  1. +1 to that. -ld I will say this -- there's precious little I want to buy so badly I'm willing to stand in line for an hour at the United States Post Office, just to get a money order.
  2. Threw one of these Vibraprime units in the online shopping cart last time at MidwayUSA. After almost two years of "pecking" the difference is amazing.
  3. Good points. I guess it's a perceived value thing. I know in the past I've certainly sold things (not thinking so much of firearms) that have had a great many customized features, or work done, and *never* reclaimed any of that cost, so it was great for the buyer. In my case the work done matches exactly what I'd want: good (non-FO) sights, a new barrel professionally fit, etc. The seller has paperwork documenting the work, and seems honest. Still -- I'm certainly no gunsmith, and beyond something extremely obvious, I have no idea what potential problems might lurk. Spartan sounds reasonable, but I'd like the gun soon, before the Christmas bills sober me, and ~$630 (from a dealer who has one in stock) + shipping + FFL xfer, and we're close to $700, and I'd still need to change the sights. For that, another new Kimber looks tempting.
  4. Kinda in the market for a second single-stack, after selling my Kimber in a brief period of insanity a few months ago. My Les Baer is very nice, but it's like feeding a very spoiled cat; ammo has to be *just* so. Spartan looks interesting, but let's not go down that road, at the moment. Saw an interesting pistol for sale the other day. It's a Norinco 1911 that someone's had a lot of work done to: trigger job, BoMar sights, and Wilson barrel (looks like Wilson Combat, Inc., installed the barrel and tightened the slide to frame fit). Blueing is in good shape, and seems reasonably tight, though I can push down on the barrel hood when it's in battery and get some wiggle in the barrel. Not sure what this means, beyond knowing one is supposed to do this test. It does have a serious "parts-gun" vibe, but the work is documented. Price is firm @ $600, which is starting to get into real money, for sure, so I'm on the fence. My big fear is I'm buying someone else's nightmare. Thx
  5. It's probably a browser setting. If you're using IE 6.* turn "automatic image resizing on ON". It's an option under "tools --> advanced".
  6. Thx, Stuart, and all -- Makes sense, kinda. Sounds like I'm good to go in USPSA Production, and, depending how many parts I want to mess with, could possibly make weight in IDPA SSP, though I doubt I'll bother. I'll check w/Angus on the sight; filing isn't an option because it's a fiber-optic. Steve
  7. I have the opportunity to start shooting an SP01; this is the "Shadow" model sold by Angus and CZ-USA. I've searched and read the thread on the Global Village (and here) re: IPSC Production, but a couple issues are still unclear and I'd appreciate any help. Legality: for *USPSA* Production, am I right in assuming this pistol is legal? What about IDPA? For ESP, I'm confused, because while light-rails are legal, full-length dust-covers aren't, which this pistol seems to have. But for SSP, if it makes weight ( < 39oz) it's legal? I haven't weiged it yet. Shooting: This pistol is very accurate, but I notice it shoots about 3" low at 25y. Unless I somehow shim the rear sight, or replace the FO front sight, I don't see how to correct this. Anyone else with this gun have this issue? I can align the FO dot instead of the blade over the dot, but.... DA/SA pull. I'm not used this, having never had one of these pistols before. Do y'all shift position of the trigger finger after the first (DA) shot? I want less of my finger on the trigger in the SA mode (which really is sweet), but it's hard to pull the first shot smoothly... Thx
  8. I was stunned to get an envelope from my wife containing a round-trip airline ticket to Orlando, and the match entry for the Florida Open '07. )
  9. And then there's the fellow who make a bulk order for dildoes from the adult toy store, prior to the Christmas season. He'd send one along with each gift; the idea was if the recipient didn't like the sweater (or whatever) she or he could always f--- themselves.
  10. Yeah, initially I thought that was the issue, but I think someone at a local shop told me that it wasn't a good idea. This was.. almost 10 years ago. I've been doing it finger tight for that long. Sometimes it comes loose, but I just finger tighten it again and no issues. Vince Bless ye', Vince!! Double-checked again I have the right parts (ie, primer punch, etc.) for .45acp, and wasn't using the .40S&W parts by mistake -- I wasn't. Ran 100 primers through, with no shells, just to see if any were flipping up. They weren't. Removed the primer assembly, and replaced it, but with the screws finger tight. 500 rounds, ZERO upside-down or crushed primers. I think this 'un is licked.
  11. Where are these rules? This is terrible, IMO! I just checked (and can post pictures later, if anyone is curious). CRSpeed "Versa Pouch" with CZ insert and magazine for an SP01. ILLEGAL (>1" by my measurements). CRSpeed "VersaPouch" with SS insert (really, one of the other inserts turned vertically) and an 8-round single-stack magazine. ILLEGAL (>1" for sure). <edit to add (bad) pictures> If this rule is really in the works, I will definately send a letter to my Area Coordinate and copy Mr. Voight. (I'm not talking about the Single Stack DOH issue, but rather this 1" limit that would obsolete CR Speed pouches). Thx 1) Single Stack. This isn't close... 2) CZ. This is right on the edge, depending on how it's measured...
