty easy, enough so that I wouldn't want to run it in a match.
  18. I started out with the Zev springs and ended up with IMSI 13 and 15# enclosed springs. I felt the uncaptured versions were less reliable. I'm using the Zev adapter ring as well. As many have said I'm using the 15 for major and 13 for minor, but at the price I would recommend trying both with your bullets.
  19. Thanks all. I'm not reloading yet, since I mostly practice production, I can get away with off the shelf ammo.
  20. G35 in limited and a G34 in production. I have a Stag 3G and the Mossberg JM as well. I plan on picking up a versamax in the near future.
  21. Hello all, I've started shooting USPSA and 3 gun in the last six months. I'm really enjoying it, bouncing around between production and limited for pistol matches and practical in 3 gun. I've enjoyed reading the boards and have learned quite a bit. Thanks for all the info. -Slow
