  1. It does look like a piece of a primer, but it definitely is not. The swage rod looks perfectly fine, just like when it was new. I think I may have the backup rod too tight. I usually turn it down until it is very snug and don't back it out any. To test them, I just use a spent primer.
  2. I'm having too much trouble setting this up correctly. I was going exactly by the instructions and turned down the die until it made contact, then slowly brought up the swager until I was able to seat a primer. Note, this is with military 5.56 brass. This is what the brass looks like when I was finally able to seat a primer. To me, it looks WAY over-swaged, but the primer does seat tightly without crushing.
  3. I had that issue, but it was with the crimp die. Wish I could help.
  4. I ordered mine from Sprskip on Thursday off ebay. Hopefully it ships out soon.
  5. I filed down 1 side although mine is already rounded pretty good. Just decapped 1K 45ACP and only 2x primers got pulled back in! Finally fixed! Thanks for the help everyone.
  6. Does yours look like a square or rounded? I made mine rounded.
  7. I must not be doing something right. I did the tip to roughly 45° and some RP primers still don't get punched out all the way (or get pulled back in)
  8. Ok, so it seems I just need to make more of an angle. I'll try it.
  9. I went ahead and gave the pin a slight bevel and polish with a dremel polishing stone. Still sticking primers. Mainly in Federal and Remington brass 45ACP. All other calibers have been fine with no modification. This is with a Lee Universal Decapping Die. Do I need to bevel it more? Polish more?
  10. Let me get this right. So file the pin so it has 1 flat edge to it? Basically making it not a circle but more like a half moon?
  11. I went from a LNL AP to a XL650 and the XL650 is a MUCH better made machine. You will be happy.
  12. This is a brand new pin I got from Lee. I had a few broken ones and they sent me new ones. The top side of the pin is slightly below flush. I had it a bit lower, but it gets pushed up when hitting the head of the brass. I'll try one of the other pins they sent later today.
  13. I'm running just a Lee Universal Decapping Die in station 1 of my Super 1050 just to punch out old primers and then stainless tumble them. Problem is that the heads on different 45ACP is different thickness, so when it reaches a thicker one, it pushes the pin to that height and once in a while it doesn't completely push the primer out jamming things up. When I catch them, I simply put them in my single stage with another Lee decapping die and they punch out easily. Anyone else have this issue? Are there any other decapping dies with longer pins? I just really like the Lee because it simple slides up if you hit a berdan primer.
  14. This is very odd. I got the parts from Dillon (Thanks!), but I am still having issues. The index rod/pawl in stopping about 1/8" - 1/4" short shown in the picture. The index roller is a little chewed up on the edges, but seems fine. The index rod does not look bent or stresses anywhere either. This is not just a part I want to buy either as it is $92 from Dillon which is ridiculous. I wrapped the brass index roller with maybe 10 revolutions of tape and seems to have fixed the issue, but this is extremely temporary. I am fresh out of ideas now and stuck with a broken press.
  15. All stations should be filled when adjusting dies. This is probably your issue. Also, if the brass is of different lengths, the bell will be more/less.
  16. my $0.02 - if the machine is 2 months old and shipped with the pawl in that condition, you shouldn't have to pay a dime for Dillon to replace it - they should send it out promptly and do so courteously. The 1050 is a $1700 machine, customers shouldn't have to pay out of pocket to cover poor QC nor should they have to put up with rude service. The machine is new in age, but I have used it some. I honestly don't think it is a QC issue, but something binding up. I greatly appreciate this gesture. This is the type of Dillon service I have been used to. I have owned a 650 for years and added a 1050 to the arsenal. Whenever I needed assistance with the 650, Dillon CS has always been great to me. Tim did say that they had no record of my direct purchase history which makes sense because I purchased it through Grafs which I explained. He told me to simply include a copy of my receipt when I sent in the shell plate. speaking only for myself as the owner of numerous dillon presses (650 and 1050 at the moment), this is the kind of professional courteous service that has earned Dillon an almost religious following here and abroad. I agree 100%
  17. The machine is only 2 months old and has processed a few thousand 223 cases with the 1200 trimmer. Good thing the parts were cheap, so I won't worry about it. Parts breaking etc is not an issue to me at all as these things happen with machinery, it's just the attitude shown on his part that bugs. If the same type of thing happens again the next time I have to call in I will definitely speak to a manager.
  18. Mine is crooked too. Doesn't affect anything. You can always add some washers like a few posts above.
  19. Wow, my experience with Dillon's customer service has been mixed to say the least and not very impressed. Thursday I spoke to an older gentleman at Dillon CS and He was very nice and helped me out. We discussed about how my 1050 didn't index fully and caused the swager to come up and bend my shellplate. He told me He would have a new shellplate with a return label so I could return my old one. He was also checking on something else for me and was supposed to call me back in 1 hour or so. After no phone call that day, I called back on Friday and spoke to Tim. Now my conversation with Tim went much differently. I was under the impression still that the shellplate would be shipped out on Tuesday (today) with the return label. I called again today to place an order for an extra index pawl so it can ship together and right off the bat He says "How's the autodrive working for you?" in a very sarcastic tone. I was like "autodrive? I wish I could afford one of those". He then says that there is no record of them going to ship me a shellplate and I would have to send mine in and then they can inspect it. Then possibly they might replace it, but if not I would have to buy another one at $73. I then proceed to order only the extra index pawls and he takes my info down. I can't pinpoint anything else specific, but this guy Tim is not meant for customer service. He speaks to you like you are an idiot while being sarcastic. When I spoke to him on Friday I thought He may just be having a bad day and let it go. Getting the same attitude from him today shows that He is simply not a pleasant person and should not be working the phones. I have read a couple other posts on various forums about Tim and his smartass attitude as well, so this is not a isolated event. So if you have to call Dillon CS, hope you do not get this guy.
  20. Calling them on Tuesday to get a couple extra ones. I thought that too at first, but I loosened it out and made no difference. The brass roller underneath just doesn't seem to be pushing it far enough over.
  21. I've had a couple of issues right off the bat. 1: The index pawl wouldn't return all the way (sometimes) causing the shellplate to not rotate. I fixed this by taking off a small amount off the top. 2: Now, the index pawl isn't pushing the shellplate enough to fully index. I can see on the index pawl that there is a gash on the edge where it contacts the shellplate when advancing it. I am thinking that the gash/groove that has been made is missing just enough metal to not fully index the shellplate. I played with the safety stop screw and it hasn't made a difference. Has anyone else had this issue?
  22. I know this is an old thread, but I had a squeak too after roughly 5k rounds. For me it was the toolhead guide rods that needed oiling.
  23. NM figured it out. COM is wired from the HOT wire from the wall wart and the blue wire goes to the NO. Me likey this counter!
