  1. Got the new shell plate today for the 1050/38. The old one was .054, new one .058. Out of 40 cases that wouldn't feed into the old plate, all but 2 fed into the new plate. Plus there was a LOT of the original 1st loading that had a lot of drag feeding on the first pass. They should feed with no issues from now on. Hard to beat Dillon for loading. In case you were wondering, put 2 feeler guage strips together to check the case head cut. .030 and .028
  2. Short colts in hearthcos is exactly what i have planned for the 929. I am betting that will be the ticket.. You heard it here first.... floppy 9mm's will be good..... I am still staking claim that the short colts will reign supreme in the 929 It pretty much ruined the brass in one shot when I tried .38 sc in my .38 super.. It is the weakest brass with the thinnest web of anything I have tried. Someone needs to try cutting onto a .38 special and .357 case and see if they are stronger/thicker. If so, cut them to whatever length you can and try those..... When I went at this "cutting them down" thing, I grabbed a bunch of brass from our local range. A little Winchester, more than a few Federals, and a few more Remy's. The Winchester's won't fit on a thick moon - .025. When you shove a 158 Berry's down in a Remy, you hit a ridge just before you get where you want to be, and hard bulge the case. The Federals are juuuuuust right. The case thickness seems to be the same all the way down. I also tried to cut down a few Federal 357's. NOT The case thickness is a couple thou over the special case, disasterville. I'm just a beginner at this, but I have 9 lbs of 310.
  3. For caution, I checked the Hornady reload book, again it lists 38 rims at .058. And 357's at .060. Called Dillon today and passed on my experiences. They said they would send a new shell plate tomorrow, with shipping label to return the original. These guys are a total delight to deal with!
  4. In this revolver business there is always something new - sometimes good and sometimes bad. Trying to get loaded up for Alabama and just finished fighting some more Fed brass thru the 1050 shell plate. Out of 500 rounds, 15 (previously loaded) jammed in the plate. I finally decided to mike the rim cuts and they are .054. Looking at my Winchester load manual, they list the rim at .058. Looks like I'll be having a conversation with Dillon in the morning.
  5. It's been well over a month (maybe 2?) since the whole 929 thingy appeared, and then disappeared. Anyone have any new info? It's interesting to see movies of the actual gun, and actually see it being shot, and there still isn't any out there for the common man.
  6. and the sun not shining when you need it, like for the last 5 shooters of the day
  7. im noticing that too. Whats with that ? Are the tolerences in the 1050 shell plate that much tighter ? Out of 1000 cut down Federal 38spl cases, I had 13 that wouldn't fit in the 1050 shell plate. They slide right in a Lee single stage holder. On the other side of that coin, the case heads on those 13 are definitly thicker, so maybe it's a blessing, and now there is no chance of a thick case head dragging on the recoil plate? Yep, that's what I'm going with.
  8. And also, I'm using Federal brass only, with a new 38 shell plate, and 1 in 75 of the case heads is too thick to fit in the shell plate so I'm tossing them as I run into them in this 1st pass on the brass. holler back if it works/don't work and we'll figure it out.
  9. For the short colts, you're going to need the 9mm colored plastic case feed tube (the piece that fits in the top of the feeder, that the tube fits into). I'm using 22mm brass, and I had to go with the .40 feed tube. The machine has to know what length the brass is, or it gets all pissed off.
  10. I ordered some Rottweil P803 from my supplier, when I opened the box there was a puppy peeing on my floor............
  11. I'm having a problem understanding some of this. Modern 357 chambers are designed for 40,000+ psi, the hottest 9mm loads are right at 32,000 with 147gr bullets. Why is the jump to 158gr in a 9mm case (38 SC) at minor pf considered a problem?
  12. Happy Birthday from south of the border.........the Georgia/Florida border that is. Many many happy returns, FordyceTacTickleTravelingTeam
  13. I'm thinking there is a plus beyond new shooters in USPSA. With shooters playing with 8shot minor, I'm thinking they will be playing on the steel matches more with the extra make up shots.
  14. http://www.alliancearmament.com/alliancearmament30rddrum.aspx I just pasted this......I used standard library paste and it works fine.
  15. Stay calm! Take a breath....... There will be 2 more IRONs in the matches next year
  16. Everyone would like to "build" a 1911, but what they actually wind up doing is "assembling" a 1911. They may have to fit a part or two because of some manufacturing variances. They finally get the gun together and it hand cycles smoothly, they hand cycle some rounds thru it and it feeds and cycles smoothly, they run a few mags of rounds thru it at the range and it runs smoothly. Sorry, but that ain't anywhere near good enough. Read this and understand it. At least read it to the point that you can test the timing on your "assembly". I replaced a barrel in my Springfield .45 about 15 years ago, everything was super fine - I swear at 5000 rounds (plus or minus 6) it tore the barrel feet off and locked the gun. I was lucky and found Schumenn's first rendition of the "timing" instructions, and the next barrel went 125k. good luck http://schuemann.com/Portals/0/Documentation/Webfile_1911%20Timing.pdf
  17. We're basically 10 days away from a totally fun match. I know you are totally busy, however, it would be nice to know the scoring system for the match. I'm also seeing you only plan to recognize open, limited, and production? So if we shoot revo or SS, we're just doing it for fun? ain't it funny how time just keeps marching along......
  18. Looking thru the rules to see where a 1x optic fits - aimpoints and prismatics - and it looks like they fit in the mil spec division. However the rule states "fixed magnification", not 1x. To me "fixed" would be aimpoints and acogs in 4x and 6x, and a few other scopes. It sorta looks like a 1x will be up against magnified scopes?
