  1. The stock 2 has a straight barrel, just like the limited pro - just shorter. The Stock 1 has the bull conical barrel. It is not allowed in IDPA due to the full length dust cover.
  2. Top level trigger job is more than just polish. You can get 75% by yourself. The rest will require am experienced smith to work the sear and perhaps swap out a few disconnectors to get the shortest reset and crispest break. Jim at J & L is very familiar with this gun. Unless you are at a level where the stock gun is what is holding you back, ammo, live and dry fire will return more results. A professionally massaged trigger sure feels good though.
  3. Hitting an upright may indicate that you were shooting off center. Placing a target will help keep the bullet in line with the detectors and ensure reading. Shooting too high or too low over the sensors can screw up data collection.
  4. My daughter had a similar problem. I switched her to a steel gun (tanfoglio match), running 9 mm 147gr 3.4gr titegroup. You can run down to 3.2gr maybe even 3gr if PF is not an issue. Very soft. The other element is proper arm technique. Most kids tend to tuck their elbows and use too much strength fighting muzzle flip by locking their arms. If your boy keeps his elbows up, recoil will drive be the gun rearward and let him save some strength. Have fun.
  5. I have used 7625 for 9mm and 40sw. Very consistent chrono results at higher volume loads but very inconsistent when loaded light. The gun still operated but deviation of 50fps is not uncommon for light loads. For uspsa minor. This may be a problem if you load at 130 or less. At high load density the powder produces lots of gas and burns almost completely. This is why 7625 is most popular with Open shooters
  6. I purchased a few plastic storage pouches which have a rust inhibitor. The STK3 and its sibling are my training and match guns. They never spend more the a couple of days without dry fire or range time. The inly answe for me is probably chrome for the slide and ceracoat for the frame. Another option is a CZ. No gun is better than a poor service dpt. Still holding out hope that EAA comes through.
  7. My STK3 has been in the EAA service dpt for 2 weeks now. Sharon was very pleasant in setting up the return. The nice lady in the service dept is also very friendly -BUTTT. I can not get any information on the status of the gun. I am told that there is a man [they refer to him as "HE"] who is working on the repair. I can not speak with this person nor is there any information on the condition, nor the "repair" that "HE" is working on. Last call, I was told that the "rust" was removed and the gun cleaned. It is now being observed for a week, to see if it rusts again. This answer is baffling since the problem is - not supposed to rust in the first place. No mention of the pitting on the frame - service person has not entered any notes for the "repair". Spent $70 to overnight the gun to the and will pay another $20 to get it back. I love the gun but EAA may just make a seller out of me. Will probably never buy a blued Tanfoglio again.
  8. So, if the tactical rail on the newer Match frame was milled down that would be legal ?
  9. You can purchase a long slide conversion which comes with Super Sight. Conversion slide has flat finish. My S3 is currently back at Eaa for rusting issue. Never had this problem with the conversion slide. I have used the S3 slide on the Match frame and the 9mm conversion on the S3 frame.
  10. You can do a very good trigger job yourself and still be production legal. Converting to sa would knock the gun out of production class. My henning flat trigger is on the SA Match. I will be replacing the Stock trigger with an EG version (less curved) and it is production legal.
  11. One of the best parts to put into the Match is an EGW hard sear. OEM sear is case hardened and will deteriorate quickly if you grind any wear surfaces.
  12. I have a call into EAA. This may determine my future with this gun. Will update soon
  13. Having a greased frame is no a good idea on a competition gun. I'd have to degrease it twice a week to shoot
  14. Put it away after wiping it down after a match - in a cheap gun safe [not air tight]. Safe has several silica packs. My Match elite never had this problem and its slide looks to have the same finish.
  15. How much does it cost to refinish a pistol? Interestingly, the seemingly cheaper finish on the 9mm conversion - does not rust.
  16. Put away my STK III after a match [cleaned]. Two weeks later the outside had severe rusting. I am now forced to oil the frame every time I put it away - is this normal? I've never had a blued gun rust so quickly.
  17. Extreme 180gr plated 3.2gr Bullseye. Softer than 147gr over TiteGroup. For moving targets I would go to 9mm for the velocity advantage. No recoil advantage in using 40 past 850fps. You may also find that 147gr at 950fps has less drop at 35-50yd targets.
  18. The pre-travel screw controls the reset. If you set it too far out, you will not reset the trigger after the hammer falls. Take the slide off - cock the hammer - pull trigger and continue to hold - push down the trigger bar, then slowly release the trigger. If the pre-travel screw is too far out, trigger will not reset and thus will move without any resistance but will not drop the hammer.
  19. Why do you have to convert anything? Just start the stage cocked and locked - problem solved. I shoot mine that way when I am in the mood for limited. If your trigger job is good, both DA and SA should be good.
  20. I run Xtreme plated 180gr also. Try Bullseye - very nice recoil pulse. Easier to track than my 9mm titegroup loads.
  21. looks like the bevels on the slide are not equal, making the sight appear off center. low hits in rapid fire mean you are starting to peer over the front sight and focusing on the target.
  22. You forgot to work on the lower leg of the sear. If you remove a little material, it may provide enough clearance to prevent triggering when the safety is engaged.
