  1. The TSO, yes, I want. The 210- meh. I wasn't as impressed as I thought I would be.
  2. I learned the lesson about not touching other people's guns a LONG time ago. That said, I was on the other side of it at a steel challenge match last year. It was the first one I EVER shot (I have shot USPSA for the last few years, and 3 gun before that). It was my kid's first competition of any sort. And due to the easier and safer manipulation of a long gun, the amount of stages, and ammo costs, I decided we were BOTH shooting rimfire rifle. One of the guys I RO USPSA with was in my squad RO'ing with me and had his gun go down on the first stage. I talked him into trying out the rimfire rifle for the rest of the match (I was unsure of how much shooting I'd be doing, given it was my kid's first match and I wanted to babysit [turns out it was mostly unneccessary]). After the match, the loanee shook my hand vigorously and thanked me profusely. Said he hadn't actually enjoyed Steel Challenge in a long time, but he loved the rimfire rifle and shooting mine motivated him to get his put together. So as much as I think the old-timers like to mess with people and talk them into buying new guns, I also think a small part of it stokes their happiness.
  3. Thanks. I'll check them out. I also noticed TTI makes the appropriate height ones now. I ended up with a couple of M&P's as well and need fibers for one of them - and am debating milling the slide on one for CO... (and yes, I know, wrong forum...).
  4. It's a type 1 - I bent the terminals and went with the plate that applies a little more pressure on the battery - I can't remember who made this one.
  5. I hate to do that since I went with the orange / tritium front sight version. But yeah, it's an option.
  6. Went to shoot a match Sunday with my 34 MOS with an RMR (Carry Optics) and no dot (I'm assuming battery, but haven't looked at it yet). I shot that match with my backup irons, but boy, did that suck. They sort of cowitness at the bottom of the window, but when properly aligned, the bottom half of the front dot is obscured. I THINK what I was doing all match was "lollipopping" the dot, so shooting high. Does anyone have a suggestion for a better cowitness backup iron set for the 34 MOS with RMR? I believe the set I have is the Ameriglo GL511. I had a Vortex on there forever and never had an issue with no dot - kinda makes me want to dump the RMR...
  7. They're just fun matches (but I am a wee bit competitive). There's only three matches left in the series this year, but next year I'll get serious about getting some more extended chokes and truly patterning them. All I did this year was make sure that the one I was using shot to POA/POI. But I agree with you - I think I'm switching it out for the IC.
  8. I picked up a used Benelli M2 that had been worked on for 3 gun. It has the factory chokes, plus an extended LM (geez, now I'm wondering if it's IM). I left that choke in the gun for the last few matches, but with few exceptions, our local matches have shotgun targets at 25 yards or less. Knockdown steel, stationary clays, and sometimes pigeon flippers. I'm wondering if I should open up to IC?
  9. Check for a bur on the gas relief spring in the barrel. Both my 18" and 24" barrels scratched the crap out of the tube. I took a grinder to it and fixed the problem. If you want to have some real fun, take the spring out of the barrel! That's not really that much fun, but putting it back in is a blast!!! Hmmm... tempted to send it to Mossberg. This is caused by the spring assembly in the barrell not being centered perfectly. If the gun is hard to reassemble this is the likely cause. I used a large deep socket to center mine. I polished up the scratched and its fine. Assembly is now much easier. Did recentering the spring work by itself? I have it at a machinist buddy's to have him smooth the ends of that spring. My mag tube looks very similar to yours. It went south at a local match and i had to run it as a bolt gun - a bolt gun that rquired A LOT of force to open. I should have just DQ'd myself.
  10. This. I buggered up my mag tube and had to polish it. It's at a machinist buddy's to have the ends of the spring smoothed out. It turned my gun into a bolt action at a local match.
  11. I just picked up a used Gen 4 Glock 34 MOS that I'll mostly be using at the informal multi-gun competitions / shoots locally. I plan on running an RMR on it and likely swapping the sights out with suppressor height sights for cowitnessing. Who makes a holster that would work (clear the RMR, sight channel large enough for the suppressor sights, good enough retention for running and gunning, and preferably dropped / offset)?
  12. I LOVE Glocks. That being said, if I had a 2011, I wouldn't sell it to shoot a 34/35 instead. If you prefer 1911's / CZ's and you shoot better with them, why would you give that up?
  13. I'm a self-defense guy first and a "competitive" (used very loosely) shooter second. So I try to emulate my carry setup as much as practical - bullets out isn't very concealable, so I run bullets forward.
  14. Glock 34 or the XDM 5.25. Just be aware that if you start reloading you'll have the added expense of swapping out the barrel in the Glock (unless you're like several of my friends who just "chance it" and claim they don't have leading issues with the polygonal rifling...
  15. As has been said, call the match director to ask about round count. Double it. AND, while on the phone with them, mention you're new and ask about equipment. They will likely be able to help you out with suggestions or point you in the right direction as far as borrowing / trying some out. Granted, it was an informal one, but I shot my first match with a holster / pistol mags on my belt, but a chest rig for my AR mags and some belt / buttstock shotgun shell carriers looped into the shoulder straps. It was horrible, but for my first time out, it worked out ok and was "good enough" to get through the match.
  16. I agree with this, especially if you shoot a striker-fired gun.
  17. I usually carry my Glock 19 IWB. But I occasionally carry it OWB in a Raven with pancake wings mounted on the exterior of the holster, which really sucks it in tight. When I do IDPA (and it's super-informal where I shoot), I run that Raven, even though I could get away with something much less realistic. It's definitely faster than I am yet I'm able to maintain at least a modicum of continuity with my carry system.
  18. I have short-ish phalanges, so I have a hard time reaching the slide stop with my right (strong hand) thumb. Heck, I have to tweak my grip a little to reach the mag release. So I've taken to doing slide releases with my support (left) hand thumb. It "seems" quicker than either using my strong hand thumb or slingshotting, but I've never done it against a timer.
  19. Has anybody tried a Salient Glock trigger? I dry-fired one in an M&P at a gun show a few weeks ago and it was pretty nice. MUCH better than the APEX M&P triggers, IMO.
  20. I like the Vickers on the gen 3's. Good compromise between the factory extended "too long for some" release and the standard release.
  21. I have an Uncle Mike's cheap-o instructor style belt that I wear most of the time (not for competition) - the velcro is starting to get a little weak after 7+ years of wearing it pretty regularly. But as someone else said, it's taken a "set" that works for me but might not fit someone else correctly. So if it's a relatively new used belt, I'd say go for it. But if it's been worn a lot, you might have issues with sagging, etc.
  22. I was concerned about how cheap it was, but I've been using the Uncle Mike's instructor belt knock-off for... I guess it's been over 7 years on the same belt. The velcro is a little weak at this point, but the rigidity is still excellent. I was expecting the kydex liner to break down over time but it's still holding strong. The only thing is that it looks like a pistol belt to anyone who knows what they're looking at...
  23. Most gun shops have a "used holster bin". Dig through those and you might find something that will work for a while (usually cheap, too!). Or check the classified boards on the various forums - used holsters tend to sell for significantly less than what they go for new. Almost everyone has that drawer full of holsters that just didn't work for them and occasionally they get sold. And has also been suggested, there are lots of small, local kydex holster makers popping up.
  24. I shoot a Glock but like the XDMs. I can't quantify my issue with the S&W's, but there's just something about them I don't care for. That being said, I got to dryfire a CORE with a Salient trigger the other day... VERY NICE. As others have said, get the one that feels / shoots best to you. If it were me, I'd be looking at a 34/35 or the XDM 5.25.
