Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. What spare parts do you keep with you in your range bags?
  2. I blasted it at a friend's shop. Unfortunately he runs garnet and it cut my stippling down significantly. Time to do it again.
  3. Well I decided to add some texture to the front strap. I file stippled the recesses and punch stippled in between recesses. All was done with a 2oz soft face hammer. I will bead blast the front strap and possibly the entire gun. Stainless is too shiny for my taste
  4. well i was chomping at the bit to do something on the front strap. thought about hand checkering it, but everyone has checkering. i came across this and liked the idea. Ended up doing something similar
  5. I am laid up due to back surgery i had a few weeks ago. So to help pass the time I decided to build a CCO model 1911. I have no intention of competeing with the gun, it is going to be a nice winter carry gun. I used a remsport frame and slide. These are the guys that many custom shops have manufacture the house brand parts. I recieved my frame one week ago today. When i got it, the slide to frame fit was excellent. I had requested they leave it needing some fitting, but all it needed was polishing on the frame rails. I also had to remove some burrs that were left from the machinig processes, but it was nothing major. I also had to debur and chamfer the disconnector hole, but again that was a 30 second job. I am very happy with the product. Now i will say that they arn't the easiest people to get a hold of right now due to contracts and some personal problems. I will guarantee their products are the smae quality and siginificantly cheaper than buying something from brownells. If you are interested in getting something from them, message me and I will give you the contact info for the sales guy i dealt with. Now for the obligatory picture: And yes, i did make my own slide lapping tool. Even with buying a 3' length of the closest drill rod, it was less than half the cost of a marvel unit. I will hook you up with a short length to make your own if you want. Just message me. For the bushing, i used a sarco bushing as i had a inkling they would be extremely loose on the tolerances and fit most slides with minimal filing. I was right on that one.
  6. All those of you that have any decent amount of experience on a 650 know how piss poor of a design the ski jump primer catch is. I found a guy that makes a replacement for it that uses a bottle to capture it. I got mine in last week and I am very pleased with the fit, materials, and craftsmanship that goes into each. I talked to the guy that makes them and he handcrafts everyone of these. I could see Dillon changing to a similar system in the future, and think they should. ****I am in no way affiliated or being compensated for my promotion of this item. It is simply a good part and thought yall would like to see it if you have not.*** The link to his website is http://dillonupgrades.com/xl650missedprimerupgrade.html Here is mine installed. amd yes, I know it need to clean my press.
  7. it is a flat fee service. i think its about 200+shipping. but this could be for 1 pistol or multiple. I dont see why they price it like that, but im saving projects to ship at one time contact them for actual priceing. blacknitride.com
  8. If you arnt 100% sold on hard chrome look at black nitride from h&m metal processing. It is slick as snot and harder than diamonds. To clean my slide and frame all I have to do is wipe it off. My l10 gun has close to.5k rounds thru it and no finish wear at all. No holster wear, and I practice my draw a lot. Best part is it will increase barrel life and accuracy.
  9. I own one. I have seen a lot f New reloaders want to get it because it looks easier. I help a buddy out at his reloading shop when customers are debating between the 550 and 650, and tend to steer more towards the 550 because it is easier to operate due to the manual index Nd case feed. So my question is, for those of you that own a 650 do you load everything you shoot on it? I am not referring to precision rifle but plunking loads. I added a poll, to have something to show people.
  10. Ditch visualmill. Download HSMXpress from hsmworks. That is the best solidworks cam program, and the xpress version is free. My School uses visual mill to write for the HAAS so thats what i got. Ill check out HSMXpress though.
  11. Being an engineering student i was able to purchase SolidWorks for $100. And now that we have a brand new hass that needs some love im attempting to teach myself VisualMill plugin. It works really well, but i havent figured out how to select it to cut only one feature I.E sight doevtail.
  12. When you write your toolpaths do you do it manually or draw the part and use something like VisualMill?
  13. Black Nitride. I had an 45 finished in it and all i have to do to clean the frame is wipe it down. I shoot lead bullets so it gets cruddy after 2-300 rounds
  14. Id get the dark eagle mag. Im waiting on dan to send me a long action mag and he has been very cordial and communicative during the process.
  15. Im trying to find a Pocket Pro or pocket Pro 2. My only stopping point is finding a store that has them and takes paypal. Any one have any leads on where i can get one and still be able to pay with paypal?
