  1. I agree with airborne101, the AP load 2's release the shells much easier and I can grab them faster as I am not as worried about pulling them out a certain way or at a specific angle like some of the others. The downside to that is that they aren't as secure for going prone etc... but I haven't run across a situation where that has been necessary, yet. I have the Taccom new 8up qualoads and they require a definite technique to pull the shells out ( top first etc...) but are much more secure at holding the shells. I also have an older Otto vest and you definitely have to be deliberate when grabbing the shells and pull a lot harder but you get used to the different techniques. As far as load 2, I can load the fastest with the AP's but if I can ever get the quaload's down I don't think you can beat a really fast quad load - but the fumble factor definitely goes up -
  2. +1 on the carbon arms versa tube, worth every penny -
  3. You're right the Blade tech system works also, I have been trying it with tekloks and it is too hard ( IMO ) to quickly switch all the different configurations I want to use. I also don't like having to take my belt off to switch my tekloks as I have put Velcro on them to make them hold more firmly on the belt. I like tekloks, they work fine, but once I started playing with the different loading techniques I quickly realized the limitations of using the tekloks and am switching to ELS. You can get by with anything, it just becomes much easier to re-configure with the ELS or similar set up.
  4. I agree that learning and practicing as many ways as possible is the smart way to go about it, you can never have too many options to go to for all the different stages and scenarios you may face. You might as well invest in an ELS system though as it is the only way you can easily switch back and forth between all the different options for caddies. I started off loading traditional weak hand, then went to load 2, now practicing quads. Traditional weak hand out of regular caddies is by far the hardest but is useful in many situations so I keep practicing it.
  5. I have had excellent results from the Wal Mart Federal bulk packs, have shot thousands of rounds with no issues through my Versa Max. Had bad luck with the Winchester bulk from there though. For the price, the Federal 1-1/8, 7.5 shot, 3 dram Field and Target bulk packs can't be beat, for a little more money there are lots of good choices out there but hard to beat $26.00 / 100 on the Federals -
  6. optima hp - got mine from Carlson's ( through optics planet )
  7. From what I have seen on here and in person, the vent rib is off on the majority of them. Some have issues with it, some don't. When someone told me about it I checked mine and sure enough it was off but my poa/ poi is great so I just left it. Mine isn't enough to affect aiming etc... but when I look hard I can see it is off ( vent rib not perfectly true to barrel )
  8. I had no issues shooting my versa tactical totally stock but then the forked lifter bit me a few times and I sent it to Benny Hill and had the loading port opened, bolt lightened, extractor mod done and the welded lifter added and it is amazing now. I added a carbon arms versa tube with the +2 cap and a Matchsaverz and I think it is done now. IMO it is the softest shooting, easiest loading shotgun I have ever tried and it shoots anything I run through it, wal mart bulk federal, Winchester, anything. It is a little heavier than some others but that also helps with the recoil. The only malfunctions I have ever had with any ammo was when I was shooting through a barrel ( on edge with the bottom cut out ) and the ejected shell hit the side of the barrel and bounced back and stuck in the action. I have literally thousands of rounds through it too. Can't say enough good things about it - but other than the lifter you could shoot it stock and still be fine-
  9. I really like my S&W M&P 15, fit and finish is good for the price, it has been very reliable, trigger was so so stock so I put a AR Gold in it and it is really nice now. Mine had the high cocking line where the hammer would not reset after firing so I had to go with the taller 308 hammer and it fixed the problem great.
  10. I run the PRP sandpaper laser cut grips on my 3 gun 5.25 rig with the operator magwell but I have the Talon sandpaper ones on my production 5.25. The PRP ones look a lot nicer but both drastically improve your grip on the gun ( the Talon ones just go over all the bumps etc... on the grip, the laser cut ones fit in between but still offer great traction ) . I believe PRP offered some colors but I am not 100% sure on that.
  11. +1 for Powder River, excellent triggers, a must for the XDM 5.25. Very good customer service also -
