  1. But about Single Stack division.... Mr. Sevigny made a great comeback ánd showed that minor is very competitive in Single Stack by finishing second in the Classic Nats.. let's start that discussion again! No, just kidding... But really great that Dave did so well, and that he's back in the game. Nils won it, but he's not from this planet... Maybe it was me and my connection, but I could not find a live stream for these nationals.... Would 've been fun to see a little bit of action....
  2. Yeah I heard about their excellent quality service! The gunsmith who added the dot to my slide had one Venom break and had a new one in the mailbox 4 days later! And that's here in the Netherlands. And his own Vortex Venom, which is on his glock, is running great for a very long time already! Just to let you guys in on a little secret... the Vortex Venom is € 299,- and the allmighty Trijicon SRO is € 849,- over here in the Netherlands..... € 849,- for a red dot...... A very good red dot, apparently, but still......
  3. yesterday I picked up an old but in good condition CZ SP-01 Shadow and had a Vortex Venom cut into the slide. Really soft shooting, and cheap option! let's see how long this Vortex Venom is gonna last....
  4. Thing is.... I live in the Netherlands... sending it to C-more is a bit challenging. But honestly, I never had problems with it. Only at this match when I put a top brand 'Duracell' long life battery in it.... when it failed, I immediately replaced it with my 'normal' cheep batteries, and it ran for the rest of the match. Training yesterday with that same battery, 200 rounds, not a single hickup, as usual. So I've got my answer.... as long as I stick with these cheepo batteries, I'm good.
  5. Guys, any change anyone could make a picture of what size o-ring and how exactly I should place this under the battery tray?
  6. Hi guys, just a quick question on this topic. I was running cheap batteries in my RTS2 on my open gun without any problems. I was dumb enough to buy other big name brand batteries on the day of the match and exchange the battery. The dot worked fine, except for on the long course halfway through it started strobing and then switched off.... Changed it out to another 'cheap' battery and no more problems... Now my questions... what kind of 'spacer' do some of you guys use? Can I just cut out a round piece of electrical tape and stick it to the battery to make it slightly thicker? Or is there a better way?
  7. Yeah, I clean them after every shooting session. I can't help it. It actually bothers me to know there is a dirty gun in the safe. I really enjoy having a completely clean gun, nicely oiled, all smooth... very OCD but hey.. it makes me happy. plus, I only shoot 1911's / 2011.... and these ladies will get mad at me if I don't clean them.
  8. Yes, the buff in fact short strokes the slide a bit. I use the blue plastic buffs. With my 1911's in 9mm this 'disables' the sling-shot method for slide-lock reloads, but I use the slide stop on slide-lock reloads so no problem there. The Limited and Open 2011's don't stay open on empty mags so no problem there. I have tried to see / feel the difference between shooting with or without a buff. I do not notice a difference to be honest. A fellow Classic shooter in the Netherlands does use lighter bullets, light recoil spring and buffs to short stroke and create a shorter/faster cycle and seems really satisfied with this set up. Again for me, it's difficult to notice any significant change.
  9. I have buffs in my two competition 1911's in 9mm, in my .40 limited 2011 and in my Open 9 major. None of them have ever given any problems after many thousands of rounds. So as they are not causing any problems for me, why not use them, right? It will for sure dampen impact so, good thing, right?
  10. This thread is useless without pics... In other words... you gotta show that beautiful custom Bul of yours...
  11. I've tried... but I haven't tried hard enough.... so I failed. Of course I shoot both eyes open when shooting Open division, Hell, that's the whole reason I bought an open gun, so I could get used to shooting with both eyes open and translate that to Iron sights, but I really can't do it... I've committed to both eyes open during dry fire for about a week... and failed.... and did it again a few months later... and failed.... I find it very difficult to shoot with both eyes open with iron sights... but as can be read above, that's mostly because I'm not committed enough. So it's still one-eye-closed shooting for me, unfortunately.....
  12. Hi ZZT, even if you search this forum, you will find several hits regarding the tight chamber Springfield sometimes has. And undoubtedly not every pistol has this problem, but seriously, it's not just my conclusion. The chamber was actually measured and was found to be quite a bit tighter than other pistols. I am talking about the 9mm version of the 1911's from Springfield. I don't know if it's the same for .45's. Factory ammo was not a problem at all, but my handloads and that of my shooting buddies would not pass chamber-check. And we've tested the same ammo in my Trojan, my STI Custom with Schuemann barrel, A Beretta and two TSO's and this gave no problems. The reloaded ammo would even pass a case gauge but not fit in the Springer. I then decided to send it to a gunsmith. He did the same check with his ammo and concluded the same after measuring the chamber. But anyways, after I had this issue, I found several others on-line, including here on BENOS with the same problem. I guess we're just the unlucky few then. But as mentioned earlier in this thread, we pay so much for a new Springfield RO Elite here (€ 1.650,- which is US 1,850.-) and then you get a pistol that is simply not as good as other options of about the same price.
