  1. The first answer is also the best answer - FiveTen (and every other climbing shoe manufacturer) uses a soft, high-friction rubber for their shoes. It has excellent "frictional" properties, much more so than really another outsole available. Definitely more "sticky" than any of Salomon's offerings. Just keep in mind that because the rubber is softer, it will also wear faster. Especially if you wear them daily walking around on concrete.
  2. Thanks for the warm welcome!
  3. Not reloading, unfortunately. Live in a tight 2 BR apartment - no space. And my wife HATES clutter. That said, we are currently house hunting and a reloading press is absolutely on the shopping list once we find a place with a garage (please God) and get settled in. Currently shooting a CZ SP01 Tactical. Thiiiiinking about selling it to buy a Shadow, but haven't decided to do it 100% yet.
  4. Are there actually costume matches? That's like Comic-con, but way more fun
  5. I joined the forums almost 3 years ago but have mostly been lurking. I figured it was high time I actually said hello. So hi! I've been competing in USPSA for about 4 years now, but at a VERY basic level. I just shoot 3-4 matches a year to keep on my toes. Its hard to find time. Too many hobbies! Hope to meet some of you on the range one day!
  6. I have a SP-01 Tactical that I've been using in USPSA Production for about ~4 years now. For a holster I've been using my Amadini (Ghost) Stinger. I like the draw 98% of the time, but because it hangs cantilevered below the belt, it can very rarely lift away from my leg and then the gun binds in the holster because it's no longer a perfectly vertical draw. Additionally, I'd like to start shooting 3 gun, and I know very little about it, but it seems to me that I would need a holster with slightly better retention. True or false? Can anyone recommend a holster that might fit these needs? Budget is $75-$100. I'm not a very serious competitor, so I'm not looking for top of the line race gear.
  7. I've got the P-01 and have been carrying it for ~2 years. It turned my Glock 19 into a camping-only gun. Love it. And it's a perfect complement my SP-01 Tactical that I shoot in USPSA. For a holster, I've got the Stealthgear Onyx. Haven't used another one of my holsters (Old Faithful and a Supertuck) since then.
  8. What makes the CGW sear better? Lighter, cleaner, sharper trigger break. It's a much higher quality sear over the stock sear.
  9. I really like the suggestion above by rhett45acp for using a single-bullet barney mag for making ready. I have a crappy ProMag that refuses to lock back on empty that will make a perfect single bullet barney mag.
  10. I just replaced those bolts on my holster as well. At my last match, I was walking quickly to get to the next stage and heard/felt a big THUD and looked down to see that my holster had fallen clean off my belt. Luckily, no damage to the gun or the holster, but 3 of 4 of the mini bolts had come completely undone and fallen off. I was lucky that I had one nut/bolt left to take to the hardware store to compare. I was able to purchase adequate, but not exact, replacements. The nuts specifically seem to be proprietary. They have a small sleeve that protrudes outwards which is designed to fit into the hole in the backing plate. I was stuck buying standard square nuts. The bolt length also appears to be non-standard. The store (a VERY well stocked local shop, puts Home Depot to shame) The only bolts available were either too short or too long. I obviously bought the longer ones but I had to wrap the bolt ends in duct tape to protect my hand. Otherwise they protrude a bit too close to my thumb when drawing and I picked up a couple nice deep scratches before wrapping them in tape. I can take a picture for you if you like. I can probably get the exact specs on the hardware as well. I'm out of town, but will be back on Friday.
  11. Do you have any info on any mid-week practice sessions that are held in Nashville? I am in Nashville 2 weeks of every month for work (Monday to Friday) and would love to get some trigger time on mini stages.
  12. Any of those would be fantastic (when it comes to gun rights at least) compared to IL. Each state has its own quirks of course, but you won't be disappointed by the gun culture. The competition culture might be different though. I suspect TX will have the best USPSA/IPSC match calendar, although that depends on what city you're near. One important thing to note - in TX, you can shoot outdoor matches 12 months a year. In Michigan there's no chance and Ohio is only slightly better. The winters are... pretty much just like in Canda.
