Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. If you decide to target LE as your market, remember that we generally have our own in-house instructors for most things, but occasionally "real experts" are brought in for "train the trainer" stuff and/ or to train tac guys. For instance, my agency has about a dozen instructors in the cadre, but we have Frank Proctor come in quarterly to teach/ instruct for the tac team. I am one of our instructors, and I can tell you from experience, getting into some of the gun games will absolutely make you a better shooter, and instructor too. Good luck.

    GEN4 Beavertail

I'm glad to see that these are finally becoming available. Since I really like the naked Gen 4 frame, yet I am a horrific slide bite victim, I've been cutting the beavertail portion off of GFA's and epoxying them directly to the frame. Works for Gen 3's too.
  3. Welcome, from Shelby Co.
  4. Thanks for the suggestions guys! I'm going to shoot it a bit when I get it, but I know I've been bitten by borrowed guns before, so that will probably be a necessary modification for me.
  5. Shelby Co... Just south of B'ham. I do most of my shooting out at Steel City or either our range at the Sheriff's Office. Cool. I'm in the Huntsville area and shoot a Brock's Gap from time to time. Several Huntsville area shooters are pretty regular at Brock's Gap. Are you shooting in the Masters next month? To date, I've only shot the prac/ tac 2 gun matches. I plan on hitting the IPSC match next month also. I don't get to shoot the IDPA matches because they all seem to be on Thursday nights. Are there some weekend IDPA matches that I don't know about? I would love to get into te IDPA game...
  6. Thanks guys. I'll see if my local smith can handle the welded carrier, and I've got a handful or two of dummies already. I also just ordered a Choate shell caddy to get me started, but I am thinking real hard about the Carbon Arms load two set-up. I watched their video and it was impressive to say the least. I will be sure to post pics once I get it, along with a good range report. I'd like to say that I can put a case of Estate low brass through on day one, but I'll have to see how time and money play into that! Thanks for the help guys.

  8. I will completely unveil my newbness with this question, but is welding the carrier done simply to keep it from "biting" your thumb, or is there some other need behind it? I see that modification recommended for almost every competition shotgun out there, but I've never read why.
  9. I am a fairly experienced shooter, a fairly new competitive shooter, and an all out newb on multi-gun competitions. I just cashed in a certificate for a huge factory Remington discount on a Versa Max Tactical. I know that the Versa's are fairly new, but I am all ears as to what I will want/ need to do to really get her up and running, other than the obvious which is to shoot the heck of it. I should have it in hand in about a week. Thanks in advance for any suggestions and advice you guys can offer.
  10. Hello all. I've referenced this site time and time again, and I finally decided to join up as I have started shooting competitively a lot more lately. I shoot locally, where we have monthly 'Practical/ Tactical' 2 gun matches, and I also plan to start shooting some IPSC matches next month. I am a deputy sheriff, and I serve as a Firearms Instructor for my agency. I've found that shooting competitively is the best way going to improve my shooting, and gain knowledge to pass on to those who I train. Thanks to you all for a great site, I look forward to being an active participant.
