  1. I'm starting to think that way. Do you heat the grease when mixing the two?
  2. Just received my new Edge. In the hand book the STI guys say to use a good quality oil and not a grease. On the internals I assume. Why is this? I have a dealer with a good supply of Slide Glide and I was going to use it "every where" I'm about to strip it down and give it a good clean. Any advice or concerns on using Slide Glide on sears, hammers, mainspring etc?
  3. To me it is for sure. But you may be looking for a different set up. When I did my old Para up I was sponsored, so I put everything on it I wanted. Then it ended up a AUS$45000 gun. I'm just trying to show the difference, and maybe why you are not seeing many Paras out and about. It's not that I dislike em, they just end up dearer when properly set up for competition.
  4. Ok, I'll list some features you get standard with an Edge. Now I'm just talkin about IPSC here. Hand fitted bull barrel, ambi extended saftie, lowered ejection port, bomar style sights, mag well, match grade hammer, tool steel internals, checkered front strap and main spring, high ride beaver tail, front and rear cocking serrations, all made out of bar stock and hand fitted and laped. I got mine here hard chromed with two mags for AUS$2900. I can't buy all the bits and build one for that price. And mine shoots 14mm five shot groups off a rest at 7 yards and sub 2" groups at 25 yards free hand.
  5. I had a Para back in the early 90's. It was ok, I shot average A grade with it. I paid Aus$1500 and spent about $3000 on it. But now days it's eaiser to buy a stock Sti Edge and go compete straight out of the box. Internals are way better, lock up and fit is nice and tight. It comes down to $$ I guess. And what you wanna shoot, and how you want the gun set up.
  6. Sometimes my wife surprises me as well! I know the feeling. Congrats.
  7. I like my gun to slide lock, I reckon it helps in the "problem solving" department when running a course. But I too prefer to reload before slide lock. But when it does happen I'll just use my strong hand thumb.
  8. I only crimp enough to knock the bell out. And I don't confess to know anything about .40 cal. But I do know most damage is done when you seat and crimp in the one die. Usually the crimp will start before the pill is seated, which can peel a layer off.My .38 Super projectiles have a light ring around them when pulled. Hope this helps.
  9. I come from an open gun background IPSC. Now I'm shooting Standard and find a fiber distracting. I'm 45, and find a black front post fine, for both speed and accuracy. With a fiber I either shoot over the top of everything or notice it "wash" targets out.
  10. I really like the 5.11 Tdu pants
  11. Great service! I agree. I too believe this new insert will make a good holster even better. If somewhat dearer.
  12. Steve, you may be thinking of the ADI factory. They had a little "Whoops" in an Automated part of their plant. We have had a shortage of AP50, AP70, AP100 and AS30n all year. For awhile a lot of us thought you guys were taking it all.
  13. Thanks mate, I'll just order a new insert.
  14. Hi mate, another Aussie here. This is the best forum.
  15. How good is the retention in the new magnetic holsters. Now that the adjustment screw is gone? How does the gun feel coming out of the holster I mean? I think it's a great idea. That clear "click" as your gun goes in is a bit of piece of mind.
  16. I shoot IPSC Standard and find I can get my mags closer together with bullets out. I brought DAA Racemaster pouches just for this reason, and because of the equipment rule in standard. However my fourth mag way at the back is canted really forward and in the bullet forward position. I find this is the position that my hand naturally falls way behind my back.
  17. Hi Knp, I'm in Australia as well. I assume your talking about "speed shooters international " so they will send a guide rod to Australia no worries? Or do we need a heap of paperwork?
  18. Pull the sprin out of the good mag and use it as a guide for the bad ones. Does the gun fail to feed? Takes a little tap to get it into battery? If the good spring is longer take a coil off the bad spring and re- profile the end. It may just be a tension issue. Don't stretch the bad spring if it is shorter. And check the spring thickness, they may be a bit thicker. I've brought 6 STI mags, 3 new ones and 3 of the older type. The older ones F/F nearly every round, the new mags are fine. And this is what I've done with my gunsmiths advice.
  19. Late into this, sorry. I overlap at the front being Standard. But make sure they are opposite. So when I take my rig off it doesn't undo my inner belt
  20. I was a Safariland man for 12 years. Now going to DAA Racemaster. Broke a few tension screws on the Safariland over the years. Like the idea of a full aluminium holster, and nothing going up my barrel when I re holster
  21. The best forum post I've ever read. Thank you sir. The windshield thing, I've done for years. Just didn't tell anyone. You absolutely blew me away. Also, try doing this in a mirror. Using your head as a target. And see how you go from double target to double front sight. Again, great post