  13. I spend Monday through Thursday in Nashville on alternating weeks for work. I shoot matches at home in CO on the weekends, but I'm looking to try and get some trigger time while I'm here in TN. I could always head down to The Armory and shoot statically on the line, but hoping for something a bit more dynamic. Is there anything going on?
  14. Most factory cases don't have any locking holes, then only way I can think to lock them would be using the included cheapo cable lock wrapped around the case handle. It *might* work but it's not guaranteed. Better not to risk it.
  15. Absolutely. Compete in Production with a CZ SP-01 Tactical and carry a CZ P-01. Both decocker DA/SA format.
  16. Anyone know of classes being offered in CO?
  17. Yup - Schmeky is David of CGW (at least, he is on the other forums)
  18. Anyone mind explaining what a "paster" is? I've been shooting USPSA and IDPA (only local matches though) for close to a year and have never come across the term as I can recall.
  19. NJ has a surprisingly good practical pistol community. We have multiple IDPA, USPSA, Steel Challenge, etc matches every month. You're more than welcome to bring your pistol across the border and join us for a match as well. To be compliant with our confusing laws: No magazines that hold 16 or more rounds. Period. No exceptions of any sort. 15 or less only. Keep the unloaded pistol, mags, and ammo secured in the trunk. It IS legal to have the mags loaded, but I personally don't risk it. A cop who doesn't know the law could ruin your day. The pistol case/pouch only HAS to be locked if you have an SUV or other vehicle that doesn't have a separate trunk. However, locking the pistol case is never a bad idea. Drive DIRECTLY to the match, then drive DIRECTLY home. In NJ, you are only allowed to have a pistol in the car when driving to/from your home/gunsmith/sanctioned match/range. The law allows for only "reasonable" deviations - but what is "reasonable" has never been tested in court. Therefore, to be safe, just don't deviate. Get gas before entering NJ. Don't drive like a dummy. If you don't get pulled over, you'll never have any problems. That's a pretty good primer. That covers most of the scenarious you could encounter. I'm in North Jersey myself or I would offer to bring you out to one of our local matches as well. There's a very strong contingent of South jersey shooters who are equally welcoming!
  20. Side note - I have a CZ here in NJ. 15 round ProMags feed fine, but don't have a last-round-hold-open. I have a whole bunch of 10 round factory mags for competing in Production USPSA and IDPA. I do carry out of state, but with a compact Glock, not my supremely heavy SP01 (which I had to swap out the grips to even make IDPA max weight), so having 15 rounders for the CZ doesn't really do me any good anyway.
  21. They have to be permanenty pinned and welded such that they can't be made into a 15 round magazine without significant work involving tools. That level of work almost always renders the magazines sealed so that they can't be opened and cleaned. Not really worth it. Pinned mags are a real pain in the ____ here in NJ.
  22. Is anybody manufacturing 15 round mags in 9mm for CZ any more (besides Pro Mag)? It seems that since MecGar came out with their 16/19 round magazines, the 15 rounders have been discontinued. As a NJ resident, it's a felony for me to possess magazines with space for that one extra cartridge, so for now, I'm stuck with 10 rounders. And that's lame. If I wanted only 10 rounds, I would have bought a 1911 I do have two ProMag magazines but they're garbage. No last-round-hold-open (which is worthless for practical shooting) on my SP-01 Tactical and they're made of flimsy, flexible metal, which simply isn't confidence insipiring. If anyone can direct me to anyone selling high quality 15 round mags, I'd be greatly appreciative. I'd also be happy to purchase them off forum members. (Note: While purchasing 16 rounders out of state and pinning them with a block+rivet is a possibility, I'd really prefer not to go that route. Pinned magazines are impossible to clean). Thanks!
