I got a tub of the Slide Glide light and love it. Makes things slide so easy. I coat about everything with it. Coating everything does make for a bigger mess to clean up after shooting, but it does clean easy!
  2. 4.8 would be low with 200gn. In my manual most lead loads call for at least 5.0. The one exception is a fmj hp.
  3. I found 4.5 was my most accurate so far with blue bullets 230gn. There was quite a bit of muzzle flash though so I'm trying 700x, bullseye, and unique instead.hoping bullseye fits the bill.
  4. Hope I don't have any problems with my Winchester white box. Otherwise I may need to order a spring set from CGW. Wonder if the Tulammo Brass I have would be a better choice?
  5. All depends on what the customer demands. If the customer has a certain level of expectation then you take care of those needs. Personally, it boils down to appearance for me. I really don't care that parts of the inside of the slide or frame didn't get coated. It's all going to be covered in grease or oil anyway. BUT, one factor I usually consider when making a purchase is resale value. Anything that looks little used will get higher dollars than something that looks well worn, carried, and used a ton. I do not plan on selling this, but should I meet that eventuality, I have to factor in a greater loss. The slide is tight on the frame though, so the poster above who said they fit the slide to the frame is probably spot on. Hopefully they did a good job of fitting. One thing to consider though, will the 22 conversion still fit without issue if the OE slide had to be custom fitted? I'm on now to tuning for best performance. After mentioning that I plan on sending the gun back for custom work, several people told me to try the work myself to get to know the gun inside and out. At this point I don't even have the proper punches, so if anyone knows the best source to get the correct punches I would appreciate it. My guess is that most people would say CZ Custom.
  6. I don't have an answer for that yet. I was going to go to the range last Wednesday with it and second guessed myself. Then I was going to go Black Friday but figured I better wait for an answer from the seller first. As I am having minor surgery tomorrow, I am now thinking closer to this coming weekend.
  7. Just got off the phone with the seller who had another gun from the same batch still in the shop. He stripped it down, and while it did not have the same amount of wear that mine appears to have, he did describe some of the same wear appearance that I have on mine, especially on the inside of the slide. He noted that CZ used to send the barrels without any coating and that they used to just be all steel where now they apply the black coating. He also noted that the inside parts of the frame and slide either get coated very little, or in some areas none at all. This was evident to me when I was inspecting the frame on my gun. Also, since they do not have a storefront and are a custom shop, I don't believe that customers would have caused any of the wear. He confirmed a ship date from CZ of 10/1 of this year so there was very little time in which it could have gotten the wear. Some have mentioned holster wear or other scratches. I have honestly not noticed that myself and think that the lights may have been making the photos look slightly different than they were. I can only attest to the fact that the apparent wear I photographed was as bad as it looks in the photos. As this was purchased from a very trusted shop according to members on this forum, and after speaking with the shop, I firmly believe that this is how CZ shipped it. As such, I do plan on sending this back in the spring for some custom work. On to CZ, if I didn't already have this in my hand I certainly don't think I would have purchased it based on the perceived quality. That may change once I get a chance to put some bullets through the barrel though, and I may become their biggest fan. So, to sum it all up, this is apparently a CZ quality control issue.
  8. The description was "Factory New". I've seen other sellers label things as salemen demo models before. I missed out on one of those a month back for $515.
  9. Thanks for the feedback guys. I sent an email to the seller on Friday. If I do not hear back today by early afternoon I will give them a call. I did check the S/N and it is the same on the gun frame and slide as the case. Not sure what I could find out with the SN though.
  10. Good deal! I got my press without grabbing the strong mount and wound up waiting to get everything assembled. IMHO they should just raise the price of the loader a little and then include the strong mount. It allows you to place the press a couple inches further back on the bench and it has more stability.
  11. The problem with automotive paint, unless it is in a premix rattle can, it is SUPER EXPENSIVE. The government has created so many regulations that even the cheap enamel isn't so cheap anymore. I had to buy some last year and would have spent almost $300 on the cheap stuff, so I just bought a decent grade base/clear and spent $500 instead. Should be able to get the blue from the local parts store, and if that fails, a place like Summit racing would have it.
  12. OK, I managed a few photos. This is what I am talking about. I have never seen anything like this on a brand new gun. 2014-11-27 10.41.19 by mikeinctown, on Flickr 20141127_103428 by mikeinctown, on Flickr 2014-11-27 10.39.58 by mikeinctown, on Flickr
  13. When I first started I couldn't figure out why things seemed to be binding and it was because I had the bar going right to left through the linkage instead of left to right.
  14. I'm wondering what your experiences are when buying your new CZs. I'm wondering if my experience is typical or not. (also see photos below) I picked up my new SP-01 from the FFL yesterday and after I got home and field stripped it I was pretty surprised at how it looked. The barrel finish had already been worn off along the barrel, as if the factory had given it a workout pre shipping. None of my Sigs that I have range time with show anywhere near the wear that the new CZ has out of the box. (in fact my Sigs show no wear yet except for a partial smile on my P226 barrel) I also noticed that areas of the slide where the slide mates with the frame are bare metal and have no finish either, along with the portion of the slide where the barrel slides through. In fact, now that I think about it, the poly coat on this one seems far less thick than the poly coat I saw on the SP-01 that I had checked out at a show a month back. To be honest, if this hadn't come rom a trusted seller, I would have thought I was sent a used gun rather than a new one. The one other thing that keeps me from thinking the gun is used is the outside chamber portion is unscathed and there are no marks or wear on the feed ramp. BTW, I cannot believe how strong the slide return spring is. Either I've gotten very weak in the couple weeks since I've shot last, or CZ really likes strong springs.
