  1. If I have a barrel chambered for .38 Super, will .38SC headspace correctly? Would the smaller rim cause other issues with with supporting the case? The reason I ask, I have used Briley barrels for a long time and I am looking to order a barrel from them for a new build. They do not offer a .38SC chamber. But I was thinking that since both cartridges headspace on the case mouth and not the rim it could work. It would also give me a little flexibility in brass. Any thoughts?
  2. I have long laid claim to the three stupidest sports injuries of all time: Broke three ribs playing golf. (my buddy was driving the cart, pulled up next to my ball and just as I was stepping off he spots his ball and floors it.) Lesson: I drive the cart. No ifs, ands or buts. (BTW: That was the 15th hole. I finished the round and parred the 18th.) Broke my right leg playing Ping-Pong. (Jumped sideways to get a ball going of the edge of the table, foot slid and hit the wall. CRACK! ) Lesson: Make sure all sides of the table are at least 6 feet from any obstructions or obstacles. Broke my collar bone playing cards. (Not even gonna explain this one) Lesson: Never play Spoons with your SO's brother if he is a body builder.
  3. Our host proved many years ago that accuracy is the first consideration. Shoot only as fast as you can hit your target. With practice your speed will increase. But spraying rounds as fast as you can and trying to practice your way to better accuracy is never gonna work. When you are practicing, pay close attention to your sight picture and where the gun is in your hands. Work on getting a consistent grip that puts the sights comfortably lined up in front of your eyes. Start slow and pay attention, then gradually increase your speed.

  5. Uh...I think he's talking about the front sight. My apologies. Somehow I missed the word front in his post. This should get you on track:
  6. Novak dovetail is .49" wide at the bottom. If you have a good set of precision calipers measure it.
  7. Usually just a spare recoil spring and a couple Shok-Buffs. When I had a bushing barrel i also kept a spare bushing and spring plug. Anything failing beyond that is not something I really want to fix at the range.
  8. Paul Kersey: You believe in Jesus? Stomper: Yes, I do. Paul Kersey: Well, you're gonna meet him. (Death Wish II)
  9. Armored car driver: Where'd you learn to shoot like that? Marlboro Man: I read a book.... Came with the gun. Marlboro: Squeeze the trigger, don't pull it, don't jerk it, don't yank it, it ain't your dick. Marlboro: Guns are meant to be shot Harley, not thrown! And one of my all time favorites: Marlboro: Harley, if you were shootin' for sh|+ you wouldn't get a whiff!

  11. A friend and I had a bet based on this old add on. Bet was over who could get the best fortune based on the "between the sheets" extension. When He got a fortune that said, "You are the greatest in the world." I was ready to concede. Then I got one that said, "You are the master of every situation." We decided to call it a draw. Then a few weeks later we were having lunch at a Chinese buffet and I got one that said, "Your health is important. Eat your vegetables." I showed it to him and said, "Great! Now I'm gonna spend a month looking for a quadriplegic."
  12. Maybe I'm confused on this issue. Are we talking about using a 6" barrel in a 5" slide and mounting the front sight on the barrel? If this is the case then it has been done before and is nothing really new. There were a few compensators available in the early 90s that had a front sight post on them. In fact that was what inspired me to drill and tap my Centaur Systems comp for a set screw centered on the top 1/16" behind the first port. The set screw prevented the comp from unscrewing itself from the barrel and became the front sight post, effectively increasing my sight radius by a little over an inch. As long as the barrel locks up consistently you should have no problem with accuracy.
  13. I think I would consider acid flux high tin solder before epoxy, but it would really depend on the application. Some pics of your barrel and a better description of how you intend to mill it would help.
  14. So, shoot your 9s and be happy. I'm going .38SC and I'll be happy.
  15. Nah. I just made an intelligent, informed decision. The 1911 was not designed to feed tapered cases. I'm reading on a couple different forums about people having trouble with 9mm feeding. (mostly nose dives on the feed ramp) I know it can be fixed with proper tuning of the mags and loads but why bother with all that when I can get better gas pressure and more reliable feeding from 38SC?
  16. After reading several discussions on a couple different forums I have decided not to compromise and just build two pistols. One single stack .45 for pins (or I may just keep using my old .45 and do a few upgrades) and The new Caspian will be .38 SC. Yeah it may be hard to get brass for initially but it doesn't take long to build up a good stash And with all the trouble I see people having with 9mm, I think the .38SC is overall the best option.

  19. My grandfather used to lose a cow or horse (or both, or more) every deer season. One year he took a bucket of yellow paint and painted "COW" on all his cows and "HORSE" on all his horses. At the end of deer season he hadn't lost a single animal. But his tractor was full of holes.

  23. It's ok. If it had been made of cheese, we'd have put a lot of dairy farmers out of work, eaten half of it by now and have half a dozen radical conservation groups trying to save it.
  24. If it helps.... I used to reload with a Lyman single stage press bolted to a 2x10 and C-clamped to the kitchen table. Perhaps not the ideal way of doing it, but it worked until I had space to dedicate to it.
  25. I was 6 yrs old that night. My parents let me stay up late to watch it. I remember it clearly even now. And I also remember going outside to look up at the moon and try to see them. And I still cannot fathom the conspiracy theorists that say it never happened. There is so much evidence that proves it and all you need is a good telescope.