  12. Another bid for NC, but...there are plenty of ya' from NJ already!!! Then again, I'm biased because I could not live more than 3hrs from the ocean. And if I want the mountains, they're 3 hours the other way, living just outside of Raleigh....
  13. A couple months ago, I decided to focus on the DOH as my main holster (and bought 2 of them ), for several reasons, but one of the biggest was being able to have the same holster "feel" for whatever USPSA Division I cared to shoot -- LTD, SS, Production or L10. The DOH was very secure, and seemed "quick enough" with a little practice. On the rare occasions I shoot IDPA, I could convert it....(which is a PITA, if you use LocTite to prevent the post screws from coming loose). Now it ends up not being legal in SS, either, so that's going to require a full commitment to learning another "draw", if I wish to shoot this division; IMO, you can get away with a slower draw, in IDPA, with the concealment garment business.... It kinda sucks; I don't see why SS has to be "tougher" than Production. </whine>
  14. These are some great suggestions...I've used CCI, but mostly only Winchester. However, I do have my primer assembly cranked down *tight* - as hard as I could with the allen wrench. I figured if it were loose, it might contribute to the problem. Maybe just the opposite? I'll experiement tonight.
  15. Yup, use One Shot -- can't live without it. Anyway, I may have spoke too quickly. In the course of boxing the rounds, another 10, or so, had upside primers after all....This is driving me crazy. I have *never* had a problem with this, and .40S&W; only .45acp. During this holiday weekend, I'll try cleaning everything, completely, and seeing if that helps.
  16. Good points, but the primer tubes are fine, and the primer magazine tube is correct for .45acp. Tonight I reloaded a couple hundred, but used a new batch of once-fired brass, and the problem was better, for sure. Maybe 4-5 problems out of 200 instead of 20 or more.
  17. I would be interested, for sure, though I'm still waiting to see if I can work out the match vis-a-vis FF miles... Out of curiosity, does anyone have a feel for how many people are shooting SS this match?
  18. I, uh...<lowering voice> drank from a spring, once.
  19. Thx, Dillon -- just an update. I adjusted the locator arm, properly. I tightened the shellplate, and double-checked the wire, and these adjustments seemed to help, though I still got sideways or upside-down primers....(My brass is normal, commercial stuff). I marked the shell plate, and since it seemed to occur at the same location -- Ah ha! I called Dillon, and received a new plate. Y'all are great. That said, unfortunately, I'm still having problems. At this point, I'm leaning to thinking that the Lee dies, especially the FCD is the culprit. The reloading operation is very 'jerky' with these dies... Dunno.
  20. I think it's a good question, and one I had myself, after winning my class at the VA/MD Sectional, back in early August, this year, and still not receiving a plaque. It's not that big deal, but as Mark Twain said: "How happy the smallest thing makes us, when we feel we've deserved it." I wish all major matches were clear on: 1) Is there a prize ceremony? 2) If not, what happens? If so, what happens if you can't be there?
  21. Seven mag holders on the belt...but the DOH holster isn't designed for every day carry. <grin>
  22. It's complex. At the core is needing to reconcile a desire for shiny new things with the baggage a change entails -- learning a new system, ironing out functional bugs, etc. The "hate" part comes into play because I realize how much rationalization is going on, and that I commit myself prematurely by selling off the old gear. What I want is immediate affirmation that the change is "good", by shooting a great match first time out with a new gun, for example. Doesn't seem to happen to me.
  23. Mike -- just as another data-point, I've used that exact combination of gun, barrel and bullet, but 4.5 grains, and been around 166-171 pf at 3 chronographs (Summer Blast, VA Sectional and NC Sectional); all but the last were pretty warm.
  24. I hate that I keep selling things then wish I hadn't. I hate that I sold all my Glock limited stuff -- basepads, holster, etc, -- anticipating a new 2011 LTD gun which is presumably being built. In the meantime, I figured I'd shoot a 1911 in L-10...Well, I have, and I'm not shooting it worth a sh*t, plus running into FTF and magazine problems. <fume> I just shoot the Glock better. Will that change? Maybe, but already, even without the new LTD gun, there's no joy in the switch. The thing is, I'm not one of these folks that has 20 different Open guns, or has to buy the latest "sight-zapper" technology, or whatever. I try to sell whatever I'm not using to fund the current purchase. But it's getting ridiculous -- need to pick a platform and stay with it.
  25. Things like "Junior" and "Female" reflect physical categories of contestants and not career choices. I can understand the distinction. Otherwise...Would, for example, Blackwater Security contractors get to shoot as MIL? Or, why LEO and not First Responders, or fire-fighters?