  15. Sorry for the late response. I will most likely play IDPA in either SSP or ESP though I may get involved in another organization. Either way it would be mostly stock. (Would love to eventually shoot a tactical sport) Anyway, I've seen the Mec Gar mags in the different capacities as well as the regulations CZ mags. So far it looks like the nickel plated is better than the anti friction coating they advertise. I've also read that CZ Custom sells replacement springs that are better than the stock stuff.
  16. My new SP-01 is due in Monday and it comes with the high capacity mags. I do plan on getting into shooting with one of the organizations and was wondering what the preferred or legal magazines are for the CZ? Also, would the choice be the same for the shadow? Last, I see people getting replacement springs and followers as well as aluminum basepads. What are the preferred parts of the setup? I guess I'm looking to figure out what parts you guys all use in order to get reliability and proper function and capacity and still be legal.
  17. Are Federal Gold Match LPP worth the extra $5/1000 over a standard Federal? $35 vs $30 per 1k for me in LPP. In SPP the Federals are $24/1k but they do not have the Gold Match SPP.
  18. Not sure what you mean by this. Based on the volumetric density chart I have, a measure giving you a 4.3 GR charge of Titegroup should give about a 3.4 GR charge of Bullseye. Is that about what you found? As long as the powder is stored properly it should last decades... I also find it VERY hard to believe that he is getting the same charge out of both powders without re-adjusting the measure. I'm also looking at using more BE per charge in my .45 than I am using with TiteGroup.
  19. Thomas, this entire thread is based on the question regarding if it is acceptable to drop a loaded magazine. the rule as states clearly deals with it, and go so far as to define a specific malfunction. Are there other malfunctions that can possibly happen to a gun, well I guess a frame could crack in half but then that rule probably wouldn't apply and the OP wouldn't have asked his specific question. Your arguments are pointless as they do not deal with the original question where a specific rule in the book does. I've read other posts of yours in the IDPA section and they are spot in, in my opinion, but on this one you want to continue arguing a wrong point and continue to come up with a discussion which is not being discussed. You want to keep splitting hairs on a bald man. Also, your difinition of a stovepipe is NOT discussed in this rule because a stovepipe is NOT ammunition, it is a spent case. The rule specifically talks about AMMUNITION involved in the malfuction, not one of your other scenarios.
  20. Thomas, GOF is correct. The question of a stovepipe as you describe is neither spoken about with this rule nor is it discussed in this thread. And as much as you want to claim that the rule is for the SO, it equally applies to the shooter as well because it explains what they may do without incurring a penalty. Also notice it says that when clearing ammunition, not clearing jams, stovepipes, or other types of malfunctions. The wording of the rule does indeed imply that one should clear the potentially bad ammo, discard it, and will incur no penalty if doing so.
  21. From the description I don't see why there would be an issue as the pistol is factory and was designated as a shadow. It would have a shadow serial number as well. The fact that the factory stamped the slide differently should not matter as long as it was this way from the factory. The slide appears to be the same, with the exception of it not being marked SP-01. I would think this may be common among manufacturers as model lines get changed. (I've seen an M&P model with 9m barrel marked with a 40S&W slide.) <edit> Now that I've taken a look at the gun I wish I would have noticed it before ordering an SP-01 on Sunday.
  22. Wow, you got all that from my statement? Fascinating... I don't see that I made a claim or judgement as to whether or not companies were correct in farming out different work. I simply stated the fact that CZ Customs and CZ-USA are different companies. The Performance Center is NOT a different company than S&W. That's it! I'm not sure why you read more into it than that. I must have more into what you were saying then, because you made the reference more than a few times that one company was owned by and one was not, so that was the justification for the distinction between legality and not. I was trying to clarify the position that a contract between two companies is an affiliation that can mean the same thing legally, especially when those products are all part of your catalog and dealership network.
  23. Thomas, I'm only getting into shooting now and trying to decide on which organization I want to go with, but I have to say that you really appear to be trolling here. The rule as you posted is pretty plain as to its language and inference. If a malfunction happens you clear the ammo and discard it without a penalty. It should go without saying that if you clear the ammo and discard it, that you would want to put a new magazine in to continue, especially in an organization that uses time as one of the competitive aspects. im sure if you were at the range you may do some inspection or clear one round and try again, but in a defensive situation, or in a competition, it should go without saying that you don't want to fumble around, but rather just get the job done and move on as fast as possible. I would go far as to say that someone shouldn't be around guns if the language isn't clear enough.
  24. Even if you use one case at a time you will probably only notice that you get .003-.005 variation depending on bullet and case lube use. What I have found is that the only die I have had to go back to and adjust is the bullet seating die because that did change when I had the press full of cases. (by that .005) By lubing the cases slightly, I've narrowed my variation to .003 or less and that is with coated lead. I am using Dillon dies in my press if that matters.
  25. I've been too cheap to buy the single case gauge because I want to order the 100 round gauge and keep findng extra things to do with a hundred bucks. In the meantime, when I clean my .45, I sit down with the barrel and go through any rounds I've loaded. I'm actually surprised at how fast you can go through a couple hundred rounds. Maybe I'm getting lucky with a slightly oversized chamber but I haven't had a round not drop right in.