  12. I can't find one listed specifically for the Beretta, did you order the one for the Benelli M1-M2?
  13. Thanks for the info, will do that -
  14. I just put a +5 Nordic tube on my 24" also and started with 11" of spring and it seems fine for loading. I can get 10 in the tube no problem so I was hesitant to go any shorter to avoid any feed issues etc... My issue is when I went to put my Nordic clamp on, it wanted to put pressure on the barrel as the tube and barrel are very close to inline but not exactly. I learned that with my versa max, the clamp really threw off slug accuracy and I was told by Benny Hill not to run the clamp on the versa. My question is, any other way to get a sling mount for the 1301 without using a barrel clamp ? Any help would be greatly appreciated -
  15. I have to agree with KentG on this one, and not just because I am irritated about the status of my pistol either, the only way to express our displeasure with the handling of this recall is to not patronize companies that put their legal priorities etc... above the customers. Let's keep in mind that without us as customers buying their products they would not even be in business. Some large companies tend to lose sight of that fact or choose to ignore it because they feel as if a certain number of angry customers are worth the alternative of legal ramifications or looking stupid for putting out an inferior product. I also want to clarify that I have a total of 4 springfield guns and have been very happy with the quality, performance etc... that I have gotten from them. That, however, does not excuse how they as a company have chosen to fix this problem. If they put their customers satisfaction on a higher priority, it would not take 4 months to resolve the issue. I spoke to Springfield and while they were certainly not rude about it, they made it clear that this was the best they were going to do and other than " sorry " offered no other solution. I also did a little more research and found out a little more about the actual problem and it CLEARLY is a design and manufacturing issue that should have been caught well before this gun ever made it into the hands of a customer. Now everyone is entitled to make a mistake, but how you choose to fix your mistake is what you should be judged by, and in my opinion they failed miserably and we as customers are now paying for it. Therefore I too will choose not to support a company that does not put their customers needs above their own, you are entitled to your own opinion but they as a company will continue to business this way unless the customers make a point of NOT putting up with it -
  16. Yeah, wish I waited also, probably wouldn't want to sell all my Springfields like I do now!!! For a follow up, I just got off the phone with Springfield and they said that they were overwhelmed by the number of pistols sent in initially, they have added staff, running 3 shifts etc... etc... but by the way, it will be END OF JANUARY before you will see yours ( mine was received 1st week in OCT. ) so apparently a 4 month turnaround is adequate in their eyes. If I ever get it back it will probably be in the classifieds the next day as I will have purchased another carry gun by then -
  17. Yeah I just got the friendly little weekly e-mail again today. " Due to some unforeseen importation delays caused by the govt. shutdown, we are going to have to extend delivery times by 2 weeks plus " . It just gets better everyday!!! That means that they will have had my pistol for 4 MONTHS to fix their stupid issue that I never had a problem with in the first place. Now I know the people who have already gotten theirs back don't think it is bad at all. I am getting fed up with this bullsh#t and will probably have to buy another carry gun before I ever get my piece of sh#t XDs back. If Springfield REALLY gave a crap don't you think they could resolve the problem in less than 4 MONTHS!!!!! AND I HAVE AND DO RUN A COMPANY!! Needless to say I won't be following their business model on how to deal with situations like this -
  18. I think Springfield really dropped the ball on this one. I understand the " we better cover our asses" mentality that corporations have to have with all of the sue happy people out there, but to not be up front right away about what was really going on just to get everyone to send their gun in, that's what did it for me. I am probably not going to sell all the Springfields I have just because of this, but it will make me think twice before I buy another one. They definitely could have handled it better and will lose a fair amount of business because of it IMO.
  19. Had mine for a year now, thousands of rounds through it and never had any type of malfunction, most reliable gun I have ever owned.
  20. I really like the comp-tac's also, for my 5.25 I am running a international ( dropped and offset ) comp-tac and the retention is excellent, never gonna fall out running etc.... The pistol also comes out nicely though without to much effort on the draw stroke and surprisingly it isn't marking up my gun at all -
  21. Has anyone heard anything about release dates on the 3 gun edition versa max? Will it be in 2013 even ?
  22. Yes I see your point that they are all a tubing to begin with, I guess I meant maybe the wall thicknesses are different depending on where you purchase the tubing. Mine is black and pretty thick wall but I'm sure it was just a heavy tubing to start with. So maybe the " homemade " analogy wasn't the best to use - but I would guess that wall thicknesses would vary from different types of pex and different manufacturers as some may be more flexible, some more rigid etc...
  23. Had PRP put an ultimate match trigger in my 5.25, absolutely loved it but after 300 rounds or so it started not resetting. Talked to Daniel and they had me send it in on their dime ( overnight fedex ) they said it had a burr on the trigger bar, they fixed it up, got it back in 2 days, no charge and it works awesome! Had him set it at about 2.5# and I love it. Then I bought another 5.25 that already had a RRA trigger kit in it and while it is 100 times better than the stock trigger, it is not as nice as the PRP ultimate match trigger.
  24. I have ( 2 ) different 5.25 XDM's and they both will release if you seat a mag in hard enough, didn't seem to do it when they were newer but they both have plenty of rounds through them and I noticed it started happening on both of them. Both have trigger kits, one has stock recoil spring one has stiffer.
  25. I still have never had an issue with mine, been using it all summer, and I made sure to mount it far enough forward to never be an issue with the bolt handle. As for the tension issues some are having, it seems to be more on the homemade pex ones, because my original matchsaverz is so tight I can hardly get the round into it. I don't leave rounds in it when not in use but I think it would take awhile to wear this thing out. I did bolt in on and used Velcro also and it is not going anywhere. One of the best add-ons I have put on my gun IMHO, but I can see where if installed poorly etc... it could cause an issue -