  13. No, I don't need to resize my cases better. This is a known problem for Springfield. My hand loads have been tested in 3 more 1911's in 9mm and two CZ TSO's without issues. I had to have the chamber reamed. Here in Europe you get a Bul for almost the same money as a Springfield but the Bul has: - front strap checkering - higher raised beavertail - trigger guard undercut - better trigger from the factory And please don't get me wrong. I really like Springfields but when you want to use it for IPSC / USPSA, the Bul pistols are more suitable. The list above are need-to-haves in my book for competition pistols, and Springfield does not offer it unless you pay big money for the way more expensive models.
  14. You could get a Springfield from TheDuke in Germany. They have many in stock. But to be honest... I have a Springfield Range Officer Elite in 9mm and bought it for IPSC Classic division: - hammer, sear, disco are crap... very bad trigger from factory with MIM parts. - Chamber is so tight you can't shoot your reloaded ammo - Horrible beavertail and no undercut under the trigger guard so you can't get a high purchase on the gun. - no front strap checkering. So to be honest... we pay € 1.600,- for a new one... and it's crap. I also have an old STI Trojan with large Horsey logo and Large roll mark. It's a superb gun, but has everything changed out to high-end parts, so that doesn't count..... You can't get Dan Wesson PM's here. The Bul guns are really good for the money. Really... and the Bull Trophy 1911 guns are quite close to race-ready. My next choice would be a STP or a HPS. They now have very very nice race-ready 1911's on their website.... but they're over € 2.000,-
  15. I shoot 1911's and 2011's and I clean them after every session. mostly because I like clean guns, and it just bothers me if they're dirty. I enjoy nice pistols and revolvers, and therefore I want them to look good as well. To me they are not just a tool. Plus I know of a few guys shooting 1911's and not cleaning their guns... Their guns don't run. (Also because their knowledge of the platform is limited, but still)
  16. I had a buddy this week ask me about my Cheely E2 grip... if it was less 'blocky' / square than a standard plastic 2011 grip, and it is. The front strap is much more rounded which makes it easier to grip for smaller hands. Also the shape under the beavertail give more 'room' which enables a better grip as well.
  17. I've used a nylon brush, but it was far from perfect, unfortunately.
  18. I use a GRX Push-through die before I start the reloading process, and all I have is range pick-up brass.
  19. @ ltdmstr I actually had to install a 'normal' firing pin for the match last Sunday as I did not have an extended one spare. I had no issues with light primer strikes at all. To explain further; when I was experiencing light primer strikes a couple months ago, I in fact installed a new and heavier 19 lbs main spring and an extended firing pin. Apparantly the change of the main spring would have been sufficient, so I'm gonna keep it like this.
  20. Thanks for the great tips, guys! My wife has a hot glue gun, so I'll go that route first.
  21. Hi guys, The following might be common knowledge for some or most, but definitely not for me. So just wanted to share this experience. I was dry firing last night and to finish off, I did some slide lock reloads with dummy rounds. ( my dummy rounds are simply rounds without a primer) The last dummy round was stuck in the chamber. My dummy rounds NEVER get stuck in the chamber.... so that was already weird.. I grabbed the slide and hit the frame with my other hand and the round popped out. Okay, all done. Gun in the safe and off to bed. This morning wanted to dry fire again and as I pull the trigger, the sound is different.... I take a closer look and see that the firing pin no longer protrudes from the firing pin stop plate. It's stuck forward! As I take it apart I see that the end of my extended firing pin is bent! What I didn't know, is that there is a possibility that the extended firing pin gets stuck in the channel beyond the primer pocket! That was the reason the round was 'stuck' in the chamber! As the firing pin was stuck in the case, the barrel could not unlock and move downwards. As I grabbed the slide and slammed the frame, the barrel was forced downwards, which bent the firing pin, as it was still stuck in the case. I must have pulled the trigger on a dummy round like this a million times... but apparantly this can happen! Sooo.... I will be making a new set of dummy rounds with the spent primers still in the case to prevent this from happening again. Maybe this will help some other unknowing fool like me.... Hahahaha!
  22. Yeah... it's not good. Very disappointing.... They could have at least showed different stages each day. it's no fun at all..... I just go to the youtube version and fast forward through it to see any 'interesting' shooters... but even then, there's not much to see and the audio sucks...
  23. I live in the Netherlands.... We have around 10 to 15 matches PER YEAR. Getting signed up for a match is a victory in itself as all matches are full within a minute.... I've been shooting matches since 2016..... and I try to sign up for EVERY match.... My total is 25 matches..... total.... I'm so jealous.....
  24. Hi guys, Please forgive me if this is already common knowledge... I really enjoyed being able to watch a live stream from Hunters HD Gold of the Super Squad during the 2020 Racegun Nationals. So with the upcoming Lo Cap nationals in mind, I sent Brian from Hunters HD Gold an email to see if they were planning to do something similar this time. He informed me that via USPSALive the Lo Cap nationals will be streamed live! I just thought that was great news, and wanted to share with you guys.... I live in the Netherlands and we've been in a Lock down since December last year, not being able to shoot... so anything USPSA / IPSC shooting related I can watch is very, very, very welcome.....
